Celine sued Ici Paris magazine over false rumors

I believe France has an actual law for right to privacy. I remember reading that Juliette Binoche used to sue all the time when stories were printed about her. Here in the U.S.A we don't have that law. You can still sue but we don't have a governmental right to privacy.

 

Really? Then how on Earth do French tabloids still exist? Every single thing they print could be considered an invasion of privacy, they must get sued every other day?!

Very disturbing. That's quite a rumor to spread especially if it's not true. What an awful thing to even suggest! I'm sure Celine was quite upset when she heard about it.

 

I wish the tabloids would just leave her alone.

That's terrible, how can anybody justify stressing out a pregnan woman, just to sell papers.

 

Things like that annoy me so much, just because she's famous, it doesn't mean they have the right to invade her privacy. Whether it was true or not, they have no right to publish it.

Celine Dion wins against celeb mag

 

SINGER Celine Dion has been awarded damages after a French magazine was found guilty of violating her privacy.

The court in Toulouse ordered French celebrity magazine Ici Paris to pay 8000 euros ($10,200) in damages, and 2000 euros in court fees, after it wrote in September 2010 that the Canadian star had been rushed to hospital when pregnant and doctors feared for the twins she was expecting.

 

The five-time Grammy winner denied the report and the next month delivered by C-section fraternal twin boys, Nelson and Eddy, in Florida.

 

The suit had been seeking 100,000 euros in damages and interest for Dion and the same amount for her husband-manager Rene Angelil.

 

"The main thing is that there was a conviction, it is a matter of principle," Dion's lawyer Jacques Levy said.

 

"She talks about her private life, certainly, but it is up to her to decide who she deals with."
