i am not surprised. Her videoclips aren't on air as much as they used to plus she had only 1 real videoclip for TC, they wouldn't play ESNRQ nor I, so let's see Celine had 2 clips that could be on air since 2004.

Funny... I had VH1 on here last week (for about 15 minutes, and the first time in 4-5 years) and during the commercial there was a short "VH1 hits" montage, and ANDHC was part of it...

That's crazy. It doesn't matter if she doesn't have a videoclip on air these days. Tell me when was the last time Sly & The Family Stone released a videoclip.

 

Even if we don't care about lists, Celine should be there. Celine IS part of music history. Even the haters have to acknowledge that.

And Seb this is the 3ed VH1 list she missed: the 1st version of this list in 1998, last year's 100 greatest FEMALE artists list, and now this one.

the thing with celine is that she no longer wants to top the charts. In that case, like Streisand for example, you start making quality music that will stand the test of time and become standards. She doesn't even want to do that. I would still buy anything she releases, but for God's sake work on your musical legacy. She has the potential to be an Ella Fitzgerald + a Barbra Streisand combined. Such a shame really...Nothing she did this decade can be called a standard. With a voice like hers can you imagine the endless possibilities?

 

Plus i would love for her to work on her diction, enunciation be it in english or french. That is an area where JJG helped her immensely.

It's quite amusing though as clearly the person who makes these lists up, and not just VH1 lists, must think tens of millions of people around the world are wrong about Celine.

 

Music sales, high tour attendances and Vegas sell outs are all still happening for Celine after 25 years in showbiz but some little twerp in a VH1 office doesn't think she's cool enough to be considered "great."

Speaking of Mariah, she has the most #1's of any solo artist in the US...and yet, Justin Timberlake is above her. Anyway, these stupid lists mean nothing to me. On Sept. 6 VH1 will begin airing what's bound to become another addictive countdown special: VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. The list was determined by hundreds of musicians and music experts, many of whom appear on the show.

Truth of the matter is you don’t earn yourself prestige with diapers, babies and family talk. It’s mostly disheartening to see even VH1 abandoning her. After C.Tylor left Billboard, Larry King quitting in 2011 and Perez Hilton boycotting Sony Music artist, she has NO ONE to promote her on the web. Not one music critic. The only thing she can do is let the music speak. But wait, music, which music!? There was music to her? I hardly can remember. She does all her best to let ME forget.

If I saw it right 12 years ago 1998 when she had her peak she wasn't at the list either. (correct me if I'm wrong). I think she should be on the list because there are artist on that list who can never be higher than Céline, but well who cares, she sells she makes her fans happy most of the time if this is it, this is it.

well it would be nice if some celine fans could post factual posts about why celine should be on the list. i will no longer post on that topic cause i felt like i was talking to people who know nothing of celine since 1998. each artist's stan has tried to demean her, and that is in a way her own fault because she goes around saying each diva is better than her, when in fact they are not, and then it becomes impossible to discuss with other divas' fans. and i dont care anymore to discuss with anyone who doesn't want to understand facts. but without saying her music is bad or good... Céline won so many big awards; Oscars, Grammy's etc, she set so many records (with FIY, MHWGO, Vegas etc) and she is one of the world's biggest selling artist... how come a singer like that isn't on this list?!

like other said; a lot of names don't even ring a bell! all in all a list like this is soooo subjective! but it pains me that a huge singer like Céline is neglected!

I would suggest that up to, and including, "A New Day Has Come" Celine was still seen as relevant and "cool" in the eyes of the popular music world.

 

Since her decision, and it was HER decision, to go to Vegas she's moved into legend status and as such her music is no longer important or, sadly, relevant. Look back at the "Taking Chances" promo tour - everywhere she went she was being honoured with some "lifetime achievement" or "outstanding merit" award - no-one was really interested in her new album and single. Celine herself contributed to this.

 

As Seb said Celine is more interested these days in talking about babies, diapers and being a Mum. That's totally fine and completely understandable. It's been this way since 2002 and it's about to continue big time!!

 

Sadly though for those of us who care for Celine's place is music history and, frankly not just history, more so her place currently on the music scene it's a sad state of affairs for her at the moment.

 

For so long all that mattered to Rene and Celine was cementing her place in the record books at THE female singer. Keep going the way they are or have been for a while now and it looks like all their hard work will have been in vain.
