CelineDionFreak Posted April 28, 2015 at 10:52 AM Posted April 28, 2015 at 10:52 AM (edited) is this mandatory tests for everyone?Yeah, pretty much. (My best friend took the PSAT or SAT and she doesn't have to test today. I envy her lol) It's not the graduation exam here in the US, I took that last year. (I'm mad at the government cause like 2 months after we took it they said it didn't count... ) but yeah, it's like for college entrance, it helps them see more about you or whatever. I am stressed out haha! chocolatechip15 Posted April 29, 2015 at 01:47 AM Posted April 29, 2015 at 01:47 AM is this mandatory tests for everyone? The ACT and the SAT are standardized tests in the US that are basically used as university entrance exams. It's supposed to give schools a fair way to compare students from many different high schools . . .the two biggest factors in college admission are usually high school GPA and score on the SAT or ACT. But there's been a fair amount of criticism of the usefulness of the tests, and the fact that people who have the money can pay for test prep services that others can't afford, so it's not really such a fair comparison. There are a number of colleges and universities that have recently become "test-optional" -- that is, you don't have to give SAT or ACT scores to be considered for admission. Schools that require the test usually require either the ACT or the SAT - you don't have to take both. I think different tests are popular in different geographic areas. Where I went to high school in New York, we all took the SAT and I didn't know a single person who took the ACT. I think it's different in other parts of the country -- and maybe things are different now - I graduated from high school 16 years ago (scary!!) 4 Quote

chocolatechip15 Posted May 1, 2015 at 01:25 AM Posted May 1, 2015 at 01:25 AM You looking forward to your 20 year reunion? Mine is in a few years. So scary to think it's been that long. Funny thing is that I feel like Facebook has obviated the need for high school reunions. I LOVED high school, and always thought I would definitely want to go to a reunion . . .but when my 10th came around, I realized that I had stayed in touch with my closest friends, and Facebook satisfied the curiosity factor about most others. Someone from my class made a Facebook group for our 10th reunion, and I looked at the list of people going, and realized that I had no desire whatsoever to go. I have a lot of fun Celine memories from high school, though . . . like the time my best friend and I taped a magazine picture of Celine to the book cover (those brown paper things used to cover textbooks) on her math book. My friend was not a Celine fan at all, and I don't remember why I was carrying random pictures of Celine with me . . but we just thought that Celine-on-the-book-cover was the funniest thing ever. One glance at it and we'd both start cracking up. Looking back, I'm not quite sure why we thought it was so funny! Or the time I found out my mom got us tix to see Celine . .my first time, back in '98 . . . I was in school (lunch period), and there was a lot of screaming and hugging and people who didn't know what was going on who thought I had lost my mind . .that was a pretty awesome day. 5 Quote
sfbaysinger Posted May 2, 2015 at 04:47 PM Posted May 2, 2015 at 04:47 PM LOL I took the SAT testing in California and I hated it. But it's only temporary. Now comes the hard part...waiting. Yuck! And I'm down for a junk food day anytime anywhere. LOL Lisa thanks for sharing your high school memories. I can visualize that. LOL I went to a private religious school, very small, there were only four of us who graduated, so, obviously, no tenth reunion. It would have been in 2013. It is indeed scary how fast time does fly.
