Interview with Aldo Nova (June 1st 2014)

I came across this new interview with Aldo Nova, who wrote (and produced a few) songs like: DREAMIN' OF YOU, HAVE A HEART, CAN'T FIGHT THE FEELING, SHADOW OF LOVE, A NEW DAY HAS COME,PARTOUT JE TE VOIS, TEN DAYS, YOU AND I, YOUR LIGHT.

 

He talks a bit about the start, though he is a big incorrect saying it goes back to 85, she was 13 and her helped produced her first French record "Incognito"... I dunno he comes off a confused at times and bit bitter about the music industry, but it's still good to her someone being critical about Celine's current (non) musical direction!

 

Biggest revelations:

 

- She didn't want to record ANDHC, Vito Luprano pushed her into doing so;

- Have a Heart at the Juno Awards 1988 was lipped, Aldo recorded the demo she performed, BUT it did get her an English deal right there on the spot;

- TC barely sold 2 million copies worldwide, which he also blames on a different current market;

- He doesn't really know what Celine is doing now, he didn't hear much of the new album;

- But the 1 song he heard was crap IHO;

- He sent in a few songs for the new album but they weren't used, tho they are better than the songs on LMBTL (according to him of course );

- He thinks Vito Luprano did a much better job at selecting songs and seeing opportunities than the current people in charge (Richard Delp (sp?);

- There is a relationship between them due to mutual respect

He doesn't agree with her new direction since 2003 i think. A lot of fans here will agree with him loll

 

He definitely didn't take the rejection of his 3 songs for LMBTL very well....

 

Ishhh Might have put a foot into his mouth. I don't think Rene will like it.

 

Not very humble, but then.... He did wrote AMAZING songs. CFTF is my favorite of Taking Chance. YL!! ANDHC!! Etc

 

It is nice to see that he is not a suck up too...

Very interesting, but I don't like the way he talks about Celine, even tough he respects her very much, the apathetic way he talks about her doesn't give him a good image, in my opinion.

TC sold 3 and half million. THe song he heard is Overjoyed. No way that ANDHC wasn't wanted. Also, I disagree about Vito's song choices being much better. Vito chose Rain tax over Stand by your side for ex. A big mistake and SBYS would fit more in ANDHC. At least her current chooser didn't put any wierd songs in TC and LMBTL. But he would definetly take out covers from LMBTL and tell Celine to record few new songs. I actually like Aldo's songs. Celine actually took chances with them.and critics were satisfied. I want him back. I want the Celine from Incognito and Unison eras. With songs like My Heart is Refusing Me by Loreen and ballads like WDMHBN. Not another Prayer or Goodbye. Please.

I actually don't think he sounds bitter, from his perspective, it is what it is, business took over and changed. I think he may sound a bit bitter but more so on who's handling the conception of the album, not really Celine. The only time he said something negative was when he said Celine didn't really want to do the song but Vito Luprano convinced her to. Maybe also when he said he didn't know or hear the album and then he heard one song and it was crap. I think that was coming from a production standpoint, and we all know it's probably Incredible. The production value of that song is so mediocre and almost amateur in my opinion, and based on the Aldo Nova songs, he's all about layering and intricate details. I mean he is kinda right about Richard Doelp. I miss seeing Vito Luprano as an executive producer.

Luke, ANDHC, was huge when it came out, it was her come back single. then it got even more famous b/c she used that song for the name of her show for 5 years, and it was the album title track.

 

Neddo, how do you know Overjoyed was the song he heard that sounded like crap to him?

He didnt seem to care of her new album and heard one song, probably from the radio, and that would only be Incredible...

Why would he say that Have a Heart was lipped at the Juno Awards!?? I doubt this very much... it was her very beginning in English, and I don't think she would have risked it!!

The parentheses include AC charts, dance charts, club play charts etc. The rest is based off of the hot 100 in various countries...

 

Top 20 in 20 countries (and 24 charts)

Top 10 in 14 countries (and 15 charts)

Top 5 in 8 countries (and 9 charts)

Top 3 in 6 countries (and 7 charts)

#1 in 1 country (and 2 charts, one being her record on the AC chart in the US when it was still something credible)

 

ANDHC was still a huge hit for Celine, especially coming back in 2002 on the brink of the music industry's popularity making a huge shift into rock and R&B.

Yes you are right! The lack of money, sex or having your panties in a wad will make you bitter!

Yeah, just watched it also, and there's something too theatrical in her expressions (especially with her vibrato)... well I feel it's very possible it has been lipped.
