I would love to hear them do Pour que tu m'aimes encore together. Lara did her own version of it a few years ago. Or Céline could sing "I Will Love Again" with Lara. I've always thought that song would fit Celine's voice so very well.

Can't say the same about the covers Celine has done throughout her career since a good portion of them IS

Karaoke-ish copies of the originals (If you asked me to, The power of love, It's all coming back to me now, Taking Chances, Alone, New Dawn, I drove all night, Retiens moi, Tu nages, Le fils de Superman, Falling into you... let me stop here! )

 

Lara also writes the lyrics of her songs and has sung in like 9 languages.

 

If there is one who is more original and creative, then this one is Lara, whether we like it or not.

I know what you mean. I love Celine with all my heart, doesn't matter what fanatics could say. But Lara is for me the best female singer of theses days, when we talk about technique. It's incredible to listen to her live. But that's all I can feel about her. Nothing more. And even throught I admire Lara's voice, I don't know if I would like to listen a duet between her and Celine. It can sound very catch fighting.

I like Lara but Celine will always be my #1 favorite singer by far. However, saying Lara is a copycat when she always puts her trademark in what she does, creates her own music and lyrics and sings in so many different languages is a contradiction, not an opinion. Also, my statement that Celine has been less original and less creative is a fact, not an opinion. I didn't ask you to discuss with me, I simply replied to your post cause I'm free to do so.

Agreed 100%. I'm not even into Lara's music, it's just that I admire her as a vocalist and artist and I think it's unfair to see a big amount of Celine fans (I'm talking about comments on YouTube as well) bashing her.

that is a dream if they do. To all of you out there, just like celine wanted to be like barbra and whitney, lara wanted to be like celine. and if she were to do a duet, i would prefer it to be with a real artist who can sing her butt off like lara. diva stans are really funny, they get so caught off by their fanaticism that they cant see the big picture. yes lara will benefit more from the duet, but the duet will garner a lot of attention for celine too. win win. we get a real duet that will probably be awesome vocally whether you like lara or not, again win win.

I have to admit that I'm not excited. If they really sing together, I truly hope it won't be a Celine song. I just don't like the way Lara sings Celine. But, of course, this is only my opinion. I would love to see them sing together!!! Since both are famous for their fab voices, and great techniques, they may help push each other to a higher level. I rather see them sing a non-Celine song though, cuz I want to see Celine singing other songs, to get some new experiences. I love Lara's Broken Vow, J'y Crois Encore, To Love Again...just to name a few.

I like this idea, it´s something like if Céline and Mariah sing together, but in francophone world, simply great voices, great francophone singers sing together, I would like to hear Céline singing one of Lara´s songs and Lara sings Céline´s song. I saw Lara live and she is simply great!

Lara is a very good singer, far better than Mariah in my opinion, I would love to see a duet between them. Her last two albums I did not care for, but if this helped her gain some exposure and get her career back on track a bit if be happy for her. Yes she has been influenced by and probably envies, Celine's career. But she is a true performer in her own right. As Pat said, all Diva's can be accused of imitating the one that went before them, all the easy back to the original Diva. In the same way that all performers are influenced by their own personal favourites.

Tschaikovsky was possibly accused of being a wannabe Mozart by Mozartians. (or whatever his fan club members called themselves)

 

It would be cool to see these two ladies belt out something stunning for us, maybe even do a Gloria/Celine song swap. Followed by a duet on one of the songs from Sans Attendre.

Lara's career does has simularities to Céline's --> Eurovision/ French/English career/ big notes etc. But also some copycats tricks: Lara also tried to make it in Québec, pretending to be like Québecoise, her tour outfits, singing Calling You, Mamy Blue and doing a Starmania Medley... And I can't help feeling Lara and Sony did try to fill the gap Céline left in 2000 when she was on a break. I don't think it's a coincidence her first English album came out on Sony just as Céline was on a break.... And now I think Lara is being the Céline/Whitney in Eastern Europe and Russia, because Céline'll never visit those places. Which is great for Lara, but her French career is suffering from it...

 

I watched the TLFEM font leur Show Saturday, and I didn't like the concert so much. There were some good parts, but overall it was a bit too forced IMO. I have seen Lara live 3 times and I got all her stuff... But I don't think she can sing that great live anymore. If you compaire her first live cd to Un Regard 9, then there's a big difference.

 

I do praise Lara though in creativity! Of course the songwriting, but also her En Toute Intimité show is AMAZING!! And Céline could definitely learn from that... Or at least René should... But about Céline's covers; TPOL, IACBTMN, IDAN, ABM... those songs sound nothing like the original IMO.

 

Céline is Lara's no 1 idol, and I am all for a duet, don't get me wrong! But I have the feeling Céline doesn't really like her... so that is making me wonder if she would want to sing live with her... Guess time will tell! Though I'd love to hear Céline sing songs like Je T'Aime, J'Y Crois Encore, Si Tu M'Aimes or Immortelle

Celine is singing the exact same notes in these songs but her voice is usually bigger than the other artists' (especially in the upper 4th and up to middle 5th octave), so that might confuses you.

Same way, I DON'T really like Lara's covers of Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore and L'Amour Existe Encore BUT I have to admit that she showed some creativity and musicianship, since she put her own trademark in those songs.

That's EXACTLY how I see it too. Lara (and Sony) tried to fill the gap when Céline took her much needed break.

And Lara copied many of Céline's outfits (think of the FIY white outfit and then look at a tour Lara did afterwards).

And let's not forget the hair... When Céline got a perm, well guess who else got a perm? When Céline went with long straight blondish hair, well Lara did the exact same thing. Always right after Céline. Just a coincidence you think? And moving to Québec is a bit creepy... because her French career wasn't working prior to her move to Québec...

And by the way, she doesn't write ALL of her songs...
