Celine Dion is one of the greatest performers in music history, she has THE VOICE, and incredible presence in the stage, elegance, etc. But, Celine, unfortunately, still hasn't said anything in music, (regardless of the success) no real moving feelings, always singing about superficial love and happiness with easy 90's pop compositions. The perfect singer, with the perfect life, and that, in any art, it's totally non-productive. I love to hear Celine, but, by this moment, I can't consider her a moving artist. I don't mind if Rolling Stone "hate" Celine Dion, They are not going to change my opinion about Celine, I will keep on listening, but I understand that Celine and Rolling Stone philosophy doesn't match. agree to some point, though I think that Rolling Stone magazine focuses on artists that write their own music and that the music has something to say. Lady Gaga, she is not a bad singer at all and yes she is contraversial, always in the spotlight with weird clothes. That is what makes her popular too. And she has a message. Wether you like her or not. Celine is very good singer in her own repertoire and she will not take another image like Gaga or wear trashy outfits. There for she is not interesting for Rolling Stone magazine. And besides, Celine's music is for a mature audience mainly ( exceptions to the rule of course) and it is not rock& roll, not a raunchy life, with and sex and drugs. But do we want that? of course not, we like Celine for what she is, what she does and the incredible singer she is! no magazine can change our opinion! idroveallnight Posted September 5, 2011 at 04:29 PM Posted September 5, 2011 at 04:29 PM From the outside looking in, a lot of people think Celine is a greedy, money hungry person who is disconnected from her performances and all the lyrics she sings. Hate to say it, but it's the truth. We obviously know that is not true but that is, sadly, the perception out there. The truth is, Celine is perfect, and a lot of people are jealous. If you were a struggling talent in the music business, wouldn't you have at least a little bit of animosity against Celine for packing Caesars every night, racking thousands of awards, selling millions of albums, signing multi-million dollar contracts, and performing to sold-out crowds around the world? And mind you, she's done all of that with a squeaky clean record, no drama, and virtually no scandals or public breakdowns. A lot of the writers for Rolling Stone are presumably these kinds of Hollywood rejects that are jealous of her success or just don't do the research on her (like coming to this forum) and just go with the general perception out there. The magazine itself also has a completely different target audience than Celine's. Celine's main demographic (which I'm assuming these days is the 40+ audience who enjoy plucky pop tunes & ballads) probably don't read Rolling Stone anyway so it really doesn't affect their readership. They merely use Celine as a scapegoat for their frustrations with life. Quote

I don't mind if Rolling Stone "hate" Celine Dion, They are not going to change my opinion about Celine, I will keep on listening, but I understand that Celine and Rolling Stone philosophy doesn't match. I never thought of things this way until I read this post. You are absolutely right. She hasn't released any songs that would have culturally made a difference or had an impact. In a lot of people's lives personally, yes she's made a difference and been an inspiration. But she has not released anything with a strong message, and I think they missed that band wagon with "This Time". Yeah I agree, Britney has not adapted to the changes. And in her own way, I actually think Celine has. And, even if she hadn't, she doesn't need to. She's frdaking Celine Dion!!And I do not think she sings about "supperficial" love and happiness. What she sings about moves/inspires people so much it's not even funny. Have any of you seen the Operah episode where a young girl who was orphaned talked about Celine teaching her how to love after being so abandoned and neglected? Have you heard how inspirational she is to people overcoming impossible odds? and you tell me she's not moving? Maybe people have become immune to her music after so long, numb, or maybe no longer listening. But she moves me every single time I hear her! Like I said above, she has moved and inspired quite a few people within their personal lives. But she hasn't released a song that would have the whole world saying "Oh my God, have you heard that new Celine Dion song? Those lyrics, that content, that message?" There hasn't been a song that she has released that would give off that kind of vibe. Here's the link:http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/rs_sotd/6...ngs-of-the-90s/ it's the opinion of some people.. for me it's still one the greatest songs of the 90's! that is my opinion! I loved it when it came out , ever since I saw Titanic for the first time. It was a moving song, esspecially after having seen the movie. But still, this melody is fantastic with the flute and the bombastic end with the drums and the videoclip accompanying. Maybe not as emotional and wowing like before, but I still like the song a lot.So saying worst song??? come on get a life. there are enough bad songs made in the 90s.. my heart will go on certainly does not belong on that list! period! CelineStorm Posted September 7, 2011 at 10:44 PM Author Posted September 7, 2011 at 10:44 PM Totally agree, all the songs in that list are stupid, just songs for fun, but Why "My heart will go on" ?, is one of the legend songs of history beside "I will always love you" Quote

donpi86 Posted September 8, 2011 at 10:11 AM Posted September 8, 2011 at 10:11 AM Baahh.. it's silly... it's like the modern kids, all this cool people that hates the succesful things. If you now ask to a lot of intellectual moviegoers what they think about Titanic, they will respond "It's a very silly love movie and one of the worst of the last decades..." and I'm pretty sure that all of them cried watching it. I know it is a simple movie, totally silly, but it is incredibly well done, very effective in its emotions and it goes directly to the heart of the collective mass (that's why it was one of the greatest hits on the box office in the whole world) So I can't consider it a bad movie. As Titanic the movie; Titanic the soundtrack. My Heart Will Go On is a simple love song, with a very easy message accesible to everybody, and emotionally conected to the movie and because of that it becomes a powerful love songs that moves everybody. who can deny a chill in the final part of the song; even the "intellectual music lovers"; but it's hard to recognize. zuv Posted September 8, 2011 at 02:34 PM Posted September 8, 2011 at 02:34 PM lolll, honestly, something must have happen between Dion/Stone camps... I'm not a big fan of MHWGO, but even the biggest haters would know that this song doesn't belong on that list. It just make RS look bad and not reliable... If that song is the worst of the 90's, why millions of people are still paying to see it sang live 15 yrs later? And i'm sure a big % are going to Celine's show expecting only one thing: to hear MHWGO So Stupid Quote

ManuelDiom Posted September 8, 2011 at 09:55 PM Posted September 8, 2011 at 09:55 PM Rolling Stone's magazine is a complete joke. DCCeline Posted May 23, 2024 at 11:39 AM Posted May 23, 2024 at 11:39 AM (edited) The list is a piece of crap. It clearly panders to the Apple Music audience. Falling into you won album of the year at the Grammy awards and it's not even on the list. Does that even make sense how many of those other albums one album of the year? Chantemoi Posted May 23, 2024 at 06:15 PM Posted May 23, 2024 at 06:15 PM FIY & LTAL were commercial successes, sure — by no means did they change the landscape of the music industry. We all know the most common “read” on Céline is the lack of artistry when it comes to song selection. That said, I think D’eux would have been a better choice — and probably the only French album on the list. 5 Quote
