Jennifer Nettles covers 'My Heart Will Go On'

They just covered the song a few minutes ago on the singing competition 'Duets' tonight June 20th 2012. I don't have a video of it yet but as soon as it comes up on Youtube. It was VERY good and her duet partner John landed in first place with it.

Sorry, didn't like it at all. I like Jennifer but this duet just didn't sit right with me.

I liked it and I don't liked it. As a duet it went very well, the voices mixed good, but it misses everything the original song has; the emotion behind it, the melodyline is different because of the duet. Nice try, but I prefer to hear it in a Solo version.

Brilliant cover of this song. Worked on every level. They both found the emotion of the piece - especially when relating to each other (reminded me of Celine and Bruno from the Millennium Concert). They made it their own while sticking true to the original song. Someone said the melody line was different but it was the same melody as the song - I don't know what you were listening to unless you were only "hearing" Jennifer's voice - she was singing harmony - basically the same as the track. Although I will say that, with the sound mix, she definitely overpowered him and the harmony did come through more.

It is different, but good different. If they had sung it exactly like the original they would be impersonating Céline, but now they really made an original cover. I love the harmony in the refrain, and it's a fresh take on a song that has changed 0% since it was released I think some innovation by Céline herself wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

Personally I thought the song was perfect for their voices. John says he does best at ballads and he prefers them. Jenn has no trouble with any of them I think.

In my opinion, Jennifer can sing anything. I love her! I just wish they had time to sing full songs on that show, it seemed they rushed it

I found the performance good, but i found they just tried to reach the notes instead of putting feeling in it. Like at the end of the performance after the singing, the song should be quiet but dramatic. They didnt have much feeling!

 

I did love the alterations though!

I loved it. I think Jennifer's amazing and can sing anything, and they brought a fresh take to this song. It's not the version we're used to, which, I think, really helped. I'm sure there are a lot of us that are getting a little sick of MHWGO and it was nice to hear a version that doesn't sound anything close to the original. I think it was fantastic.

 

Also, what happened to, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all"? It's kind of rude to just come in here and post things like, "WRONG on so many levels." I can understand being constructive about it, pointing out what you didn't think worked and what you think did, but things like that are just ridiculous.

I thought it was ok. Their voices were great together but not for that song.

I thought it was good. I also loved the instruments, how it was a bit different but they did stay true to it. John admitted he thinks Celine is `one of the best people in the world`. I like J Rome a bit better, and I usually do not like Celine covers. But last night's theme was `movie songs` and you can't expect people to do that theme Without someone doing this song.

Also loved the ending, as someone earlier on pointed out.
