Hi! I'm Lisa, and it's nice to meet you too! I guess I'm a newish member . .here since the beginning of 2012. Celine fan since 1996, though

 

I'm curious as to whether anyone here was active on alt.music.celine-dion, back in the day before newsgroups died. I was a lurker only in that group (never posted), but it was a great source of information in the late '90s, and you can still find the posts archived in google groups.

 

OMG I posted there too, that was back when we had dialup internet lol.

Wow, talk about flashback haha.

I remember looking on there for bootlegs, found this girl who had a ton of things I was super interested in, but I don't think she's around anymore.

LOL, believe it or not, I had dial-up until 2010! Drove me craaaazy and I spent a lot of time at the public library using their computers. But one of the great things about newsgroups was that they loaded way faster than regular pages - I guess because they were text only.

 

And Celine was actually the first thing I looked up the first time I used the internet. I remember that it was at my uncle's house, and he had AOL and was showing us this amazing Internet thing where you could look up *anything* -- and then he let us play with it. Naturally, being told you could look up anything, I immediately searched for Celine

I wasn't on that site -- but I do remember another amazing site. It was called The Colour of My Love, and it had this huge archive of the text of a million magazine articles about Celine, and also a chart of all her brothers and sisters and their dates of birth. I loved that site!

 

There was also an amazing project called Celine Dion Tape Tree, where people circulated copies of VHS tapes of Celine on various shows, back in pre-YouTube days.

OMG, the tape tree! I remember wanting to get sooo many of the things that people had, but I couldn't.

I did. It has FINALLY cooled down here. We had a hell of a heatwave. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. My roommate has been in Chicago for the last few days. It has been SO nice having the place to myself so I'll kinda miss it but I am glad she is coming home. I'll feel safer sleeping at night.

OMG thank god winter's over, although maybe not for everyone, up north in Canada and I think in some parts of the US they were getting snow a few days ago.

I was just going to say that sounds like something Luis would say, but Del beat me to it! Relatedly, it is now impossible for me to buy a can of Del Monte fruit or vegetables without thinking of Del and Luis!

I just hope his being a fan of her is still in tact, but for most real fans it takes a little more than a bunch of mean, negative comments for someone to be totally completely turned off to her. I become unable to hear her for a while when nasty things are said, but never turned off. I sure hope Luis will come back soon, I miss him!

I sent him a PM ages ago and never got a reply either -- I don't think he's logged in here since he decided to leave.

 

Christina, I don't think he stopped being a Celine fan -- I think he just stopped coming to this forum because of some of the negativity and fighting.

Do you live near Prince Edward Island, Del? I've always wanted to visit Prince Eddward Island, solely because of the Anne of Green Gables books, which I totally and competely adore.
