celinerific Posted June 21, 2009 at 04:52 PM Posted June 21, 2009 at 04:52 PM But actually, a few of us were disussing this "end of the world" fiasco and people don't actually know what it really means. People are saying the world isn't going to end, but something else might... kind of like a huge revolution that could change the world forever. No one knows what "the end" really means... it could be the end of an era, the end of poverty, the end of... something. No necessarily the being of our planet. This is some insights from thing science-y author guy... "There is zero scientific evidence that anything will happen, but there are numerous things that could easily threaten the human species in the year 2012, such as a geomagnetic reversal, asteroid strike or supernova. Or something more intimate, like a flu pandemic, or a nuclear war." "Although I'd prefer new age enlightenment, I can't help but think something terrible may occur, and that ancient civilisations have left us coded warnings (hint: I'm not talking about Nostradamus) " So, I don't know... It's interesting, but quite blurred also. Quote http://i58.tinypic.com/2qbub9c.png @ErikaTran | Insta: aireexwp | erikatran.com

Jacqui Posted June 22, 2009 at 09:30 AM Posted June 22, 2009 at 09:30 AM I've spent most of the past 2 months completely freaking out about this. But after a LOT of reading, this is what I've come up with: First of all, it's sick and twisted that there are websites asking people for money in return for "protection" from whatever they think may happen. It's not so great that the film industry is now getting in on it too, making money out of people's fears. And SensationalCeline, sorry, but what kind of teacher presents his/her personal views as fact, to a group of 8th graders? That's kind of irresponsible Anyway. As Celinerific said, there is no scientific evidence that anything will happen. If there was even a shred of evidence, NASA would be looking into it, rather than theorizing on what the planets are likely to be doing in 5 billion years. If anyone is still worried, this site explains some stuff www.dailycommonsense.com also http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrob...ons-and-answers Most of it just comes from the fact that the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012. But when their calendar ends, it just starts again. Some of the people who study this ancient civilization believe something will happen, but even they don't believe it'll be the end of the world. Other experts think nothing will happen at all. The last time the Mayan calendar ended was over 5000 years ago, so there would be no historical records to give us an indication of what happened last time, but there is still life on Earth all these years later! I think it's just sensationalism. People go looking for old things ancient prophets may or may not have said, to add to their theories. And suddenly "the calendar is ending" becomes "something bad will happen" which turns into "something bad will definitely happen." We've seen it here, when Celine and Rene don't hold hands one day, and the next day everyone's like "OMGGGG are they getting divorced?" Negativity spreads fast, the media cashes in on it, and everyone goes a bit crazy. I can't say with any certainty that nothing will happen in 2012. I'm not God, I don't know- it might! But those things could also happen tomorrow, or in 2011, 2013, or the year 3000. We just don't know. Remember 2000? The world was supposed to end, all the computers were supposed to crash, and Jesus was supposed to return. January 1st, the only thing that happened was that a bunch of people woke up with hangovers The world was also supposed to end in the 70s, 1987, 1993, 2003, 2006, and earlier this year. Hmm...didn't happen. I'm not saying it never will, but for the past 2000 years people have been trying to figure it out and so far they haven't succeeded. Even Jesus's disciples thought the world would end in their lifetimes... but one of the last things he said to them before they ascended into heaven was this: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority." (Acts 1:7) Wow, I kind of wrote an essay, sorry! Anyway, I won't be watching the movie. Quote
whineupemily Posted June 22, 2009 at 09:40 AM Posted June 22, 2009 at 09:40 AM (edited) How come everyone needs to worry so MUCH.Why don't we all just wait till December blah blah, 2012. Then tell our theories. "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority." (Acts 1:7) Ugh that pretty much settles it. If it was a KNOWN fact that the world was going to .. some how end in 2012, people should stop all the s*** about worrying, and try to live their life. I shall be watching the movie, because seeing something like that, is a miraculous experience. If something is meant to happen in 2012 or any other time while we are in existence , and the world, then let it be. Everything happens for a reason. I in general meant my family, they are SO freaked out. I'm like "Calm DOWN please! God has a plan, and if his plan involves anything happening to mankind and the earth, then let it be, and don't get to worried, or try to change it because it will happening for a reason." Quote
Jacqui Posted June 22, 2009 at 01:24 PM Posted June 22, 2009 at 01:24 PM (edited) Oh ok lol. I know, it sucks...it doesn't really make sense, that people are freaking out about this so much. People have predicted stuff a billion times before and nothing came of it. I guess it just spread a lot through the media this time, it's like Y2K all over again. And if and when this comes to be nothing, I guess they'll just choose another future date to worry about. (In fact, some already have!)Worrying doesn't help anything, though. If there's scientific fact behind a theory, then tell the world. But if not, it's just pointless rumors. It just upsets people, and causes them to do stupid things. We're probably better off not knowing about things in advance. Today's problems are enough to deal with (which Jesus also said.) Edited June 22, 2009 at 01:27 PM by Jacqui Quote

MTJ Posted June 23, 2009 at 12:14 PM Posted June 23, 2009 at 12:14 PM The trailer made me pretty tense -- I'd love to see the movie! And if the film industry doesn't play off of our fears, what do they have to make a movie of? Love? Titanic was scary.... Quote
Jacqui Posted June 24, 2009 at 12:18 AM Posted June 24, 2009 at 12:18 AM And if the film industry doesn't play off of our fears, what do they have to make a movie of? Love? Yes. Love. Or comedies, or dramas, they're good too. Titanic was different, it was about a past event. Science fiction bothers me because some people don't know where the line between reality and imagination is. If this 2012 thing keeps getting this much publicity, it could be harmful. Riots could break out, people could commit suicide because they're afraid of whatever they believe will happen on that day, and people are living in fear for what is probably no reason at all. Quote
SensationalCeline Posted June 25, 2009 at 02:53 AM Posted June 25, 2009 at 02:53 AM What I said about 2012 was that Celine was probably going to be singing at the 2010 olympics so it's all good. Everyone's gonna be freaking out in 2012 when it gets here. Haha.........and that trailer did kinda scare me but who knows what's gonna happen? Hopefully I'll get to see Celine before it does, whenever that is.. Quote http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg280/spoiledrottenbrat4063/Celine%20Dion/CELINESIGGY.jpg
Belle Céline Posted June 30, 2009 at 05:52 AM Posted June 30, 2009 at 05:52 AM I want to see this but my best friend refuses to go with me. She actually believes that the world is going to end in 2012 and she won't watch stuff like this. She said she watched those Left Behind movies and FREAKED out and was scared to death basically. So now she thinks the world is going to just end in a few years or something. I told her the world isn't going to just "end". There is no proof that the world is going to end anytime soon.
