Forget the WWE we got verbal wrestling matches going on in this forum.

Apparently I missed a lot the few days I wasn't on here! LOL But we all love Celine, which is what counts most. That's why people feel so strongly one way or another. Sometimes I do wonder what other people are thinking but then I remember it's personal choice/opinion.

I can't believe so many people are voting for Another Year Has Gone by! I'm sincerely curious as to why people don't like it -- it's one of my all-time Celine favorites - definitely my favorite from the TAST album! I love the gentle, relaxed melody, the message, and the emotion in Celine's voice, especially when she sings: "And we're still holding hands when we're walkin" (cause you know she's thinking of how she and Rene still always hold hands . . ). Love the way the emotion comes through in this song even though there aren't big notes and you wouldn't call it a power ballad . .in that way, I think it's a lot like Sans Attendre.

 

Oh, well, just listened to the song again and it made me happy! :)

Haha, I knew that would get a reaction, but I've just never liked that song, and never understood why it's such a fan favorite. I guess there's some appeal in the power of her voice in the chorus, but I find the lyrics trite, boring, and not at all poetic, the melody uninteresing and repetitive, and Celine's delivery lacking in emotion.

 

When All The Way came out, I remember thinking it was a good thing she was taking a bit of a break, because it seemed like she was just doing the same types of things, but not as well as in the past -- it seemed like TYLAM and I Want You to Need Me were only there b/c they'd previously had good experiences with James Horner/Will Jennings and Diane Warren, but those two songs just seemed like not-very-good imitations of much-better earlier songs. LIstening to those songs, Celine also seemed a bit tired, not so into what she was doing, like she need to be more rested and refreshed. (That said, I adored "That's the Way It Is" and "If Walls Could Talk," so that theory doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but that's the way I felt).

 

But one of the most interesting and fun things about this game is seeing the songs other fans like and don't like. I just posted earlier my astonishment that people are voting down Another Year Has Gone By -- I'm also shocked by how early Beauty and the Beast is getting votes -- to me, it's such a beautiful classic -- everything about it is so gorgeous, and such a perfect melding of Celine's and Peabo's voices. (Also, Beauty and the Beast - the movie - came out when I was 10 years old and the perfect age to love it, so it's connected to childhood memories for me).
