Question about eating and dining out in Vegas

I'm a big Japanese & Thai cuisine lover so I hope to get to try at least one or two of these in Vegas.

 

Any hints on tipping?? I have absolutely no idea/experience about this. I suppose there's no tip needed in buffets, right? But what about the restaurants when you're getting served?

 

Other question:

Does all these buffet prices (for breakfasts, brunches, lunches, dinners...) include drinks? By this I mean non-alcoholic drinks.

Or do you get only a limited amount of drinks included? Or are they always to be paid extra?

You could try Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet at Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon for only 11,90$.

Thanks for this info, Renato! I like Chinese food too but it's also very common and cheap here and I kinda get a bit bored by it at the time being. I prefer Japanese & Thai as it's more sofisticated to me but... more expansive as well, oh yeah.

You normally order soft drinks or alcoholic ones from the server at your buffet table and pay seperately for them. You would then leave a tip for your server when you're finished.

 

If I remember right, the breakfast buffets include tea/coffee/juice.

 

Everyone expects a tip, but at the end of the day however much you leave is dependant on how well they've looked after you. I'm not the word's greatest tipper and I didn't get anyone run after me saying I hadn't left enough!

I mean, I don't plan on eating twice in the same place but still wouldn't like to be viewed as greedy or nerd, lol.

Anything between 10% and 20% is OK.

In some places they automatically add the tip to the bill, so make sure you don't tip twice!

for tipping and taxes on the book it says

in most restaurants, tip the waiter 16% - 20% (to figure the amount quickly, just double the tax noted on the check - it's 7.25% of ur bill and add a bit more) bills for parties of six or more sometimes include the tip already. tip at least $1 per drink at the bar.

one thing to keep in mind about Vegas: u think u might be saving money going off strip, but a cab ride round trip can make a huge difference to the cost of the evening. If you walk to a nearby restaurant, and skip the $15-20 cap each way, that's a nicer dinner closer to ur hotel

 

i think that's a pretty good tip for eating in LV!!can't wait only 1 more week til Vegas!

I definitely agree that the cost of getting a cab to a place off the strip is not worth it, but for those of you who may be driving or have the means to leave the strip without a taking a cab can try some great local places that are close to the strip. I'm a student at UNLV so some great places that are close to that area are Cafe Rio and Metro Pizza. They're both around $10 for a good meal and are great family places (if you go to Metro Pizza you need to try the Garlic Knots!).

I have found that there are also quite a few reasonably priced places in Planet Hollywood like Cheeseburger Las Vegas and La Salsa Cantina. Also, one of my favorites, if you want to have a lot of fun when you're out for dinner, try Dicks at the Excalibur. It's pretty ridiculous and over the top but can be a blast. For those of you who don't know, the waiters are supposed to be jerks and are extremely rude (in a funny and endearing way). They play pranks on the customers and make personalized hats that are hilarious. I do recommend this restaurant more for adults however. You really can't go wrong though when eating on the strip, food tends to be top notch in vegas.

I didn't want to risk not getting in until later and having to rush to the show Any other good suggestions that are close to Caesar's? We wanted that to be our 'fancy night' hahaha. I've looked at Spago, and I think it's a good possibility. I've got some picky eaters on my hands though and I want to make sure that everyone will be able to find something they want!

Spago is great! Probably one of my favorites in Caesars. I've also eaten at Trevi and the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Caesars and I have to say my favorite was Spago then probably Trevi, especially if you want it to be your fancy night out. Trevi may have had a slightly larger menu but Spago has quite a few options so I think that would be a good choice!

 

p.s. the cheesecake factory does tend to take a while to get a dinner table so you're best at a place that takes reservations
