Gee, guys, relax! She's proven she's one of the best. If she wants to take a back seat, well be it.

Who cares about these lists?

Exactly.. This is bogus

I have waited for so long...for a miracle to come, A New Day Has Come!!

It's insulting. Of course new artists like Alicia Keys have to be in the list  . No offence to her fans, but how many videos has Céline compared to Alicia? 30? 40?

But oh well, we shouldn't be surprised at all. If only Céline had believed she had some great albums produced out there instead of ignoring them... what critic writer in this business still believe that Céline Dion believes in her music career when all they see is a woman promoting her family, husband and son everywhere she goes? We can't blame them honestly.

Truth of the matter is you don’t earn yourself prestige with diapers, babies and family talk. It’s mostly disheartening to see even VH1 abandoning her. After C.Tylor left Billboard, Larry King quitting in 2011 and Perez Hilton boycotting Sony Music artist, she has NO ONE to promote her on the web. Not one music critic. The only thing she can do is let the music speak. But wait, music, which music!? There was music to her? I hardly can remember. She does all her best to let ME forget.

I would suggest that up to, and including, "A New Day Has Come" Celine was still seen as relevant and "cool" in the eyes of the popular music world.

Since her decision, and it was HER decision, to go to Vegas she's moved into legend status and as such her music is no longer important or, sadly, relevant. Look back at the "Taking Chances" promo tour - everywhere she went she was being honoured with some "lifetime achievement" or "outstanding merit" award - no-one was really interested in her new album and single. Celine herself contributed to this.

As Seb said Celine is more interested these days in talking about babies, diapers and being a Mum. That's totally fine and completely understandable. It's been this way since 2002 and it's about to continue big time!!

Sadly though for those of us who care for Celine's place is music history and, frankly not just history, more so her place currently on the music scene it's a sad state of affairs for her at the moment.

For so long all that mattered to Rene and Celine was cementing her place in the record books at THE female singer. Keep going the way they are or have been for a while now and it looks like all their hard work will have been in vain.

I have to agree with all what you said guys, unfortunately. It's very sad that just when she did the album that everyone liked and received great critics from every corner of the world (and of course I'm talking about ANDHC, 2002), it looks like the effort was in vain

And Celine'sBlues, then be prepared to her comeback with the breaking news about the new babies... She won't talk about nothing else for years :ermm:

^ very sad yet very true...and now round 2 of vegas is about to bury what's left of her career...

For those of us who hate that return, I have to admit that you're right. If it's not buried already since 2003 :whistling:

This list is complete bullshit. I never heard of N.W.A., Curtis Mayfield, Judas Priest, Iggy & The Stooges, Little Richard, Cheap Trick, The Who, The Clash, Rush, Steely Dan, OutKast, Run-D.M.C., Sly & The Family Stone, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cream, Talking Heads, Notorious B.I.G, R.E.M., Black Sabbath...

It's completely ridiculous to see a Top100 half filled with unknown singers whereas well-known and popular singers like Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Shakira, Lady Gaga, Nelly Furtado, The Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry are absent from this list. -_-

No offence, but is that list even real? I mean ''The Black Eyed Peas'' is not even on there. Not a fan of them, but aren't they like huge right now. The same for Lady Gaga. And like some of you guys said: I don't know half the people on the list. Edited by Claudette

A major diss! Well, that's what you get for milking your greatest hits to death before the age of 40.

Once again I ask : How did you get the FULL list of top 100? The website only state the Top 20 and does not even list the number 1 on the list. The VH1 show is due on Sept 6 2010 and it did not give away all the names... I think the poster of this thread imagined the whole list from scratch...

I'm honestly not surprised... Celine has never been known for her "artistry" but instead she is known for her powerful voice and "the titanic song."

Like I've said on various other forums, Celine's legendary status has only just taken effect - the latter half of this decade is when she's been recognised as an icon and pop music legend. She has broken down language barriers, reinvented Las Vegas history, and broken more records than any artist of the last 20 years - she's the biggest music star of the last 20 years.

But this doesn't necessarily transcend to these lists. These lists are for stuck up music critics, who think that by ranking every rock influence possible, they've devised a 'cool list'. Its bollocks to be honest. Celine should've been top 100, without a doubt.

Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

I don't care much about lists like this but it's weird Céline isn't included. I've never heard of some of the artists on the list.

While it maybe unfortunate that Celine did not make the list, all of the artist that you list as unknowns were extremely influential to artists on the music industry.

Without Little Richard, he was highly influential in taking R&B music in the 50s and turning it into Rock and Roll. Without him, the industry would be completely different. Without Run DMC, there would be no Black Eyed Peas, because they, along with Aerosmith, brought rap music to mainstream media. Without Run DMC, the rap industry as well as the rock industry would not exist. All of those hip hop rock bands, such as Korn and Linkin Park would not exist. N.W.A, without them all of that "gangter" rap (which I don't mind not existing, but it is a point of view that I guess needed to be heard, although truthfully their first album was actually more socially positive than there future efforts) would not exist, the rap industry would be different without them, due to N.W.A, the industry started to accept rap music that came from places other than New York. Rush, a Canadian band, influenced progressive, metal, and alternative rock, Cream influenced rock and jazz, because it spawned Eric Clapton, rock, and Ginger Baker, a jazz drummer. R.E.M influenced college rock bands and the alternative rock music scene, Black Sabbath are seen as the inventors of heavy metal, so without them no heavy metal scene, no alternative music scene the way it exist today with the D drop tuning of the guitar strings due to Tony Iommi, the guitar player losing his finger in a work related accident, and having to tune his guitar down so he could play without as much pain. The Clash, Talking Heads, Iggy and the Stooges influenced punk, alternative rock and pop music . Steely Dan...jazz, r&b, funk...Judas Priest...metal, The Who...rock, Curtis Mayfield...R&B. Without Sly & The Family Stone, rock, r&b, rap ...there would be no Prince, as he exist today.

This list is a list of the Greatest Artist of All Time not a list of Greatest Artist Today and every one of the artist were BIG in their day. Some of them are still touing today to sold out crowds. Just because you have never heard of them does not diminish their influence on the industry.

I am sure that the people that you named as being left of the list would not hesitate to say that all of those people that you listed as unknowns deserve to be on the list.

On another note it is unfortunate that Celine was left of the Great Female Artist of All Time. She has one of the best voices in the industry that I have ever heard; this is coming from someone who knew who she was from her first US release, which I did like, but stopped listening to her music after that, and only recently took my music genre snobbishness down a notch and bought her music. Even when I didn't care for her music, I would in no way say that she was a terrible singer I'm not deaf. I was, as I stated, a music genre snob). I defintely have seen list and wondered why certain artist were either ranked as high or low as they were or why they were left off or ranked at all.

I challenge you to expand your musical knowledge and listen to some of these bands, and then listen to other bands that came after them, the artists that have recently come out, and hear the influence that these "unknown" artist have had on the bands.

I'll be the first person to defend artists who have made an enormous impact on the music industry (some of my favorites are Carole King, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Chicago, The Temptations, Boston, and Dionne Warwick, and The Supremes). But when you look at the list which includes people like Justin Timberlake, LL Cool J, and GreenDay, you cannot help but to criticize the list for being ridiculously biased toward current artists. When I hear the word

"greatest" I think of a long period of time....not 20 years. For example, Beyonce is listed above Whitney Houston, when Houston undoubtedly inspired her. It's a dumb list, and not for the obvious reason that so many other users have pointed out... :whistling:

Of course it is a dumb list. Most of those list are dumb, but they are still entertaining to watch :-D . I was only responding to the poster saying that some of the artist on the list who they felt were unknown didn't deserve to be on the list; mainly because they did not know who the people were. I wanted to relay to the poster that the artist they listed as unknowns had major impacts on the industry as a whole; if those artist would not have existed, the industry would not exist as it does today. It also maybe a little grandiose to say, but when it comes to some of the artist listed the world the way we know it today may not exist in the same way either. Those artist were not just merely playing music...they were actually innovators.

The poster clearly stated that the list should be comprised of current artist. Most current artist are just that current and do not extend beyond that. There have been a few artist who immediately change the face the music industry, such as when Nirvana came out. That pretty much helped to wipe out the glam metal scene on the charts. I mean the person actually said that Shakira should be on the list  . Puhlease. She might do a mean job of shaking her booty to the music, but she in no way should be anywhere near a Greatest Artists of All Time List...ever. Yeah, Beyonce is clearly inspired by the following artists/group:

1)Tina Turner

2)Diana Ross & The Supremes

3)Whitney Houston

Wrap those those artist up, put them in a microwave and you've got Beyonce stew.

VH1 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time – VH1 is getting blasted and rightfully so after unveiling their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. The network is getting slammed by fans and music experts out there for leaving out some great talents out of the list and for putting people who did little for the music industry in the the top 100.

Believe it or not R. Kelly who is a real legend (the man produced and wrote masterpieces for many artists) and Usher, Janet Jackson, Frank Sinatra, The Supremes and Sam Cooke did not make it on VH1 “100 Greatest Artists Of All Time” list and not a single Latin musician made the cut.

So who did the awful list?

Apparently the names of the artists were chosen by a panel of music experts and musicians including; Alicia Keys, Ozzy Osbourne, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Iggy Pop, Nas, Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Michael Diamond (Beastie Boys), Daryl Hall, John Oates, Gene Simmons (KISS), Adam Levine (Maroon Five), 50 Cent, Nelly Furtado, Mandy Moore, Carrie Underwood, and Adam Clayton (U2) which explain why the compilation was so poorly done.

It is normal that Chris Brown, Rihanna, Ciara, The Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber were not on the list but leaving out talents like Rick James, Etta James, Celine Dion, Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, The Temptations and Nat King Cole is just plain ridiculous.[/b]

http://www.rnbmusicblog.com/vh1-100-greate...comment-page-3/

I completely agree. This list is crap and ridiculous. There was no reason at all for Céline to not be on this list. Now learning who was on this panel of "music experts" should tell us why...
