[Taking Chances]

Several years ago a made a "CD" version based on the Laserdisc version of Live à Paris. The quality of the Laserdisc is amazing, and it's arguably better than the official CD release, and it includes more songs than the standard CD release. So now with the announcement of the vinyl release of Live à Paris, I thought I'd share the Laserdisc CD version of Live à Paris. It's literally just the audio from the laserdisc in lossless quality. It's great if you just wanna listen and not watch the concert.

As much as I LOVE "The Power Of Love" and enjoy the energy Céline's got with performing "River Deep Mountain High" and "Love Can Move Mountains", I don't need those on this new release 🙂

Sorry, but I couldn't care less. I don't need 30 year old music on a vinyl. I don't even have a vinyl player. It's 2026... give us something better!

Well real vinyl from the past with a real value. These rééditions are not valuable.

Thank you. So how would the quality of this ‘lossless’ compare to the one on Apple Music?

This is an interesting question, but it depends on what you compare it to. I suppose you mean the official CD version that's on Apple Music?

For PCM stereo: Laserdisc and CD are technically equal, since both use 16-bit, 44.1 kHz PCM. In practice: A Laserdisc can sound better than a CD if it has a superior master. So the format itself is not inherently better than CD, but the way the audio was mastered and encoded can make certain Laserdisc sound exceptionally good. Which is the case with Live a Paris.

So what it comes down to is just what you prefer. I've listened to both the CD and the Laserdisc and I prefer the audio of the Laserdisc for Live a Paris. It's just mixed better. The whole reason I made the Laserdisc into a CD is because the audio quality is exceptionally good, and I think it's better than the CD version.

Interestingly, there is a DVD version of Live a Paris too, and that version is kind of bad on all fronts compared to the audio and video of the Laserdisc, or even just the audio from the standard CD.

Curious: how are they going to separate the tracks? Will there be no divider or will everyone track end in a fade-out like Celine Dion en concert back in 1985?

It's gonna be the 14 track edition from the 1996 CD. I would be surprised if they'd do something new from the original master. Sony France is used to only put MP3 from the original CDs on vinyl so I guess there will be a new fade out at the end of track 7 and a new fade in at the beginning of track 8...and that's all !

It would be awesome to have the whole show on it. Great to finally get a live album on vinyl.

I remember I stayed at my aunt and uncle in the summer and he went to the library to rent some Celine Dion albums so he could transfer them onto cassette for me. LAP was one of them, would listen to it on my Walkman when we drove home. Didn't understand a word, but it was magical! Later on I bought the VHS with my saved coins, it was sooo much money at that age. And would watch it everytime.

The memories! 

1 thing I would really get excited for would be the whole remastered concert for streaming.

À l’occasion de la résidence à Paris, en septembre, tous les vinyles de Celine sortent le 04/09 dans des éditions limitées (couleur blanc nacré ).

 

De plus, la version vinyle du live à Paris, 1995 sort pour la première fois en vinyle avec un titre bonus( à Paris ) qu’elle avait enregistré en 2004, en remplacement de  to love you more.

Well, this just proves that you were complaining before knowing all the details. The tracklist is now up on Sony Music Canada’s website. For the first time ever, the complete live concert is included, and it even features “À Paris.”

Yes and Misled is also missing  I think they changed the order for the running time.

OMG!  Prayers have indeed been heard!  This is absolutely wild.  Kudos to whomever higher up saw this one through.

 

Not including "Misled" isn't a big deal - I always found the live arrangement to be over rushed and unappealing.  (And that's without mentioning the cringe Terry Bradford dancing)
