Yangedd Posted August 28, 2010 at 10:59 PM Posted August 28, 2010 at 10:59 PM She keeps on performing her older songs simply because she loves to sing them. I know she doesn't sing too much of the newer stuff, but I don't mind. I just love to hear her live. Derek F. Posted September 3, 2010 at 03:39 AM Author Posted September 3, 2010 at 03:39 AM Hey everyone! Hope everyone is doin' well! Paul Grein at Yahoo! Music was great enough to again provide answers to questions asked about Celine this week, including mine. Here is the info given: Music Blogs > Chart Watch > Week Ending Aug. 29, 2010: Life's Ups & Downs Posted Wed Sep 1, 2010 4:33pm PDT by Paul Grein in Chart Watch Max Lala - Wed Sep 1, 2010 5:27pm PDT Paul, could you give us the digital numbers for these Celine Dion songs: I'm Your Angel That's The Way It Is I Drove All Night Derek F - Wed Sep 1, 2010 5:29pm PDT Paul, Hi, I love your Chart Watch columns and I love Celine Dion, so I would like to get your opinion on my 3 questions this week please: What do you think is Celine's best vocal performance in a song? Who would you like to see Celine realistically record a duet with? What do you believe is Celine's most impressive Chart/sales achievement is so far? Looking forward to your answers! Thank you! Paul Grein - Wed Sep 1, 2010 6:58pm PDT I am back with some more information. As always, credit to Nielsen/SoundScan, which brought music information to unprecedented levels of accuracy and transparency. Max Lala asked about three Celine Dion songs. Celine's solo version of I'm Your Angel is up to 42K. The duet with R. Kelly is up to 54K. That's The Way It Is is up to 154K. I Drove All Night is up to 164K. Derek F. asked what I think Celine's best vocal performance is. My favorite record of hers is Because You Loved Me, a great song (by Diane Warren) and a solid record all around. Her most impressive sales/chart achievement is being one of only two female artists with two albums at or above the 9 million mark on Nielsen/SoundScan's running list of the best-selling albums in its history. (The other is Britney Spears.) But her most lasting achievement will be My Heart Will Go On, one of the most successful pieces of movie music ever. Everything was a smash: the song, the soundtrack, the movie, Celine's album. A home-run. I don't remember Celine recording a solo version of "I'm Your Angel", but it was great to get Paul's responses! Looks like Celine song's sell very healthy in today's digital market regarding songs and singles. I also loved Paul's answers to my questions, especially regarding "My Heart Will Go On"! He is a great source of info and has been in the music biz for years and years. God Bless! Quote
RLAAMJR. Posted September 5, 2010 at 05:21 AM Posted September 5, 2010 at 05:21 AM You guys may be right of not buying her singles again. But come to think of it. If we don't, she will not be on top. She won't have a better chance of breaking records. How can we truly defend with certainty that's she's the best-selling female singer of all time if we don't do it? I may have less Celine stuff but i do buy twice or thrice or more. I've bought FIY album more than 5 times already. The last one was buying last year. I gave it to some friends who like Celine, as gifts. To the one who created the thread., can you also ask the record sales for "It's All Coming Back To Me Now"? Quote
Davey84 Posted September 5, 2010 at 10:34 AM Posted September 5, 2010 at 10:34 AM HMM maybe he mixed up The Prayer with Andrea Borcelli she doesn't have a solo version of IYA! You can't defend it with certainty because its not true - she isn't the best-selling female artist of all-time, Madonna is. Also, Celine's single sales are quite paltry compared to her album sales - she's never been a big singles seller. Britney Spears in 10 years has sold more singles than Celine in 30 years for e.g. Celine has sold around 45m singles. Also, Its All Coming Back To Me Now has been asked previously, and Paul Grein gave sales of 291k Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
manolo19 Posted September 5, 2010 at 12:46 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 12:46 PM Madonna? Based on what, Guinness!? Worldwide sales are hard to track, but please don't underestimate Celine and assume she is not the best selling Female artist , because she just might be , but we will never truly know! Quote
wjd Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:05 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:05 PM No, based on the fact I spent 3 years researching figures for the top 150 selling artists in the world, and can provide you with country-by-country breakdowns proving that Madonna is #1. I dislike this debate so much. I love Celine with all my heart, and I detest Madonna - but Celine isn't #1 Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
Davey84 Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:05 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:05 PM not to redo the whole fight, but Madonna's sales aren't accurate either... most of her pre 90ies albums are estimates! So we wont ever know for sure! wjd Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:15 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:15 PM No they aren't estimates - no more so than what Celine's are. The only difference between the two is that for Celine, we have concrete hard sales, thanks to agencies such as Soundscan, Music Week and more. With Madonna we have OFFICIAL press releases from her label, coupled with certifications from the likes of the RIAA, RIAJ, CRIA, BPI, ARIA and more. And worldwide sales are shipments anyway. Davey84 Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:20 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 01:20 PM an official press release... wow! that's the whole truth! You can't ever believe those things... Universal or Sony even wrote Mariah Carey sold over 200 million in an official press release... I know nothing about Madonna's certifications, but I do know Céline is undercertified... anyway Madonna's sales should be discussed here: http://www.celinedionforum.com/index.php?s...282&st=1020 I found this at a fan's blog: De 1981 à 2010 Celine Dion a vendu : ALBUMS + LIVES + COMPILATIONS/BEST OF : 167.532.000. pat200 Posted September 5, 2010 at 03:05 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 03:05 PM i have to agree with wayne. i have been compiling charts on top females for the last 12 years. i have come upon great work from many many chart experts like mjd just to name one. madonna's numbers are higher than celine. now considering albums, i am pretty sure sony counts the titanic ost as a celine album. in that case, celine sold more albums (few millions only) but still lags when singles are added. madonna's singles sales are just mind boggling. Quote
Davey84 Posted September 5, 2010 at 03:15 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 03:15 PM it's actually not that weird, as you look at all the different formats Madonna still has; different singles of one song, 7", 12" etc etc. her singles are always full of mixes and stuff, something céline's singles lack! so it's not weird that if you have a large fanbase, and they buy all of thise formats, you sell a lot it If Céline would still put out vynil and had interesting physical singles, she could sell a lot more then she is now (even though that's still a lot too) Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
wjd Posted September 5, 2010 at 03:41 PM Posted September 5, 2010 at 03:41 PM I agree. Its one area that Celine just never capitalised on, and that baffles me. She was the biggest star of the 90's, and her star only grew into legendary status during the 00's - Madonna sold tens of millions of singles per decade for three decades, whereas Celine has suddenly stopped. What I want almost as much as a massive album is for Celine to get a top 3 single - how amazing would that be? I also believe that Madonna is the number 1 best-selling female artist of all time. And if she isn't, I'd say Nana Mouskouri might be. But if we based it only in number of albums sold, I believe that Madonna and Celine are in a close fight. I have also spend a lot of time researching who has more number of albums sold. I forgot though if it was Madonna or Celine. But the good thing is that Celine is the best-selling French artist of all time. She owns the top 2 best selling french albums of all time too (perhaps 3). Thank you for the information about my favorite song "IACBTMN". Celine also has a chance to hold the title for "best selling holiday album of all time" if we continue to buy her "THese Are Special Times" album. So let us all continue to buy, either albums or singles. Quote

What I want almost as much as a massive album is for Celine to get a top 3 single - how amazing would that be? I think that's because Sony always promoted her as an album artist, not a single artist... plus the fact that her singles are not that interesting (with remixes, demo's, unreleased songs etc) and of course because they chose the wrong songs as singles what is also very weird, is the fact that most of her singles were not really released in the USA or Canada! PQTME wasn't a real single in Canada, which is so weird, and most of her english songs weren't even real singles in the USA... I really don't get that from Sony's part! and I think if Céline didn't make it in the top 3 singles with MHWGO, she'll never get one:( Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
wjd Posted September 6, 2010 at 11:34 AM Posted September 6, 2010 at 11:34 AM What made me fall in love with Celine was her A New Day special in 2002; prior to that, I appreciated her, owned a couple of albums. Then I saw that and just fell for her, silly as it seems. I think it was the look, the voice, and the sound - it all was very fresh for me. Celine's tone and power in 2002 were sensational. Going to Vegas literally did destroy her voice as far as I'm concerned. Back in 2002, she went top 10/top 30 with her singles, without promoting them a whole lot. A featuring performance on the UK's biggest show (X Factor) got her a top 40 position, just, with Taking Chances. I think the reason Celine doesn't sell singles anymore is a whole multitude of factors, her voice being one of them. Vegas voice is a curse Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
Davey84 Posted September 6, 2010 at 11:54 AM Posted September 6, 2010 at 11:54 AM no, I don't agree with that. yes Vegas made her go into oblivion and it did some harm to her voice... but on the TC she sounds stronger than ever! One of the reasons why TC wasn't a bit hit, is because Sony UK decided to AGAIN cancel the supposted single! TC was to be a physical single and they pulled it back... just like they did with IDAN in 2003, another stupid mistake! Released A and EOM after that wasn't much help either Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
wjd Posted September 6, 2010 at 12:16 PM Posted September 6, 2010 at 12:16 PM Yes cancelling the physical single didn't help, but downloads control the chart and have done since 2005. The best-selling non-charity physical singles sell less than 5,000 copies nowadays in the UK (back in 2007, around 11k) so it had the potential to be a bigger hit, but I don't think it would've done much better Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
