How can you compare Celine Dion's catalogue with Paul McCartney's? Silly person. Celine doesn't have a single song in her catalogue that doesn't require a slight belt, its full on belting most of the time.

 

I agree that she deserves some slack, but I'm disappointed that a a large portion of the show is mimed.

The guy next to me, on the second night, was very impressed. It was interesting because he was there with his wife. If it wasn't for the fact that he wa slooking at the program and asked the wife a couple questions that she knew the answer to, I would have thought that he was the one who drug her along, lol. You can hear him before MHWGO yelling "we will be back" about three times and then one time he says "we'll definitely be back at least three more times" lol and then he starts yelling "go get it celine" "come on baby" lmao. It was hilarious.

 

I was blown away with all the songs. WDMHBN was really neat. All the visuals and stuff. I loved how the orchestra gave that song a different sound. The only visual that disappointe dme was BATB. That one looked a bit cheap.

I've decided to try and do some digital mastering on the 2nd night bootleg - I've done some research on noise reduction, live mastering and all sorts of stuff like this in Adobe Audition, and it seems fairly easy. If I get anything worth sharing, I will. But I'm no pro - so it'll just be playing a bit around. :-)

 

I'd really like to do some work to make Céline's voice stand out, and also make the orchestra more clear, as I feel in the recording, that we don't get a sense of how grand it all is with the orchestra there. Also some standard noise reduction and eliminating echo from the concert hall, if possible.

It all sounds rather extensive, doesn't it?!

For everyone who's moaning about my lipping comment - If you actually read my posts I said I didn't want a discussion about lipping because we all know she does it. All I said was compare the 15th and the 16th show yourself and unless your delusional or in denial about Celine miming (which a lot of people are) then you will notice just how much she mimes. I will always buy her records but I doubt I would pay to fly half way around the world to see someone lipping.

 

And who ever mention that she's been singing for 30 years, cut her some slack - Paul McCartney has been singing for nearly 60 years and never mimes at concerts so age has nothing to do with it. I would much rather hear her attempt to hit certain notes and miss than hear her mime.

 

As far as I'm concerned, end of discussion. I still love her and think she's amazing, but very deceitful.

You know I just really really get irritated by some of the stuff here. How can you lose respect for her? Tell me how can you? The women has sung professionally for 30 years not 1 not 5 but 30. She has pushed herself to limits not many of us woud do ourselves because she wants not only to please her fans the best she can, but still live out her dreams. Yes hitting f5's or d ^'s every night is tough, so she might have a lil help but to say almost 95% of the time is really stinking annoying and ridiculous. Everyone was bown away by her performance and instead of praising the fantastic job VOCALLY and ARTISTICALLY that this show is, we are like little roaches nit picking at every little crumb and of course doubting that celine can't sing high notes live and have them sound exctly the same many nights in a row. I guess too that all opera and broadway singers lip too cause it wouldn't be possible for them to hit the notes required of them several days in a row as well. Maybe the problem are the die hard fans... I never know if seriosly she lips in this kind of shows.., but please, if she does, like you said... what I don't understand it's that you support that decision because you prefer to fool yourself hearing a F***ing high note prerecorded.... I think that there is no other worst thing for a real singer to do a lip-synch... the fans that want to hear the high notes are really forcing Celine to fake her own performances... I personally think it's a bit shameful and have lost lots of respect for her after doing the whole lipping thing again. I wish one of the fans at the concert would have the balls to shout 'sing live' after she mimed TPOL - that would make my day.

Its not like she's pushing play and that we are listening to her CD (like britney does). She records playbacks for the show, for us. A show is meant to entertain people, and thats exactly what she does. I believe that preserving her voice for future albums and live tv appearances for millions of people to listen and watch is the best thing to do.

What would you rather have, her singing wonderful on some cover songs or the robot voice through the so called "much needed" songs that the show just has to have.

 

We need to remember Celine has a lot on her plate right now,

She's a mother to twin boys that are just 6 months old and she is still breastfeeding so her energy's gone but yet she's on the stage as usual giving 110%. I doubt she wants to be jumping or running through or even trying to sing more up tempo songs, not to mention she's probably tired of singing them. She placed in the show the have to have (POL, IACBTMN, BYLM, ABM, MHWGO) can you not be happy and just listen to her sing.

 

Everyone is entitled to an opinion that's what makes us all different but come on guys why are we all here?

That's because My Love was so special Live... ...

If Céline does lipsynch because she wants to preserve her voice, first of all she should have never began this Vegas adventure the first time with AND. She shouldn't have made the marathonian schedule of 723 shows in 5 years. That damaged her voice since 2004. Because I don't know if you realize, but Céline entered the colosseum with a voice in 2003, and exited it in 2007 with a different one. She realised her voice wasn't the same, but it was late. Her voice evolved.

 

Now her voice sounds good, yes, but its still the voice that changed during A New Day. It's not the voice of 2002. But if the previous experience wasn't enough, here we have her again, in Vegas. And maybe for 5 more years. Yes, the quantity of shows can't be compared, but can't she give her voice a rest and stop giving concerts as if she was obliged to do it?.

 

How are you surprised if she lipsynchs? If she didn't do that, her voice would be now totally ruined after 723 + 132 concerts full of high notes in 7 years

 

Btw, I never cared much about this lipsynch discussion, as long as she's doing that to preserve her voice for the recording studio and special performances in TV or concerts. Don't we want to have many more Celine Dion albums in the future? I don't see that's wrong

Well you realize she is getting older. Naturally of course her voice is going to change. It's not damaged, cause if it was we would have a whitney houston problem and she would most defintely have lost her clear powerfu instrument. I think what we heard the first time during vegas was fatigue and most definitely a bit of lack of rest. But by far it is not damaged as she hass matured and the voice to me sounds alot better than how it was before she came into vegas in 03 anyway

From the previews I am getting in the software, it sounds AMAZING. Not CD quality (because of the crowd and all that stuff), but Céline's voice is wonderful! So much clearer.

As someone who's not delusional about her lipping and who attended both shows in person, the experience wasn't one bit disappointing knowing she probably lipped some songs (well not probably). Honestly, the first night was great because she didn't use any playback that we've all heard a million times, so you couldn't tell what was lipped, it was great. The second night you started to recognize the parts that sounded exactly the same, but there's a lot more going on than just hearing her sing. There's tons of visuals and the whole experience combined with the stage, the screens, her presence, her voice, the orchestra is what makes for an amazing time. If Celine was standing in a white room in a bathrobe and lipped some songs then it would really be a joke, but there's so much going on you don't even care or notice. Some people here don't think it's worth it to see the show because she lips some songs, but you should take it from someone who actually attended the shows. She does lip, but you aren't giving any credit to what she actually does sing live and the experience as a whole. And quite frankly all the playback tracks sound better than any other previous playback track she's ever used. Her voice sounds freaking amazing now whether it's a playback track or live

In my case... I have never compared two performances to know if she lips or not... I got better things to do... but I have read that in this forum, where there is people who do it.. and the only thing that I was trying to say it's that I cannot understand why you prefer a lip and not a different version of the song sang LIVE with the emotions within and adapted to the particular voice status that days... somedays she would do POL with the high high notes... and maybe other shows she does with lower ones.. and in both she is going to sound great... and she is going to preserve her voice too... I don't doubt of the lady, she doesn't have to prove anything, all we know she has the best voice... and because of that I want to hear it LIVE, with all the lights and shadows... with all the special nuances of the night that I go to see her... not only super high notes that sounds perfect, because I know she did that note and she can do it whenever she wants... but she is not doing it in that moment... so I prefer a whole live show without some of that notes if this is going to break his voice...

I have to say something...Celine has always been someone who has been torn apart by the media. But ever since the premiere, I've kept a close look at all of the articles pouring out in response to her show. She is getting career-best reviews. It's insane! And some of them are from very respected critics. This show is so different for her, it is total class and sophistication.

 

On top of that is the continued raves about her fashion which started at the Oscars and has continued to her new dresses for the residency. I've never seen such positivity in the media for Celine. I hope it's a sign of a new era to come
