Shaun Posted November 17, 2009 at 12:42 PM Posted November 17, 2009 at 12:42 PM Perception in the UK is that both Leona's single and album are flopping badly. How this could be I just don't know. Her single made #2 in the charts, but is falling the midweek charts but her new album "Echo" is sitting at #1 in the midweek charts with first day sales of "only" 50,000. How on earth this could be a flop I don't know. I guess Leona is learning that not every single and not every album will sell millions but in my opinion if this were any other artists sales numbers nothing would be said. I suppose like anything Leona's new album is being compared to her old one and it's hurting her as "Spirit" flew off the shelves around the world. dj4celine Posted November 17, 2009 at 04:43 PM Posted November 17, 2009 at 04:43 PM (edited) Sophomore albums are bound to be compared to debuts and if the debuts are a super hit and if somehow the sophomore album doesn't do good, it'll be criticized no matter how good the material is. I think its the same case with Echo. The album is pretty solid IMO and it isn't a 'flop' with those sales in the current music industry standards. Also, after listening to the whole album for about a week now, I can strongly say that 'Happy' was a wrong choice for the lead single with great songs like 'I Got You' and 'Naked' being snubbed. I just hope they make them future singles. Shaun, who hit #1 if 'Happy' was #2? Nevermind, I just found out and BEP is #1?!?!?! Edited November 17, 2009 at 04:47 PM by dj4celine Quote
Tyler1991 Posted November 18, 2009 at 02:27 AM Posted November 18, 2009 at 02:27 AM Personally, Happy is my favorite song from the album. I'm kinda disappointed there aren't many high notes outside of Happy and one other song. Quote
dj4celine Posted November 18, 2009 at 09:46 AM Posted November 18, 2009 at 09:46 AM Tyler, what do you mean by there are no high notes apart from Happy? She hits whistle notes in 'Can't Breathe' and 'Naked'. There may be others but I don't remember Then she belts out in 'Love Letter', 'My Hands', 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' and 'Alive'. OK they may not be Celine-like belts but they are still notes and are quite powerful. But its the subtlety of certain songs in the album that shines through IMO Quote
Macaronie Posted November 18, 2009 at 08:02 PM Posted November 18, 2009 at 08:02 PM I still don't like her voice, the vibrato is too slow. Anyhow I like quite a few songs on this album. Much better than her first, imo. Quote
Black Kitten Posted November 19, 2009 at 12:06 AM Posted November 19, 2009 at 12:06 AM ONE DAY SALES: MAYER MAJOR AS Q4 BATTLE BEGINS IN EARNEST Columbia Star in Lead with Norah, Casting Crowns, 50 Cent, Bocelli Up Next November 18, 2009 Who says John Mayer can’t get stoned and have a #1 album on next Tuesday’s HITS Top 50 Album sales chart? Not us. The fourth quarter sprint to the end of the first decade of the 21st century (and what a decade it was) begins in earnest this week and, for battered music retailers, it couldn’t come a moment to soon. Columbia’s singer/songwriter, full-time Tweeter and tabloid lothario will bow on top next week as his Battle Studies rustles up 275-300k in sales, almost twice as much as his nearest pursuer, according to one-day reports from those hearty few still selling shiny, round discs in their stores instead of flat screen TVs. Blue Note chanteuse Norah Jones’ The Fall is the next-highest debut at 150-160k, putting her in a four-way logjam with Aftermath/Interscope rapper 50 Cent’s Before I Self-Destruct, also in its first week, Provident/Reunion Christian act Casting Crowns and Decca’s Andrea Bocelli, all in the 140-150k range. Island/IDJ teen phenom Justin Bieber appears to be poised to debut in the 110-120k neighborhood, a pleasant surprise which L.A. Reid and company have to be delighted with. 19/Jive/JLG American Idol winner Kris Allen’s debut should be between 85-90k, which will make for an interesting comparison when runner-up Adam Lambert’s album drops on Nov. 23. DGC/Interscope rock gods Them Crooked Vultures, featuring Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Led Zep’s John Paul Jones, are on target for a total of 70-75k for their bracing, neo-psychedelic blooze-metal mash-up. J/RMG X Factor winner Leona Lewis’ sophomore album, Echo, should do between 60-65k. Paul McCartney’s Hear Music/Concord live DVD/CD, Good Evening New York City, is in the 50-55k area, while Interscope act OneRepublic’s Waking Up will arise with 40-45k and Janet Jackson’s A&M greatest hits album looks on track for 35-40k. The market was up 3% vs. last week, down 21% vs. same week last year and still down 13% year to date. Is it 2010 yet? Quote
trls Posted November 19, 2009 at 01:22 AM Posted November 19, 2009 at 01:22 AM That sucks for Leona! Guess the album is gonna be a flop in the US. But it's soooo goooood though. My favorite song is can't breathe. Man she can really hit those high notes like mariah Quote

CelineRox Posted November 19, 2009 at 09:21 PM Posted November 19, 2009 at 09:21 PM Personally, Happy is my favorite song from the album. Same here, I love Happy. The others I find very Quote http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm31/celinedion82/Emilylove-signature-1.jpg
Shaun Posted November 19, 2009 at 09:26 PM Posted November 19, 2009 at 09:26 PM To say that Leona will not be known in 5 years time is, frankly, ridiculous. OK her new album might not be living up to the standards of her debut but that's like saying every Celine album will sell like "Let's Talk About Love" did. It's just not going to happen. In the current UK midweeks Leona's new album has sold just under 100,000 copies and is sitting comfortably clear at number 1. She has that huge debut album to live up to. She is just now finding her way and hopefully she can build out a repertoire that stays strong for the rest of her career. This album has some pretty strong songs on it. I'm pretty sure there were people out there who heard Celine's second album and thought: "that girl will never make it" Quote
dj4celine Posted November 19, 2009 at 10:58 PM Posted November 19, 2009 at 10:58 PM Spirit to me was more like The Colour Of My Love while Echo is Celine Dion. It just depends on which one you prefer. Different albums, but both very good. On listening to this album almost constantly, I can say it's a grower. Give it time and one is bound to like it. Subtle songs, nice lyrics, great vocal delivery are some of the standout features this album contains. Spirit was more of a right-on-your-face album with songs like Bleeding Love, Better In Time, Take a Bow amongst others. Echo is listen-more-love-more album. Just my two cents! Quote

OK they may not be Celine-like belts but they are still notes and are quite powerful. But its the subtlety of certain songs in the album that shines through IMO Okay, so there are some slight high notes on 3 songs on the album. Big deal. She is capable of much more. Her only real belt (jaw dropping, long, high) is Bleeding Love. And that 12 second belt was followed by another belt of about 6-8 seconds, where in the live performances she gradually rose to a C6. That song, Bleeding Love.... is her most vocally powerful. It's her biggest hit. Why can't she have other "hits" of similar nature (in terms of vocals)? Quote
