Walt Disney Studios has announced that the only full-length animated feature film to ever be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture is being converted into Digital Disney 3D: The 1991 animated feature film Beauty and the Beast will be re-released in 2010.

 

The film’s original producers Don Hahn and directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale are using the film’s original computer files to re-render the film in 3D, a process that is expected to take 10 months. “By going back to the original animation files, which have been carefully archived for 17 years, and using the separate background, effects and character animation elements, we’re able to come up with a fun and unique 3-D experience for existing and new fans of the film,” Hahn said.

 

It might seem like a strange idea to convert a 2D animated film into a 3D presentation. The original film was a major stepping stone for Disney, blending of traditional animation and computer generated imagery (most notable with audiences was the ballroom scene). But I really wonder how the scenes that don’t involve elaborate computer generated backgrounds will look in three dimensions.

This SHOULD AT THE VERY LEASTget us at least a single live performance of BATB. I would think this would also give reason for it to be included in the new Vegas set list.

 

But I'm sure like everything Pre-FIY (excluding TPOL and LCMM) it will be completely overlooked and never heard again.

OMG I LOVEEEEEE Beauty and the beast I Really Really want celine to sing in it again , but once again i think with peoples fascination with young pop culture will take over and the film makers will once again go for the big money option of getting a young woman such as christina aguilera or rihanna to sing it Instead of The amazing woman who made the son g such a huge hit in the first place! I wanted to say 'why fix something that isn't broken?' but the truth is kids need films like this one.

 

Not all parents show their kids classic Disney and I think that's a shame. My friend's daughter absolutely loves this film and she loves the song too! She is only 3. She knows all the words and she gets excited when she hears Céline's voice. Re-releasing the film might introduce it to a whole new audience and, if they keep the original soundtrack, there is no reason why they wouldn't love the song too!

 

Céline has always said how important this song was for her career so hopefully she will be happy to get involved. I do fear that they might get some horribly young and cheesy teenagers to record it though! I hope not!

I hope Celine re does the song. I love Beauty and the Beast, Its my favorite movie of all time. I think, its great that they are releasing Beauty and the beast in 3d for the next generation. I remember seeing it, when it came out in the theaters for the first time. I was so excited.

I can't wait to see this! Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie. It came out just before I was born, so I never got a chance to see it in the theater!

 

I hope they keep the original soundtrack. That might be a good way to get younger people interested in Céline
