I don't know... We (swedes) were soooo spoiled last year when Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel got married. There was a "we're one of you and you're one of us" kind of feeling (like always with Victoria) all day long, with cameras till around midnight I believe, through the dinner and dance and cake and everything until the private past-midnight party for the "younger" part of the guests... The brittish royal family is SO much bigger than ours on every scale, so it surprises me that this is it. And I get that they're not as close to the other royal houses/relatives as the rest are together (the Norwegian Crown Prince, his wife, his sister and her husband composed and performed a song for Victoria and Daniel the night before their wedding; and are close friends with many others) so there's no surprise there won't be any royal relatives on the part hosted by Charles & Camilla later today. But what about the people wanting to take in the celebration out on the streets and who, honestly, ? Why shut them out? Like I said, I guess we're spoiled with a very open and generous Crown Princess... But still, lovely bride! I think all the hype is coming from the fact that here in Britain, we have something which most other countries around the world do not; an active and internationally known and renowned Royal Family. Don't get me wrong - I know many other countries around the world have a royal family but there seems to be something about the British Monarchy that has captivated people for so many years. The Monarchy goes back to 400AD and has been an integral part of our history for such a long time - even up until recently (the last few hundred years - which is recent for British history!) the monarchy had huge amounts of power and control over the people and whilst this is no longer the case, they are still hugely important figureheads within our country, the commenwealth and indeed the world I think.I was talking to an American friend of mine today and she said that, having lived in Britain for over 10 years now, she's only just really starting to realise how important the British Monarchy is to our country... I think as Brits we take it for granted, but that for people who do not live in the UK, it is something a little more strange and my friend said that she found it hard to identify with for a long time. It would have been better if Kate was holding Williams' hands but i guess that's not allowed. the only time i smiled when i watched the wedding was when Kate looked at William and smiled and William smiled back. the choir was great but if they were singing a song about rejoicing they should have smiling faces.
