banananas Posted July 23, 2014 at 03:19 PM Posted July 23, 2014 at 03:19 PM Is anyone familiar with kissthisguy.com? There's a Celine one, Surprise, surprise, that goes "If I touched myself I could've saved you the hell". How about "far across the distance and spaceships between us"? 2 Quote
NicoNV Posted July 24, 2014 at 02:23 AM Posted July 24, 2014 at 02:23 AM Is anyone familiar with kissthisguy.com? There's a Celine one, Surprise, surprise, that goes "If I touched myself I could've saved you the hell". How about "far across the distance and spaceships between us"? I hadn't heard of that website before. But, as for "Surprise Surprise" the first time I heard it thought she said "if I tortured (or torture) my self I could've saved you the hell." It took a second to realize she said "if I told you myself..." that made much more sense 1 Quote
flutefreak Posted July 24, 2014 at 03:11 AM Posted July 24, 2014 at 03:11 AM I thought it was tortured myself too! I still hear that actually... 1 Quote

SantiagoColorado Posted July 27, 2014 at 02:01 AM Posted July 27, 2014 at 02:01 AM I think this is already said but... what about My Heart Will Go On (Las Vegas 2007 version)? " Near, far, wherever you are... I believe that the hot dogs go on" Quote
SantiagoColorado Posted July 27, 2014 at 02:11 AM Posted July 27, 2014 at 02:11 AM I think I may have the first French to English cross-over. When she sings, Les Temps qui Compte, I honestly thought she said, the donkey cong. I am not kidding you people. And when she sings "contre nature" I thought she was saying, "born to love you." I know, I'm dumb. Born to love you... great idea for an english version!!!!! 1 Quote
sfbaysinger Posted July 28, 2014 at 03:50 PM Posted July 28, 2014 at 03:50 PM Awww thanks, I think so too. Okay, I thought of another one. First off, I used to think it was called "The Meaning" as opposed to what it really is. The whole second verse confuses me. I used to think it was, people run from sun to sun, caught in their lives ever flowing. I think it's people run from side to side, caught in their lives ebb and flowing. I could be wrong. Then, once we've gone, life goes still it's gone. Huh? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that song, but still. 1 Quote L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle!

Leah-M_ILoveCeline5 Posted August 5, 2014 at 03:35 AM Posted August 5, 2014 at 03:35 AM From ANDHC during the chorus I used to think she said "Let it fill my soul let it drown my fears" but instead she says "let fill my soul and drown my fears" haha I love this song and from ABYG the 1st few times I heard it I thought she said "you'll always be the first one in my grass" and "its a bitter world" when she actually said "You'll always be the 1st one in my prayers" and "its a better world" (which makes a whole lot more sense) lol haha I love this song and I love you Celine:D 1 Quote You are my hero Céline <3 I love so much and thank you for everything <3 <3 <3

heartssong Posted August 28, 2014 at 07:22 AM Posted August 28, 2014 at 07:22 AM Haha this is hilarious! I made the same mistake with Live. When I was a kid I used to hear this line in I'm Alive . "Fill me with love, made me a woman and catch the love" which was pointless since she's saying "Made me a woman on clouds above". I acually still hear it "lousy love" in IACBTMN. lol Lol. I sang the lyrics "lowsy love" in the car a couple of days ago. I have never been sure of that part of the song. Glad that was cleared up in this thread! I wonder why it is difficult to understand some of her lyrics? Quote Celine: vocal perfection at its best.
Caledor Posted August 28, 2014 at 10:17 AM Posted August 28, 2014 at 10:17 AM I remember when the AND LILV album came out, my best friend (she is French and English is not her cup of tea...) asked me "why does she say 'Céline' in the song 4you and I' ??I thought... What are you talking about ?Then I realized it was 'sailing like a bird high on the wings of love...' :) 1 Quote 29.11.2013 Paris Bercy: Sans attendre... the wait is over !

québecflower Posted August 28, 2014 at 05:12 PM Posted August 28, 2014 at 05:12 PM (edited) English is not her native language and she has an accent.i would like to know how bad it is.. there is some english speakers who have an accent as well, it is very hard to understand everything Adele says for exemple..In her case, i guess it is more the way she talks , not an accent. chocolatechip15 Posted August 29, 2014 at 01:34 AM Author Posted August 29, 2014 at 01:34 AM (edited) i would like to know how bad it is.. I adore Celine's accent -- it is totally part of her charm! It's a pretty strong accent when she speaks, but I never have any trouble understanding her. But when Celine sings, I hardly hear any accent. If you just listened to her singing, I don't think you'd know right away that English is not her native language (whereas it's obvious within 10 seconds when she speaks). But there are little things you can hear when she sings -- occasionally she drops the first "h" ("pictures 'alf-drawn") -- and she doesn't seem to use the aspirated consonants (for those who haven't studied linguistics - there are sounds like "p" that can be aspirated or unaspirated. When it's aspirated, there's a little puff of air when you say it. In English, a "p" that comes at the beginning of a word is aspirated (say "pot" and put your hand in front of your mouth, and you feel the little puff of air) -- but when a "p" is not at the beginning of a word, it's unaspirated (say "spot" and you won't feel the puff of air). Celine seems to only say the unaspirated version (I notice it, for instance, in ANDHC when she sings "where there was pain now there's joy" - you can hear her accent on the "pain" b/c it sounds like she's using the unaspirated p). Maybe there aren't aspirated consonants in French; I don't know. Edited August 29, 2014 at 01:36 AM by chocolatechip15 4 Quote

I'm not sure what the previous explanation was, but l'immensite just means "the immensity." The "L'" just means "the." In French, there are three words for "the" - Le, La, and L' -- you use "Le" if the word that follows is a masculine word (all french words are masculine or feminine); you use "La" if the word that follows is feminine, and you use L' if the word that follows starts with a vowel, because, as CelineDionFreak said, it's a contraction. 3 Quote
