Celine sued Ici Paris magazine over false rumors

Celine Dion sued Ici Paris for spreading false rumors about her pregnancy.

She claimed damages € 100,000. She said she was "harassed" by this group, sued the newspaper for "violation of right of publicity" and "violation of the intimacy of private life".

This is all kinda weird. I mean, Rene said that he kept this info from Celine so why would they sue. Celine would definately find out about all this now. It just doesn't make sense. Even if Rene just sued, Celine would have to be involved cuz it's about her. Rene tried to keep her away from stress so why would he put her in this stressful situation. I would have just left things alone.

Exactly... but can she even sue for that? Violation of privacy doesn't seem exactly illegal, unless they broke into a hospital and stole medical records or something, which is doubtful. And what happened to Celine being "an open book"? This whole thing is getting weird.

If someone told them something, and if it happens to be true, and they published it- I really don't see what they did wrong. In that case it would be Celine who was wrong, for lying to her fans. Idk...it just seems that if it weren't true, she'd be suing for defamation or something more concrete?

Funny that you mention this. Didn't Celine sue the National Enquirer way back when for saying she was pregnant with twins? I guess they will be counter suing her since the story is now true.

I believe France has an actual law for right to privacy. I remember reading that Juliette Binoche used to sue all the time when stories were printed about her. Here in the U.S.A we don't have that law. You can still sue but we don't have a governmental right to privacy.

I have read a rumor in internet magazines. they referred ICI magazine for their rumor, but they said it is rumor and they don't know the real story.

in bottom it was said that the rumor was false, maybe the news was right but they didn't want public to know it

I don't know if I am allowed to say what they said. maybe many of you know it already.
