Just watched it, in my opinion it could be very well lipped. She used to be really good at lip synching back in the day. Now she jerks her jaw at pretty much any lipped note, so its easy to see.

its very rare though that Celine lip syncs!!!! you know Celine singing is her life :)
You are my hero Céline <3 I love so much and thank you for everything <3 <3 <3

Very interesting, but I don't like the way he talks about Celine, even tough he respects her very much, the apathetic way he talks about her doesn't give him a good image, in my opinion.

I so agree with you!!! even though he's the writer of my favorite song ever a new day has come, I hate the way he spoke about Celine!!!!!!! :teary:

Here is the Video

Not to get into another lipping debate again, but it's my opinion she is lipping in that performance.

Yea it looks as if she lipped it,but so what? There is no need for him to cry over that! She lipped it big deal. Its kind of understandable where it might have been her first English performance so she didnt want to mess it up. Yea its fraudulant but dude didnt have to start crying! There might a reason his songs were rejected for LMBTL . But geese dont need sound like a bitter man cuz of it. Its the music industry. He should be used to it now.

Not to bring this up but dude sounds as bad as Merriuknowwho!

I came across this new interview with Aldo Nova, who wrote (and produced a few) songs like: DREAMIN' OF YOU, HAVE A HEART, CAN'T FIGHT THE FEELING, SHADOW OF LOVE, A NEW DAY HAS COME,PARTOUT JE TE VOIS, TEN DAYS, YOU AND I, YOUR LIGHT.

He talks a bit about the start, though he is a big incorrect saying it goes back to 85, she was 13 and her helped produced her first French record "Incognito"... I dunno he comes off a confused at times and bit bitter about the music industry, but it's still good to her someone being critical about Celine's current (non) musical direction!

Biggest revelations:

- She didn't want to record ANDHC, Vito Luprano pushed her into doing so;

- Have a Heart at the Juno Awards 1988 was lipped, Aldo recorded the demo she performed, BUT it did get her an English deal right there on the spot;

- TC barely sold 2 million copies worldwide, which he also blames on a different current market;

- He doesn't really know what Celine is doing now, he didn't hear much of the new album;

- But the 1 song he heard was crap IHO;

- He sent in a few songs for the new album but they weren't used, tho they are better than the songs on LMBTL (according to him of course :P );

- He thinks Vito Luprano did a much better job at selecting songs and seeing opportunities than the current people in charge (Richard Delp (sp?);

- There is a relationship between them due to mutual respect

You can listen to the interview here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG34cBSTcag

From 32:30 to about 37:00

He sounds clearly bitter.

...and he needs to get his facts straight : ''Taking Chances'' sold 3.5 million copies worldwide not ''barely 2 million copies worldwide''

The parentheses include AC charts, dance charts, club play charts etc. The rest is based off of the hot 100 in various countries...

Top 20 in 20 countries (and 24 charts)

Top 10 in 14 countries (and 15 charts)

Top 5 in 8 countries (and 9 charts)

Top 3 in 6 countries (and 7 charts)

#1 in 1 country (and 2 charts, one being her record on the AC chart in the US when it was still something credible)

ANDHC was still a huge hit for Celine, especially coming back in 2002 on the brink of the music industry's popularity making a huge shift into rock and R&B.

The single hasn't even sold 1m worldwide... and it was commercially available.

Needless to say that I HIGHLY doubt the Juno performance was lipped. Sounded and SEEMED (cause I can tell when Celine is lipping based on her facial expressions) live to me.

It's interesting. .. this was the performance that David Foster saw that made him want to work with Celine. And I remember he said something like, "I was sure it was lipped because no one could sing that good live." And I was never sure if he *really* thought it was lipped or if he was just talking about how amazing Celine is (because he always praises her extravangantly). But I didn't get the sense at all that Aldo was criticizing her here for lipping it . . he was just matter-of-factly saying that he produced the track to which she lipped.

But, yeah, he does come off pretty bitter and unprofessional in this -- saying the song he heard from her new album was crap . . .

One interesting thing . .when he talks about how his money was mismanaged and he lost so much .. you hear a lot of stories like that in the music business, and it just makes you appreciate Rene all the more. Celine always trusted him completely, and he never betrayed that trust.

My gut tells me people like Aldo and Vito will be back once Rene is no longer Céline's manager. I have a feeling he has been the one responsible, either directly or indirectly, for the departure of many of Céline's longtime collaborators.

I disagree completely. Rene is well-known for his loyalty -- he sticks with people for a long, long time. Even just looking at their band and crew and immediate team -- largely unchanged for 25 years. The way he's stuck with Julie Snyder and her company forever. You can even see in the credits . . .he's used the same lawyer forever (Jamie Young); He'd had Andre Delambre, a friend of his, as his main accountant from about 1983 until Andre got sick ca. 2003 (he was the CFO of Feeling, I think). David Foster always talks about how loyal Celine and Rene are, and how they never forget people who helped them at the beginning. You even see it in the way people pop back, years later . . . Christopher Neil coming back in 2007 on Taking Chances after not having worked with them since TCOML; James Horner, who wanted Celine to sing Dreams to Dream for Fievel Goes West in 1991, but the record company or movie producers wanted Linda Ronstadt . . and then Rene gave Horner a chance with MHWGO in 1997 . . the way Diane Warren popped back on LMBTL after an absence of 13 years . . I think these things are possible because Rene maintains good relationships with people.

Anyway, Vito was laid off by the record company . . Rene had nothing to do with it, and I seem to recall a newspaper article where he indicated being upset by it -- or at least, that he didn't know anyone at Sony Canada anymore.

I didn't mean it to be an attack -- I just couldn't understand where that feeling would come from. I also feel like there's a general tendency on here (not talking about you in particular, but just a general tendency) for people to blame Rene when there's something they don't like about Celine's career. And I don't think that's fair. I think Rene is wonderful (a complex person, but wonderful, and I think his loyalty is one of his great qualities), so every now and then I feel the need to write a defense of Rene. :flowers:

I apologize for my snarky and sarcastic "Defensive much?" retort. I just tend to get a general impression on here that if anyone, anywhere says anything remotely critical or questioning of Celine or Rene's choices, they are labeled horrible people who "don't get it" and aren't "true fans".

With that said, after having listened to Aldo's interview, I didn't find him to be all that critical. He may have come across a bit arrogant and/or narcissistic, but I wouldn't say he said anything outlandishly negative about Celine. In fact, I tend to agree with his comments about Celine and Team's artistic choices as of late. I do believe LMBTL (album) would have benefited greatly from his work. That's not to say I find LMBTL (album) to be garbage. In fact, some of my favorite Celine songs ("Somebody Loves Somebody" and "Unfinished Songs") are on it! I just find too much of the album to be lacking "something". Something different, I believe, Aldo could have brought to the project. "Your Light" was years ahead of its time when it found its way onto the international pressings of FIY. It would be a few years until Shania Twain would start getting critical acclaim for songs which had a similar sound and tone to that of "Your Light."

Going back to the Rene comment I made earlier, my feeling is that Rene can be too controlling at times. Not as bad as Phil Spector, mind you, but still "hyper-controlling", in my eyes. This, to me, could be the reason some collaborators may have bailed over the years. I still find it sad that Celine had to fight tooth and nail to have "The Reason" included in HER own darn show in Vegas. I find it artistically sad that Rene, in a way, slapped her down for even considering "My Heart Will Go On" as the show's opener. These are two examples for why I believe Rene could be the one to blame, either directly or indirectly, for people bailing on Celine and not working with her ever again, or not until over a decade later.

That's my two cents.

I understand where you're coming from now. . that you believe people find Rene too controlling and choose not to work with him. . I thought you were saying that he was the one who decides to move away from old collaborators, which I don't think is true. But I guess I still see it differently . . . Rene likes power, for sure, but he still seems to know how to maintain good relationships with people and treat them well. I don't know that Celine had to "fight tooth and nail" for The Reason . . . they had said that the whole team (not just Rene) thought it was too "rock" for this particular show -- and I kind of see where they're coming from for this type of classic, evening gown show (though I think The Reason brings great energy to the show) -- and, ultimately, she got to do the song she wanted. Rene also gives her full credit for ideas they all thought were great - like the curtain drop during Open Arms.

Yeah I have to apologize for this post. Sorry!

1. I did not listen to the interview before saying what I did.

2. I shouldn't have said he was a cry baby of some sorts, and compare him to the other dude that shall remain nameless.

Yeah he sounded a little bitter because about the way things went, and that his music was not chosen for this album. Tho he says he and her today are in separate ways. He believes that the respect between them is still there but thats just it. About the lipsynching HAH at the Juno's he said "that they lipsynched over there and so she did" I think he might have been referring to the award show in general and not just only Celine. I also heard what he said about Taking Chances did not sell below 3 mill so.....he was right the industry has changed and I feel bad that he was played terribly by his management. I don't think he dislikes her its just he just wants to distance himself from the music industry.

So then it made top 20's from majority of air play. That's pretty impressive on it's own.

The performance that impressed David Foster was actually at some kind of showcase or promotional event that Sony Canada was holding. He always told the story about how he saw her performing under some tent and how he was blown away by it ;-)

"You And I" really is a great song. Is it Celine's finest? No, but not everything has to be of "My Heart Will Go On" or "The Power Of Love" status. I wish she would give the song more attention than she has. I still remember on more than one occasion walking through Downtown Disney at Disneyland hearing the song being played over the speakers! I LOVED IT! It just goes to show the song had/still has the potential to make a great impact.

The performance that impressed David Foster was actually at some kind of showcase or promotional event that Sony Canada was holding. He always told the story about how he saw her performing under some tent and how he was blown away by it ;-)

I think that what happened is that Carol Reynolds, who worked for the CBC and knew Celine, sent David a tape of her performance of Have a Heart at the Juno's. He was so impressed by the tape that he flew to Quebec to see her sing live. It so happened that the only day David could make the flight was when she was singing in the tent.

The line about thinking she was lip-syncing is from David's own biography here: http://books.google.com/books?id=I7XuxKnoyq8C&pg=RA1-PT72&lpg=RA1-PT72&dq=david+foster+celine+dion+tape+sing+that+good+lip&source=bl&ots=yLCjXblHxA&sig=l9oU29xaowCOEPRssybONIQGEJc&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Jp2OU8OvG-rSsAS0_ICgCQ&ved=0CDoQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=david%20foster%20celine%20dion%20tape%20sing%20that%20good%20lip&f=false

(He's wrong, of course, about it being a singing competition -Celine's own biography says it was Have a Heart from the Junos. (p. 152 of My Story, My Dream). And, according to MSMD, the tent was for a group of vacationers at Sainte-Agathe in the Laurentides. (And, yes, I spend way too much time reading and re-reading biographies.)

Or it peaked high and then quickly fell off the charts. :P Anyway, if you read again I never said the song is a flop. I said it is not among her big hits, because it's not...!
