ThisTime Posted August 29, 2009 at 03:01 PM Posted August 29, 2009 at 03:01 PM Mariah, Celine, & Whitney can't be the only 'divas' forever. Music will move on and it ain't the 90s anymore, and if they kept bringing back Celine & Mariah people would eventually stop watching I'm so glad to see Jordin added, and I couldn't agree MORE with who they have. Except for Miley & Adele. Miley can't sing and Adele just is not popular here. So I ask, WHY. Quote http://i.imgur.com/MfrTohK.gifMy Twitter || My Tumblr
dj4celine Posted August 30, 2009 at 10:42 AM Posted August 30, 2009 at 10:42 AM (edited) Lea, the question of a bonafide 'diva' comes to point then. Does anyone even consider any of these artists 'divas'? I doubt that. If the criterion of the 'diva' tag has been substantially lowered, then Beyonce, Britney and even Christina should replace newbies like Adele, Smiley, Jordin and Leona who are just one albums old. Anyways, it depends on the main motive of the night. At least it'll be popular amongst the teens of 13-17 with Smiley Edited August 30, 2009 at 10:43 AM by dj4celine Quote
Stardust Posted August 30, 2009 at 05:06 PM Posted August 30, 2009 at 05:06 PM well, maybe Celine, Whitney, Mariah can not be the "only divas" forever, but do you see any others at this moment? i actually dont see other condedats. dj4celine Posted August 30, 2009 at 06:57 PM Posted August 30, 2009 at 06:57 PM I never said that Mariah, Celine and Whitney are the only divas. There are others who came before them and after them. Aretha (as much as I detest her), Tina, Madonna (I'm gonna regret saying this), Janet, Donna Summer, Patti LaBelle (bless her), Reba McIntyre, Barbra (being one of the torch bearers), Billie Holiday, Cher, Diana Ross are some of the few who came before or around the same tme as the big 3. Then there are some new ones who can be termed as the new age divas like Christina Aguilera, Beyonce (to some extent), Martina McBride, Anastacia among others. But c'mon, artists who are just one album old can't be termed as 'divette' let alone a 'diva' Anyway, I think its just going on in circles so I'll shut myself up after this post Quote

Except for Miley & Adele. Miley can't sing and Adele just is not popular here. So I ask, WHY. Adele was awarded the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Her music videos are all over VH1. She writes all of her lyrics; she is incredibly young; and she brings brilliant music to a giant music industry slump! Her jazzy voice is one of the most unique musical marvels since Norah Jones. I agree with Kelly, Leona and Adele. They are on their way. I like Jordin and she can SING - but she has barely established a style. And I have no words for the other choice. Quote

I'll be watching her performances on YouTube along with Kelly, Leona, and Jordin. I refuse to watch it live because of Miley. maceta_biloxi Posted September 17, 2009 at 07:11 PM Posted September 17, 2009 at 07:11 PM I think we've been spoiled... We are used to Divas like Aretha, Tina, Cher, Celine, Mariah & Whitney, but guys the truth is that no one, no new singers sing like them anymore that's why it's so hard to accept the new generation of singers because there are no power voices anymore, there are no diva image anymore. So i think the Divas now are different and very very commercial with an average talent but it seems they have great acceptance among the young generations (of course...) Stardust Posted September 18, 2009 at 03:25 PM Posted September 18, 2009 at 03:25 PM i agree with his list Sean's top five pop divas 5. Madonna: She's not exactly a world-class warbler. Then again, Like a Virgin ain't exactly Ave Maria. But what Madge lacks in vocal derring-do, she makes up for in invention and scariness. Her lovely M.J. eulogy at the MTV VMAs will only add to queenly aura. 4. Whitney Houston: Back before Bobby Brown inhaled her life force like one of those Dementors in Harry Potter, the Queen of the Night could lay claim to one of the great church voices of the 20th century. 3. Celine Dion: It's easy to make fun of Celine. It's even easier to make fun of her husband, Rene. And yet the Canadian chest-pounder is an indomitable sales force who owned Vegas during her stand at Caesar's. 2. Barbra Streisand: Any diva worth her designer bottled water chilled at exactly 76 degrees will have as many fans as foes. And Babs might be the most polarizing lady on our list. And yet, La Streisand could win almost any singing contest. Unless she was going up against … 1. Aretha Franklin: "Whatchuwant? Baby I got it!" You can't argue with the Queen of Soul taking the top spot. She does what she wants, including wearing a steroidal bow on her hat at the presidential inauguration. Aretha: large, in charge and forever the diva to beat. Quote http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7105/mybannerglitter7cb00b87.gif
