The Oprah Show with Celine, originally on 2/10/10, is re-airing on Tuesday, March 30th for anyone interested in watching again or catching it for a first time. Wonder if that March 30th date is pure coincidence....?!

i think its the angle at which they shot the video. at the pool table it was more from underneath so it showed the hair as being shorter.

Wow…. Over two months later, I decided to write a review of attending the Oprah show. What a FAIL on my part! I’m sorry out there… Its just that those 3 days were such a whirlwind to me and by pretty much putting my life on hold at the last minute… I am JUST now getting back into the groove of things. Also, once my plane landed in Chicago, my main importance was getting to spend time with my girls-and every last second of it at that. To do more stupid stuff like this in our hotel:

The Thursday after the taping was the day that everyone left- it was so painful. Girls were leaving at many different times during the day and it was forcing us to say goodbye almost 14 different times. When I finally left Thursday night with Jen and Julie to the airport, our taxi waited for us so patiently outside the hotel as we stood there hugging and crying our eyes out saying goodbye to Sarah, Carla, Denelle, Marne, Amber, and Angela [who were all driving back to Missouri that moment we pulled away] We were the last girls left in Chicago. Our cab driver even said to us as we got into the car and made ‘I love you’ signs pulling away… “don’t cry.. you girls are going to make me cry”. So yeah, to say the least, one of the most incredible parts was being reunited with 13 other girls whom most live half a world away. I could NEVER thank Celine enough for bringing me to these wonderful hearts. This friendship is forever.

Right when we got there we already had presents to open from each other. In Omaha, Amber got everyone a yellow rose and pack of tissues... this time, she got everyone a pink rose and tissues.

 

Now, onto the point of the trip.. CELINE

 

I know you all know pretty much EVERY detail now. I haven’t even attempted to make it through 65 pages but I made it through a good bit and my review is just for those who are bored and want to read something!

So on Tuesday morning, mine and Julie’s plane landed in Chicago (we flew together). It was (in my eyes) a BLIZZARD. I’m from the south and only brought flip flops and high heels and its SNOWING! Eventually we all made it to our hotel where we had 3 different rooms. It was the weirdest thing because on the reservation there was a note that said “oprah show” and we were like.. umm how did they know? Then, once we got into the room there was a HUGE brown bag waiting on us to open.. we thought it was from Oprah. I know.. right?? We are retarded. hahah It was 14 roses from Katelyn’s mom. Wishing us happiness and luck. It was just so sweet! heres a video of the moment. As you can imagine, almost every second of everytime was videod or taken a picture of..

 

 

We all got dressed up in our Celine gear and walked to the theatre where the movie would be playing. We waited and waited for what felt like forever! We got this little ticket that said enjoy a free popcorn and drink from Oprah… so you better believe I got it.. it was the only thing Oprah was paying for! Ha

 

I got to meet Tandra and Kimberly for the first time at the theatre who are two beautiful girls inside and out!

 

I learned fast that with 14 of us it felt crowded and packed really fast EVERYWHERE we went but you better believe we started squeezing in at the sign in desk. Like Kerry said, seats were assigned and it felt incredible having all 14 of us almost filling up a whole row. Needless to say, we screamed our heads off. This might have been annoying to the other guests in the movie but in my eyes, it was like we were at a concert again – except this time I was with all my girls! There was a nice family down at the end of our row that just laughed at us the whole time… as we screamed, cried, laughed. The movie was so great that we all just stood there in awe until we were the last ones in the theatre. We got lucky where we sat because there wasn’t a row behind us, just a giant wall … so we were standing and dancing and squeezing each other’s hands the WHOLE time. We were allowed to ask questions so I asked if Oprah has seen the movie and she said yes she already did. So that meant no Oprah and no Celine in the theatre. CHECK.

 

When that was over we all went back to the hotel and vowed to get some sleep for Celine… as much as we all wanted to stay up together and take it all in.

The next morning came and everyone was kind of quiet. I think we were all anticipating the day so very much and couldn’t really wrap our heads around it quite yet. It was so fun popping in and out of all the three rooms saying, “should I wear this or this?” …“do you have the hairspray”… “can I borrow your eyeliner”. When I fell in love with Celine when I was 8, I would have never believed anyone if they told me I would have 13 other best friends loving her with me AND getting ready to see her on Oprah together!

 

We rented a limo to get to the studio. NO , not because we thought we deserved it or wanted to arrive in style. Trust me, that was the LEAST of our worries but it ended up being the cheapest route! It carried up to 14 people for 85 dollars or something stupid cheap like that. So it was soooo cheap for all of us to get to ride together, blaring celine, rope lights, all dressed up, high heels, dresses… 

 

We had asked our producer that was working with us if we would need to arrive early like the email said and she assured us not- that there were reserved seats and we would surely all be able to sit together. This was tough because the night before all 14 of us were trying to agree on whether to trust her or go early. I think we finally decided on just going when we got ready whenever that was  Once we got there, there was already a huge line. It was probably 10:30ish so we waited, and waited which ended up being the theme of the day. We were in this tented outside area, not even in the building yet. Once we got through the door they immediately take your coat. Then send you through another line to check your purse. I didn’t take a purse so I just shoved my phone in someone else’s and they sent me upstairs to get seats for my party. This area was the holding area for the audience. It was so funny because when I went upstairs there was a nice old man directing people… it looked like he had worked there for 50 years. He said very routinely, ‘how many in your party’. I replied, “there will be 14” he chuckled and said, ‘okay, how many?’ I said… “14” he looked at me and said, “are you serious?” I just smiled and nodded. He directed me to a wall that was lined with little blue chairs.. and said, “count 14 and sit at the end, its your job when they come in to get them in the right spot”…. YES SIR!  This room was FULL of chairs and you were almost touching knees with the stranger across from you. We were given pieces of paper that explained the rules of the studio and they also had a number at the top. I think I was 89. So I thought well maybe that will be my seat number.. 89isnt too bad. Its not 1, but it isn’t too bad out of 300. The rest of the girls came up and we…..yep you guessed it, we WAITED. Eventually the room was getting so crammed and loud. Hundreds of women just chatting and getting impatient. MANY of the women didn’t even know who the guest was going to be. We got to talk with a really nice family about a foot in front of us about how we all met and she just couldn’t believe it. She wasn’t aware Celine would be on but was pretty psyched when she found out. I think what I love is that everyone on earth is a little bit of a closet Celine fan 

 

It didn’t take long before we 14 were singing Celine karaoke at the top of our lungs in that small holding area. It was hilarious. I believe it was either Tandra or Kim’s suggestion (they were sitting at the end of our 14 I think we started with Taking Chances… then That’s The Way It Is, then we realized everyone was TOTALLY lost and confused. So, we sang My Heart Will Go On so they would realize we were singing Celine songs. Hahah  They even clapped for us! I was sure SOMEONE else in the room would join in, but nope.. it was like a little concert from us 14. Even the nice old man that had worked there for 50 years was leaning on the wall with a couple of other Oprah workers just watching us and smiling. I was honestly waiting for them to tell us to shut up or get out. It was hilarious and uncomfortable all in the same setting. I feel like if some of those guests had daggers, we wouldn’t be here today ha.

 

Our incredible serenading was interrupted by someone on the loud speakers. It was one of the producers saying that she would begin to call specific parties down to the studio. We freaked, we weren’t sure if we were a party or not.. but I’m pretty sure we sat there squeezing each others hands till they were white. We KNEW Celine was in that same exact building RIGHT then. Maybe she even heard us screaming her songs 

Party after party was called. I eventually assumed it was just by the way your tickets were booked. Finally… “Allen part of 14” we jumped up like we were just chosen for the Price Is Right. 14 girls screaming and so excited, I saw a lot of relieved faces in that room because we were leaving.  Others just laughed and smiled, I think its something special when your passion is so deep that it puts a smile on someone else’s face because they are so happy for you.

 

We were taken downstairs into the studio and was shocked at how small it was. They took 8 of us and piled us into a row dead in the middle, then 4 up in a balcony type area, then 2 a couple of rows behind the middle one. We were devastated; the producer said we would surely get to sit together – no worries. Now I know that being there in itself was such an incredible privileged but we had all just envisioned squeezing each others hands the entire time. In the end, some seats were moved around and we all got a little closer to each other, after all it was all about Celine and seeing the show. No time to complain and I mean, why would you.. the countdown to Celine had begun! I was on the very end of a row, sitting beside Brittany Hellmeister. She had pretty much become my partner in crime on tour so it was perfect.

 

Once everyone was in, a producer was warming up the crowd- talking about anything and everything. She asked questions but we weren’t allowed to say Celine’s name because of the Canadian Tenors backstage (incase they heard- they still had no idea) so we called her “C” .. we yelled out “celly dee” which we like to call her but it didn’t catch on. If you asked a question, they made you stand up, speak clearly and into the boom mic. She said this was incase you were asked to do your question on air. So Marne got to tell how she came all the way from Australia, then the producer asked who had seen Celine the most. Marne with 11 I think, then Tandra with 40 something… The producer was BLOWN away.. then Angela stood up with 54 I think. Everyone thought we were INSANE… but also knew already from the holding room how crazy we all were for Celine.

The producer was in mid question and goes to her earpiece… “she’s ready, okay? She’s coming? Okay?’

“Ladies and gentleman…. OPRAH WINFREY” *insert crazy crowd*

Oprah bust through the side doors like she owned the place. Oh wait….. she does.

 

Now I will say that it was sooo difficult being able to tell when we were recording and when we weren’t. It felt like cameras were rolling the entire time and Oprah was acting like it too. But at some points you could tell because she would pause, stare, and then jump into a sentence. She eventually said hello to everyone and chatted a small bit with the front row then she said to a producer who was running the show down with her… “through that door” and pointed my way. I FREAKED, grabbed Britt’s arm and said, I think she’s coming in from back here. I turned and sure enough there was a giant door behind me. Moments later Oprah introduced Celine. When I saw her for the first time I do what I always do…. FREEZE. Agggg I hate that! But she was so beautiful and it was sooo very unreal. It seemed like she was walking so fast and there was a GIANT camera man walking backwards in front of her. (getting the shot) I was so for sure that I was jumping, screaming and maybe even reached for her but then after watching the show, I saw that I stood so still with my hands over my mouth. I guess I was freaking out on the inside. I saw Kerry off to the side. I hadn’t met her yet so I wasn’t sure if that was her or just an audience member then I saw her bounce when Celine came in and I was sure it was a REAL celine fan 

The entire Oprah experience was very intimate. But from where I was sitting, I felt like I was honestly watching it on my tv. It sounded EXACTLY like it to. Like it was coming from tv speakers. There were times where I just had to shake my head to realize Celine freakin Dion was sitting infront of me. And like I said earlier, it was tough to tell when they were filming and when they weren’t. Trust me, we had planned to yell something out or start singing the Omaha song in the middle of a commercial break but a chance never really came because we weren’t sure if they were taping and we definitely didn’t want to get kicked out. Oprah seemed all business and no time for play. She was ready to get in and get out. I think this kind of kept Celine from having a ton of fun with the audience or just chitty chatting. Its hard to remember now, but some of my favorite parts of the show was watching Celine’s face when the two girls skyped with her. She was so sincere. You could tell she was so very moved by what the girls had to say! I love watching Celine’s face when she watches something else! I watched her too when she would glance at the monitor going in and out of commercials when they played parts of her movie. It was like she hadn’t really seen it yet. They played the ‘shoes’ part where she dances and sings with the shoe and she just shook her head like she was embarrassed. Hahaha I think sometimes she doesn’t exactly realize what she does but Gosh that why we LOVE her. Yes she did do the straw bit where she was very confused by a metal straw. That was cute. For the most part I was just steady freakin the whole time. I was staring at Celine then looking back at my girls sitting a couple of rows back. I remember the seats being a bit bouncy and when I looked down our row you could see all 8 of us just sitting there on the edges bouncing up and down quite obviously. We couldn’t sit still! Celine recognized Britt and waved at her from the stage during a commercial break. It was the cutest thing ever. I think she could really tell who the real fans were thanks to the 20 of us that went. I don’t think she has ever had that great of a response and especially at an Oprah show!

 

I was really hoping she would sing ASFY a could of times to get it right but dangit she NAILED it the first time. It was so incredible. She mentioned at the end she was just watching the pictures on the monitor in front of her. If you remember, they were mostly of Rene and RC. I remember thinking, what if she flubbed the lyrics cause she was watching the slideshow. Ahha Oh and thankfully Oprah has strategically placed boxes of tissues about every 4th seat in the floor. It was like she knew I was bound to tear up at some point in the show. Later when we talked to Nick he said he saw how some of us were just crying like babies and others were just bouncing the whole time. I don’t know where the heck he was but he was hidden good. I was disappointed in Oprah during the song. She just stepped off to the side and was going over her notes and picking at her nails. It was like she could care less but then again, she was just doing her job. I was literally devastated when they took Celine and put her backstage so they could bring out the Canadian Tenors. I honestly would say she was backstage for about as long as she was on stage. Prepping for the Tenors and setting up that surprise took the longest. They had a whole row of audience members sitting behind us that were ‘fill ins’ … then when it was time to surprise the tenors the fills ins got up and left leaving all the open seats for the Tenor’s family and friends to come sit in. They had NO idea. I’m glad I wasn’t sitting close to them because I would have blabbed! I believe Denelle was and she handled it perfectly! So once the family was in place, they brought out the Tenors. I wasn’t very excited at all bc it hadn’t crossed my mind that Celly would sing with them. Then, they began singing and I have to admit I was blown away. Then Celine came out and it was like the beginning all over again. Dahhh!! Everytime we got excited or she sang we would stand up and scream and it just looked like she was looking our way.. probably thinking.. wow. Those girls are freakin CRAZY. I’m sorry did I get the wrong memo.. I heard Celine was gonna be here today… that means I show my love! : )

Unfortunately as you all saw, right after the Tenors finished, the show as over. It was so quick and so get to the point that I was devastated. Literally left a bit heart-broken to see her leave. Gosh that’s SUCH a tease!!!!! I hadn’t had enough. I wanted MORE…….

So we were herded out of the studio and not very fast. I have to admit that as soon as I watched her disappear into the darkness, my FIRST thought was finding the entrance to the studio. (garage) … we were unloaded out of the studio with the balcony going first. So I just stood there waiting, thinking… she is going to be gone. LONG gone..

 

We finally got out and you were order to pick up your belongings immediately because you would not be let back in. Well Brittany and I … we didn’t care. We left our jackets and went straight outside. : ) Besides, our jackets were loaded onto someone else’s hangers and we never got a coat check slip. Why waste our time? It was FREEZING but we seriously did NOT care. We walked around the building and sure enough there were 3 black suv’s and a garage. SURELY this was the place. But the SUV’s had people in them, like a guy and a girl.. it was odd so we waited for just a few minutes. We found an overhead vent that was blowing out warm air and just huddled. We knew we needed to convince the other girls to come wait too so we went back (meh, might as well locate our jackets too) We found the girls and not everyone was sold on the idea of waiting. A few thought surely she would be long gone! It had probably been 15 minutes already. But we started walking down that way. At this point, one of the SUV’s needed jumping off. We thought, okay, that surely isn’t Celine’s car.. she wouldn’t need jumping off… she would just order a new car. Hahaha jk. So one SUV parked infront of the other and jumped it off. At this point, more fans from the forum were showing up. This is where I formally met Kerry and another great gentleman (I’m sorry, your name escapes me : (

 

We then saw Scott Barnes… I knew it was him and I said.. “celine’s makeup artist” he whipped his head around like, “oh god” but then kept walking. I was quite embarrassed. I don’t know why but when I saw him I thought for sure she was still here. ??? WHY?? Its not like she needed him to fly home? But I’m glad we waited. Eventually there was probably 25 people out there. Even a couple that walked up from the street and asked what we were doing, but I think they knew Nick or something.

 

Then Nick came out to get Rene’s jacket. He was really nice to talk to everyone and let us know that Celine would stop for autographs and pictures. I knew then that I would atleast get to see her one more time. My heart was feeling A LOT better. I’m telling you, when I stood in that studio and tears welled up as she left, I just knew I couldn’t settle for that and I’m glad I didn’t…

 

We waited and waited and finally the garage doorman moved us to the other side because he saw that’s where Celine would be. So nice : ) Oh and before she finally came out.. they opened the door… we were all freakin out but they were just moving the suv into the garage.. the one that needed jumping off.. haha it WAS Celine’s car!

 

She later pulled out and we swarmed her. I feel kind of bad for that but I guess she is use to it. I thought it was incredible nice of her to even stop. I knew we had a few girls that had never ever met her so I stood back for a while and tried to push them to the front. I tell you it was such an amazing feeling watching some of my girls get to touch her and thank her and take a picture for the first time ever… seeing that became a priority to me and I didn’t even care if I got close. It was a weird feeling that you wouldn’t think you would get. I would think I would be determined to fight my way to the front but when you get to witness someone meeting her for the first time and you know how that feels… you’re almost just as happy for that moment. Its crazy! When I saw she was actually going to take a picture with everyone, I jumped in to get one. I think she was so chipper and willing to stop because she saw such an TRUE fan gathering for the first time ever on that show. (besides fans that are highlighted) She wanted to give back all that she had gotten just like she always does. Nick was pushing us through and after I got my picture I saw britt talking to Rene on the other side. I popped over to ‘hang out’ for a minute while Celine did her thing. I have to admit I have never really spoken to rene but I definitely became a Rene fan after this meeting because he is possibly the kindest soul ever. I can completely see how the two of them were drawn to each other. Britt and Rene were joking around and I don’t know what possessed me but I started to tell him about our story. I said, “we wanted to tell Celine but she’s busy… so I’m going to tell you that the 14 of us met because of celine at her last show on tour last year. We’ve been best friends every since and we made a dvd about it and sent it to oprah. The producers loved and and that’s why we are here” he seemed interested in a quiet type of way and I was pleased enough with that. Hoping that maybe he would pass along the story in the car ride home. He then turned to her and tapped her arm. She ignored. It was hilarious. He turned back to us and nodded and put up a finger as if saying hold on. And then tapped her again, she turned to him and gave a motion of her own like.. HOLD ON. Hahahah he waited and tapped her again. No response.. hahahaha There is a video of this moment but it is quicktime so I cant upload it to youtube right now but it makes me laugh. He is so gentle with her. Finally she finishes everyone on the other side and more have gathered on Rene’s side. He begins telling her what I just told him. There is a video of this on youtube, I believe most of you have seen it. I thought it was incredibly nice of Rene to tell her. He didn’t have to do that and we surely didn’t ask him to. We just wanted him to know too. But for him to take the time to tell her personally while we were all standing there was truly amazing and it made me fall for him even harder. Even though she may have not fully understood what we were saying or the basis of the story, that’s okay, we got to tell Rene and he personally passed it to Celine which was a priveledge itself. Besides I think Celine has to get in a mode where she is trying SO very hard to make she everyone and every person feels like they are the ONLY ones in the world when she meets you and even though she may not hear exactly everything you’re saying, she’s making you know she does care. The garage manager man was helping Nick get rid of us at this point …. And they drove away. I love that Celine’s window was already up but as they drove off she rolled it back down to stick her hand out and wave. It was little things like that, that she didn’t have to do but made her so amazing. I swear she was on happy pills . ha

 

We then pretty much SKIPPED down to the harpo sign to take a picture in memory of our dreams coming true. All we ever wanted was to be able to see Celine together.. all 14 of us in the same arena at the same concert, enjoying Celine together. Then we started dreaming a little bigger and a little bigger until we decided she must know exactly what she has done for us. And with just a little faith, came a huge dream come true… After all… if you follow your heart, I don’t think you can go wrong. 

Elisa had to literally get in a cab and fly to the airport to catch her plane. The rest of us spent an ungodly amount of money at Oprah’s store. I got a tote bag that says “live your dreams- Oprah” … all the girls signed the back of it and I carry it everyday. (along with a Chicago lapel pin) We traveled back to our hotel and that was when Betsy had to leave. The last 12 of us just savored our last and only second night together. (amber will kill me for this : )

 

These are my best friends and I thank you koolan and Vic for creating a common place for us all to come.. to love, and to find best friends. : ) The trip was all way too short and Im sure had it been sooner to Feb 3rd that I wrote this review and not midnight, I could have written it way better with more details but I just wanted to share a brief look into the whirlwind of the 3 days that we had.

 

I want to say what I always say.. those of you who have not had the glory to meet her or tell her your story. Be patient, be happy, stay positive, remember karma. Your time will come just as the time as come for others. I can NOT wait for that time to come for you because I can only imagine what that feeling bubbling inside of you is like. Keep dreaming and do not EVER think something is impossible. If you let your dreams go, someone else will come along and live the dream you dreamed. I love you all. Goodnight.
