Why are there always anti-MHWGO posts here?

It is definitely a classic, and I enjoyed hearing it live...but I rarely visit it when listening to her music. If I do, I usually skip to the last 3rd of the song...but maybe that’s just me and potential music ADHD.

I’m not sure where the unfavorable view of MHWGO comes from **** i.e. why it is so much more maligned than I Will Always Love You. Is it because it was played so much more on the radio at the time and in the theatre that people grew tired? Is it too sentimental, or is the film too sentimental?

It has grown to be seen a lot more favorably in recent years due to its being applied to memes/twitter/tiktok. As for Celine’s point of view, any song that becomes that successful is a double edged sword—-she has to sing it for the rest of her life whether she likes it or not.

***obviously it is still a very very loved song!

It's unfair that this boring cheesy song is known as Celine's greatest hit. She has many better songs that most people aren't aware of. So they tend to think that she's all about these boring ballads. It's a shame.

I seem to be one of few that still to this day hasn't got tired of this song. I think it's as good now as I did the first time. It is my alltime greatest song.

Sure I can understand the reason for the hate. But at the same time to be really big you almost must have THE signature song. I think without MHWGO she wouldn't be near as big as she is today. If it wasn't for MHWGO Celine would probably only be known as a french/english singer who sings good. And people would probably have heard a couple of songs but not remember the titles.

Although it is a little annoying that people refer to Celine as "Titanic" or something similar.

Isn't it pretty common among the die hard fans to not like the hits and get annoyed that the general public isn't aware of the "better" non hit songs. At least that's my understanding when talking to people who likes other artists and I mention a hit and they go "yuk I hate that song this or that one is sooo much better" and they mention a song I've never heard of.

That's the double-edged sword, popularity for the song but also you get pigeon-holed.

Although, I wonder perhaps if she didn't have Titanic at the end of the 90s if she wouldn't have taken her hiatus and thus could've produced a couple more smash albums which, then, could have made her still as big as she did today. I mean, would LTAL have sold as much were it not for Titanic? To me, the album didn't have good single material other than Tell Him and maaaybe The Reason....I mean, we know Sony's choices for singles would have been probably those anyway.

If she didn’t turned down “I don’t want to miss a thing” maybe it will be part of LTAL Album. And “There You’ll Be”. She’s a Soundtrack Queen Edited by jpatdeleon09

If Titanic and LTAL had not happened, the career break would most likely have occurred between 1998 and the year 2000. In other words, the return would occur in the midst of the music industry crisis. Celine's timing was perfect and we got fabulous albums in that period that sold millions and millions.

Exactly. I remember she said that they were planning to have the break at the end of 1997 but then Titanic happened and she was “forced” to keep going and go on a world tour. Thank god for Titanic, otherwise we wouldn’t have got SSDA and TAST albums. As well as Divas Live and other amazing things.

LTAL is great album. US (should have been a single ) , TR, MTG, WITL, LIOTW, WINY, IMMORTALITY are amazing songs. FIY is her best English album and LTAL was a great and more mature follow up. And MHWGO made her a Diva legend.

Yes, it would be interesting to see what her

career would have been without MHWGO.

I fully agree with you. To me, LTAL is probably her second best English album (after FIY obviously).

I presume she had a contract to finish with Sony.

Didn't know that history. Then I agree with you!

Yeah I agree with LTAL album. I think Immortality could've worked also. The album is great overall but as you said it didn't have that great singles material besides MHWGO. The movie must've helped a lot I mean besides Sonys marketing, with the exposure in the movie and the soundtrack the marketing was huge. If the album got good PR it probably have sold well but still not near what it did.

I also wonder how the hiatus would've affected her career without MHWGO. She took the hiatus when she was on top so she had a lot of hype already when she came back and from memory I don't remember ANDHC was played that much on the radio in Sweden. I feel much of the sales came from the hype she carried from LTAL.

I think ANDHC is her best single to date since MHWGO.

Why can't she cover those songs.....:( I would be really interested to hear how "There You'll Be" would've sounded with Celine and her style of singing. :)

Imagine those songs with Scott’s orchestral arrangements. It would be beautiful. That’s why it makes me sad that she turned down those songs

Enough with the medleys! She should sing her songs in full.

True!

I'm curious to know, is there more big songs that Celine has turned down?
