Those videos on Youtube with Celine's highest, deepest, best notes, I could watch for hours at a time, :shifty: each time just becoming more and more astonished :jawdrop:

L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle! :)

I think one important thing to look at though is that part of the reason why she was so much better in the earlier part of the tour was because the songs were new. She went straight from Vegas to this tour, with 2 months in between, and a lot of that time was spent rehearsing, so she didn't exactly have a time to rest her voice. But between the show before Boston, and the Boston show, she had a month? Is that right? So she should have been fine!

It seems as if when Celine performs a new song, or a song for the first time, she performs it the proper way. Then as she performs it, she finds ways to "take shortcuts" and simplify the song. One example is Love Can Move Mountains. In 1992 and 1993, she performed it properly. She sang all the F5's in there, which were quite a bit. Since 1994, she has removed all of the F5's and now just talks her way through the entire mess of a performance. There is no doubt she could still do the F5's, but she has become so accustomed to doing it that she just finds a newer, more simple way.

I have no doubt she could have hit the F5 in Man's World for the DVD like she did in Africa, instead of doing the mixed G5. And actually, she did do it, it was the only time after Asia she did it again, but she did it once in Boston. Unfortunately, they chose the Montreal "Everything they can" which was the worst of the four shows.

Same with the Alone F5, which was changed to a mixed G5. She continued doing strong F5's in Fade Away and River Deep, so she could have in Alone.

I strongly feel that a lot of it is not so much that her voice has taken a toll, but just that she chooses to simplify things.

Here is another example.

Notice how in the first one she sings the high notes with a backing track, and she sounds on par with it. Yet in the second, she sounds flat and so much lower thant he backing. It sounds congested, as if there are multiple voices being projected (which there are), but in the first it's so close you can barely tell.

There is no doubt she can do the E5's, she just chooses not to. Strangely enough, that first performance is 1994, yet in the two tour performances we have from 1991, she performed them more similarly to the 1999 performance.

However, the key trend though, has been that she has made her songs easier, not harder, throughout her career.

Very true. It's before she gets into her "robot-tour" mode and she's excited to perform the songs at first I guess. By the time she is taking the shortcuts, she's tired and wants to be finished.

I know what you mean... And yes, you're right when you say she changes the songs to an easier way to perform them. I mean, everybody (SINGERS, like Whitney, Christina, Aretha, etc) do that. Sometimes to make it easier, and sometimes to give it a different touch. And sometimes cause she is tired of dancing and walking through the stage... And yes, I do think she can hit those notes everytime she wants.

Posted
"Naked" has the highest note, i believe.
Posted
Not necessarily. She hit the exact same note in Naked that she hit in "Everybody's Talkin' My Baby Down" and "When I Need You".
Posted
Underrated songs of hers that are really good IMO are I Want You to Need Me, When I Need You, and Priere Paienne (such a difficult song to sing..)

Even though Celine's voice was definantly wore out by that time, [the AND show version] she still sounds great, hard song, pretty flawless, I wish she would sing it with todays voice.

The one from TCOML...flawless. I wish she would've included that song in the new Vegas show. It would've been a better cover song to do than some of the others. She definitely can still sing it today.

Don't know if it would be better than some of the covers on the show, but I would love this song to be part of "Celine"... She sings it like if it was meant for her... :in_love:

That's what I love about celine, she makes all her covers 10X more powerful than the originals. My Way is a good example of this..her cover of that was absolutely amazing, of course.

I could also see either My Way or Can't Help Falling in Love in the new show. Both are amazing but the covers she does in it now are, too.

Although this isn't the thread to discuss the new show so I'm going to stop doing it myself and get us all back...

Listening to then You Look At Me right now. It's been mentioned already, but still, wow wow wow wow wow wow. She never ceases to amaze me, even 10-year-old recordings!

The latest one, in the collesseum is my favorite. I wish they would have done something with the light effects and at least combed her frizzies too

The notes are amazing tho.

My favorite Celine look of all time is from divas 2002 :D

Celine has never recorded that in a studio? I would love it, I'd be one of the first th buy that single if it ever came out!!!!!!!!!
