LukeD Posted January 29, 2014 at 08:19 PM Posted January 29, 2014 at 08:19 PM It's classy. The extended version where they are talking about the song is nice too. It's just 2 divas singing the song, which is all this song's video really should be.If classy means boring, then yes it's classy. Huhu! Quote

gafsa Posted January 30, 2014 at 01:20 AM Posted January 30, 2014 at 01:20 AM Tell him sold more than When you believe outside US,and mariah and whitney also never sing it together after 2000 Really ? Interesting. Quote
jepoi Posted January 30, 2014 at 01:55 AM Posted January 30, 2014 at 01:55 AM The music video is too rushed and lame to be taken seriously. There is no plot, nothing really memorable. And Celine was actually using a pre-recorded track, it wasn't live. You know a lot. Quote
Alex_Incognito Posted January 30, 2014 at 02:11 AM Posted January 30, 2014 at 02:11 AM (edited) And Céline went on to achieve more in music than Babs ever did, Not true. When Celine does a classical album, a jazz album, gets a dance hit in her 60s, changes her style from standards to full on pop, has songs in more languages and does soundtracks for successful films....then she will achieve what Barbra has. My dream is for Celine to catch the artistic bug Barbra has and have the desire to record several genres. The difference is that Barbra's responsible for the direction of her career. Celine does as her team sees fit. Celine and Barbra are my 2 favorite female artists. But IMHO "Tell Him" is crap. For the 2 best voices of our generation, THAT's what David Foster came up with? They could have done better. Edited January 30, 2014 at 02:14 AM by Alex_Incognito 5 Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990
chocolatechip15 Posted January 30, 2014 at 02:52 AM Posted January 30, 2014 at 02:52 AM I don't think Celine lost any respect for Barbra after the Grammy's thing. Here's an interview from the day before or day -- Celine is disappointed, but so sweet, so sincere - I don't think there was any bitterness there at all. Your_Su_Phu Posted January 30, 2014 at 04:59 PM Posted January 30, 2014 at 04:59 PM (edited) Babs said nothing but nice things about Céline. And Céline went on to achieve more in music than Babs ever did, and I think Babs gets that and has much respect for Céline as a vocalist and performer. Err.... if you're talking about commercial success, It's not really fair to compare a female vocalist whose peak was in the 60's, 70's to one in the 90's. Female vocalists simply didn't sell that much during Streisand's time (and a lot of her work wasn't as mainstream as Celine's either), nor did they have as much of a global presence, but she's still one of the best selling female artists of all time. Outside of parts of Europe, she never really toured internationally the way Celine did either. Barbra is a FAR more critically acclaimed musician than Celine ever was, she is famed for her phrasing and her interpretation of standards by Sondheim, Gershwin, etc. Celine is mostly acclaimed for her technical skill. sfbaysinger Posted January 30, 2014 at 05:04 PM Posted January 30, 2014 at 05:04 PM No, that doesn't work. Barbra was on Broadway, a whole different kind of genre that is so not Celine. All I can say is that I would love it if she was on Barbra's new album. Tell Him is amazing and if something like that happened again it would be marvelous. I know Celine no longer lists her as a favorite, but I think she still is and always will be! 1 Quote L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle!
ehild Posted January 30, 2014 at 06:52 PM Posted January 30, 2014 at 06:52 PM I think it was a one sided love affair really..... Babs was her idol but I don't think the feeling was mutual. After Babs stood Céline up at The Grammys back in the days, I think Céline lost some respect for Babs... Yeah....I'm kinda thinking the feeling wasn't mutual, either. And Babs stood her up, I think the feeling lessened on her end too. Of course they'll both say nice things about each and be respectful to each other and their craft, but I don't think it goes much further than that for either of them. The song is definitely not one of my faves but it definitely showcases them both beautifully. However, I don't think I want to see a repeat of this unless they freshen it up a bit. 2 Quote ~Liz"Please don't make your career your life. Let it be your passion, let it bring you pleasure, but don't let it become your identity. You are so much more valuable than that." -Celine
Your_Su_Phu Posted January 31, 2014 at 01:39 AM Posted January 31, 2014 at 01:39 AM actually celine continued to gush about barbra many years later, like on AFI's special about the greatest movie songsin her english autobiography she goes into depth about letters/phone calls she received from barbra (barbra compared her voice to a bird that flew so high no one could reach it). this was all long after the snub barbra visited celine in vegas, and celine was among the celebrity guests on barbra's 2006 tourthey also met and took pictures for the we are the world haiti remake, and the last time celine mentioned babs was just last year in v magazine 3 Quote

garçon Posted January 31, 2014 at 11:01 AM Posted January 31, 2014 at 11:01 AM Interesting to now see some fierce Barbra - Celine comparisons on this forum. Earlier similar discussions could be found on Streisand fan forums.. I'm not with you in the conclusions you make here, though I share your analyses. The mere difference of both singers simply equals different genres employed. I believe Streisand is appreciated for her highly idiosyncratic sound, whereas Celine's much more versatile and powerful. If you'd listen to the Guilty - which happens to be her most commercially successful album - you'll hear some rough unedited edges on the end of Barbra's long belts, you'd never hear from Celine. Although, Streisand has demonstrated throughout her long career she's a genius in studio, yet only rarely she has impressed live audiences the way Celine has done ceaselessly in every era of her career. So, being able to magnificently pull your songs off live importantly adds to the fact of being an acclaimed singer. Not true. When Celine does a classical album, a jazz album, gets a dance hit in her 60s, changes her style from standards to full on pop, has songs in more languages and does soundtracks for successful films....then she will achieve what Barbra has. They could have done better. Come again?? You cannot neglect Celine's comprehensive French discography here. Only think of all the nuances in D'eux, Des Mots Qui Sonnents, S'il Suffisait D'aimer or even A l'Olympia and Live a Paris. Btw: the interesting thing about Tell Him is that both singers could remain credible while pulling off the pipes; so adding their signature sound to one song, preventing Divas Live like troubles. In the end, the song itself is no bad song at all. Maybe the lyrics were just cheesy. However, it was a big hit in Europe; actually the first of LTAL besides Barbra's first in years.... Or actually her very last one. actually celine continued to gush about barbra many years later, like on AFI's special about the greatest movie songsin her english autobiography she goes into depth about letters/phone calls she received from barbra (barbra compared her voice to a bird that flew so high no one could reach it). this was all long after the snub barbra visited celine in vegas, and celine was among the celebrity guests on barbra's 2006 tourthey also met and took pictures for the we are the world haiti remake, and the last time celine mentioned babs was just last year in v magazine Besides there was Barbra's frequent praising and mentioning of Celine and the Tell Him duet during her tours (if I remember correctly the 2000 timeless tour that was brought out on DVD for example)? Barbra even put some exalting notes on Celine on the Higher Ground album. Frankly, I guess these two singers are just beyond our narrow kind of comparisons. 1 Quote

Tyler1991 Posted January 31, 2014 at 01:12 PM Posted January 31, 2014 at 01:12 PM It's preposterous to say celine has accomplished more in music than Barbra ever could. They're both legends in their own right. To say one outshines the other is extremely ignorant. 2 Quote
