Javito Posted August 8, 2010 at 11:43 PM Posted August 8, 2010 at 11:43 PM Hey I'm surprised nobody posted something about this, but 2010 marks 20 years of Céline with the Sony Music family! If I'm not wrong, she signed a contract in 1987 with CBS Canada for her Incognito album, but then in 1990, after the success of that album, she signed a whole new contract with the newborn Sony Music record label, for the Unison album, and this time for an international projection I'm slightly amazed that nobody has commented on this, nor we've heard anything special from Sony Music, and that worries me . I would like to ask you, if you think that Sony Music should make something special before the end of this year, for the female singer that has given them more money in their history. I think our girl deserves something, call it a hommage or a special release. Don't you think? I hope Sony Music realizes about this and move their butts for this living legend... though I'm afraid they would dare not to do anything for this 20th anniversary How could we ask them to remember this? Perhaps Darren can help with this? Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
celine-rc Posted August 8, 2010 at 11:59 PM Posted August 8, 2010 at 11:59 PM I know this might sound real sad but I don't really think they care. I mean, I'm sure a few people do like Tommy Mottola but in general, doesn't a big compagny like Sony only really care about money? But, I do agree that it is something that they should sort of celebrate. I don't think many artists stay that long with one compagny, since most artists don't even have a career that can last. It's true, Céline is a living legend. I hope Sony will realize and do something soon. Quote http://images.lpcdn.ca/435x290/201103/17/305341.jpg Merci Céline pour ces deux soirées inoubliables que j'ai passées à tes côtés. Je ne les oublierais jamais. J't'adore Céline. Merci. <3
Javito Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:10 AM Author Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:10 AM Shame on them if they don't do anything about this She has done SO MUCH for them, she has given them many of the greatest sales they've ever seen in their lives! Shame on them if they don't pay tribute to her. And if I were on René's shoes, I would be annoyed honestly Who knows if they have realized about this in Sony Music Canada/US, who knows if they have not. But I really hope they have some kind of gesture towars her. They can't forget so easily 20 years of success, no matter how semi-retired/pregnant Céline is today, and I, as a fan, will write them about this. If they have stupidly forgotten, we can brush up their $$$ minds, if that's all what they care about in their industry. Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
celine-rc Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:13 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:13 AM I agree 100% and really do encourage you to write to them. I mean, it's not because she's temporarely semi-retired and probably very pregnant, that they shouldn't do something for her. She has done a lot for them so isn't it their turn to do something for her? Quote http://images.lpcdn.ca/435x290/201103/17/305341.jpg Merci Céline pour ces deux soirées inoubliables que j'ai passées à tes côtés. Je ne les oublierais jamais. J't'adore Céline. Merci. <3
Javito Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:25 AM Author Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:25 AM I agree 100% and really do encourage you to write to them. I mean, it's not because she's temporarely semi-retired and probably very pregnant, that they shouldn't do something for her. She has done a lot for them so isn't it their turn to do something for her? Even more when they've been releasing cheap re-releases and boxsets of LTAL/ANDHC FIY/LTAL/ANDHC and many dozens that I don't remember every year since 2004, sometimes even twice of them per year. If they should release something like that is NOW, but with something special or "new" if they care enough. Perhaps is the perfect ocassion for The Collector's Series Vol. TWO Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
celine-rc Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:28 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:28 AM It's true. They're doing so many re-releases like they did with D'eux last December, My Love, I mean, there's practically no new material. They really should come out with The Collector's series Volume two since it's been like ten years since they came out with the first one. They are cheep. Belle Céline Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:44 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:44 AM They probably don't care, it's not a big deal to them would be my guess. Quote “There’s nothing I love more than the romance of a night in the theater.”http://i39.tinypic.com/ws0due.png
celine-rc Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:48 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 12:48 AM That's what I figure but it would still be nice for them to do something. Little_Jay Posted August 9, 2010 at 01:07 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 01:07 AM Celine deserves something! They made a lot of money from her and should do something special to express their gratitude. Quote http://a.imageshack.us/img829/3193/sarahbrightman.jpg
celine-rc Posted August 9, 2010 at 01:20 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 01:20 AM The only thing I've been wondering, is what could they do exactly? The last thing we need is another damn compilation with songs that have been on 3 other albums and every live DVD. There was already a topic similiar to this that where there were a million things mentioned that SHOULD be released, but haven't. How about something new, rather than Volume 2, which looking in the last ten years would only include.....ANDHC, IDAN, TTWII, and TC. A four song CD is not worth it for me. Quote
Matias Posted August 9, 2010 at 01:43 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 01:43 AM She should change record label...since 1999 Sony forgot about Celine and proper publicity stunts Quote http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_maic6m257V1rbfceqo2_250.gif"No no, put it back..."

Matias Posted August 9, 2010 at 03:51 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 03:51 AM Well looking back the single selection, lack of videos, and "greatest hits" cd's every 2 years...well WE ALL KNOW there are soooo many things that never were published!!! (Olympia concert VHS-DVD) or a LTAL tour (different from ACDS) Soooo many rare tracks... Well the list keeps on and on...but hey! at least we'll have watches! :S Quote http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_maic6m257V1rbfceqo2_250.gif"No no, put it back..."
Julian Posted August 9, 2010 at 07:24 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 07:24 AM Sony care about 20 years Celine....? It's like the queen sending me some chocolate for my 20th birthday. Quote
Davey84 Posted August 9, 2010 at 07:28 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 07:28 AM That would be even more special, as Germany doesn't have a queen! I don't think they'll do anything. a CV2 would be great!! (there are still enough songs they could release; The Best, TSMGO studio version etc) the best way would be a re-release of Unison with the making off, the video clips and the Wintergarden concert, but ce n'était qu'un rêve!! J-Man Posted August 9, 2010 at 07:46 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 07:46 AM Yes Unison 20 is the obvious way to Mark the anniversary but it's clear that ain't gonna be happening now. CSV2 would be nice for us fans if it was in the same style as the old one (I'd: album tracks and alternates) but that release is really about 7 years too late now. But really I think we ain't gonna see any release to Mark these 20 years. Except hopefully a new album. But I do hope that they have at least privately acknowledged this milestone to Celine & Rene, who have indeed given Sony some of their biggest sales since 1990. Tyler1991 Posted August 9, 2010 at 08:21 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 08:21 AM No, it was recorded in 2003. Around November I think. Quote
Javito Posted August 9, 2010 at 09:25 AM Author Posted August 9, 2010 at 09:25 AM Yes Unison 20 is the obvious way to Mark the anniversary but it's clear that ain't gonna be happening now. But I do hope that they have at least privately acknowledged this milestone to Celine & Rene, who have indeed given Sony some of their biggest sales since 1990. Yes John, that should be some way to show their gratitude too, that may have happened from the mouth of Vito Luprano and/or John Doelp, but only doing that would be like "we wank to thank you privately but we won't show our appreciation publicly because we don't care anymore about your career" A special release would be due for this matter, if they care enough. How can they posibly have released so many garbage compilations all these years and don't do anything to commemorate this??? It's just stupid. Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Shaun Posted August 9, 2010 at 09:35 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 09:35 AM How time flies eh!? You know, it's a real shame that Celine's "importance" at Sony appears to have deteriorated. There was a time from her launch up to an including the release of "All The Way..." that she was clearly THE number 1 artist in their catalogue and they would do anything they could to get her music heard and garner more sales for her. If you like, the entire power of the company was behind Celine Dion and her releases. Although I feel "A New Day Has Come" was promoted pretty well by Celine herself it became clear that Sony no longer placed such importance on Celine from this release and it was confirmed with the catastrophic releases of "Goodbye's The Saddest Word" as the last single from that album. Since then, and admittedly Celine and Rene chose to go to Vegas for 5 years, Sony have shown a brutal lack of interest in making Celine's music a success. Lack of interest in singles, videos, sustained promotion beyond release week. It's a sad state of affairs. Of course there are individual Sony branches globally that continue to support her and do their best for her (Sony UK's "Taking Chances" promotion for example was superb - 3 singles releases and over 400,000 albums sold), but the truth is internationally she has been lacking the support of Sony for quite some time. As you rightly say Javito considering all she has given them, it's such a shame. Shamrock_1982 Posted August 9, 2010 at 10:26 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 10:26 AM Shaun I totally agree with what you said, and yes a certain branch of Sony Music ( UK ) is the only branch of the company that really tries and cares about Celine's career as far as I can see... its just very unfortunate and sad that the two main branches who get the final say, and make the choices in her career, don't always make the right ones, and really don't get behind her career or support her in the same way. All they seem to care about is money, not the artist... which is sad, maybe harsh, but very true... I honestly think that if Sony UK had the final say, or were included more in these final decisions regarding her career, we would not be complaining today! Darren. Quote
J-Man Posted August 9, 2010 at 10:45 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 10:45 AM Shaun you are so right in your comments. Once again GTSW is mentioned as the point in her career when the train went off the tracks concerning her and Sony. Why did that song ever have to be released. pat200 Posted August 9, 2010 at 10:58 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 10:58 AM if anyone is expecting something to mark celine's 20th anniversary with sony, you must be dreaming then unfortunately. but, it is a nice dream though. Quote
Davey84 Posted August 9, 2010 at 11:05 AM Posted August 9, 2010 at 11:05 AM true Darren, but I want to add that it was Sony UK who decided to cancel the releases of the IDAN and TC singles! Shaun you are so right in your comments. Once again GTSW is mentioned as the point in her career when the train went off the tracks concerning her and Sony. Why did that song ever have to be released. yeah I still don't understand! Even HYEBIL was a better choice! GTSW could have been the 5th single, but not the 3rd! especially not with songs like RIFOY, IS, SFL and WTWOLYR! funny that with a song called 'goodbye's the saddest word', céline said goodbye to her promotional carreer!
