Céline's Releases...

Céline has an amazing musical career behind her, by her side currently, and ahead in her future. She has released many more albums than the average artist can even dream to release. She's recorded in many languages including French, English, Japanese, and even German - - to name a few. She's released amazing movies for her fans to own such as the highly sold A New Day...Live In Las Vegas. Quite a feat for someone who hasn't even hit 50-years-old.

The question I ask of all of you is what was done incredibly right with her releases? What was fumbled and messed up so bad regarding her releases? Both these questions regard not only her albums, but her movies and even interviews done for TV and magazines the world over.

I'll start with a few:

Done Right

1. The creation of the "Celine" logo. This iconic piece of Céline history is a beautiful symbol of not only the woman's name, but the grace and elegance she expresses every day of her life. Including this gem on her releases was one of the best decisions made in her career. Something so little CAN make a BIG difference.

2. Selecting "That's The Way It Is" as the lead single for All The Way...A Decade Of Song. This hit demonstrated to the world the versatility our diva posseses. It proved she is more than ballads and power notes. She does have the ability to dance and have a good time - allthewhile still conveying meaningful messages to the world.

Done Wrong

1. Releasing "Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)" as the third single from A New Day Has Come. Although this song is a wonderful and emotional tribute to one's mother, it simply doesn't have enough of an "it" factor when compared to other songs found on the album. Better choices would have been the upbeat and infectious numbers "When The Wrong One Loves You Right" and "Sorry For Love," or the even more powerful ballads "I Surrender" and "The Greatest Reward."

2. The album, Unison, is one of many amazing releases in Céline's discography. For being the woman's very first all-English album she conveyed emotion and passion like no other. So, what exactly was wrong with this release? Simple -- the album's cover art. Containing a very plain looking Céline photograph, horrible lighting, and hard to read lettering this album deserved a better cover. A better choice would have been the picture used for the "(If There Was) Any Other Way" trade ad (seen below).

Ya I often wonder why "sorry for love" or "when the wrong one loves you right" were never released?? SO Wrong!

Dying her hair Blonde and cutting it short...SO right!!!!!!

Her people throwing that DVD in the bin.....SO Wrong!!!!!

I'm going to guess she's referring to Céline lipping certain numbers during her shows, which inturn shows up on her DVD releases. With that said I'm hoping people will be mature enough to respect other people's opinions so this topic won't get locked/closed. :yes:

1. The Playback thing...

2. Always including the songs TPOL, IACBTMN, BYLM, TLYM, LCMM and MHWGO in the set list...

3. SONY not promoting her albums properly...

That's true to an extent, Claudette. Those things are very wrong in Celine's career(though the playback debate is a never-ending issue). But what annoys me, is that I honestly believe Celine is very naive about what goes on in her career. Celine is not a dumb woman, and even though she is #1 Family Woman now, i'm sure she would be shocked to find out some of the behind-the-scenes decisions used to rip-off the fans. I believe that even though she has the final say in many decisions(like setlists and GH releases), i'm sure Rene uses some tactics of persuasion to persuade her to vote in what he wants to do.

I think Celine honestly needs a new manager. Rene is a wonderful husband and an amazing father, but he simply cannot keep up with the times. He is treating Celine's career like she is Barbra Streisand, a singer who relies on her hits and lives in the past(no disrespect to Barbra). Celine is going to be 41 soon, she still has a lot of time in her career to still stay strong. The huge success of the 90's is over but that doesn't mean overall mainstream success has to be. Celine needs somebody like Clive Davis to take control of her career. She wants to be #1 Family Woman, that's all right, she deserves a happy family. But she needs a Grade A Team behind her to take care of the promotional work and make sure she has everything she needs.

I agree with the not releasing "I Surrender" from "A New Day Has Come" being a HUGE mistake. I mean Kelly Clarkson sang that song on American Idol that year and it wasnt even a single! It would of been a huge hit.

Secondly, another huge mistake was Celine cutting her hair short directly after the One Heart album and for the first year of Vegas. It looked horrible. Had she kept her longer hair, a much softer look would of appeared in videos like "One Heart" and "Have you ever been in love" making her look muchmore beautiful than what that hair did :sick:

Also, with the "One Heart" album missed opportunities with "Reveal" and "Naked" were again thrown out the window!!!

Then after some time is the second special edition of the special edition (If you know what I mean). I'm tired of this. I can't afford to spent my money for another CD which is different because of 1 song...

Yeah! That's the number one thing with me. I understand that some hits were bigger in different countries, and that's their reason to do this, but why not just put all of the songs on the same CD?! Maybe that way hits like Think Twice would regain recognition in the US. And that way we would only have to buy one CD.

Unfortunately - oh yes... the choice of singles for the past 8 years or so has been so WRONG, and so few (and not so well-made) videos... and even if they were OK - still no proper promotional work... really someone should kick the Sony team's asses (and not only theirs probably). I totally agree with some of you that 'When the wrong one loves you right', 'I surrender', 'Reveal', 'In his touch' (well that's my choice;), 'A cause', 'Surprise Surprise' and 'This time' should have been singles! And why are her French songs so poorly promoted and unknown in non-French speaking countries? I'd LOVE to hear some other songs on the radio than PQTME or TLDH (even that one rarely) - having heard PQTME, MHWGO and ABM a million times no wonder many non-fans hate her, they're probably like: doesn't she have new songs?

BAD PROMOTION, that's the one very wrong thing!

And now - RIGHT: well first of all, the way Celine is. So brilliant, lovely, open to everyone, caring and sensitive but at the same time a real volcano of energy, passion and joy. And her songs express that in their versatility, from ballads to good and strong uptempo songs (I'll skip the 'promotion' part not to go back to the wrongs). We know what's going on in her life, the whole world knows the basic things and still there are no scandals or so. She's a first class STAR who acts like our best friend. How could we not love her?

OK, next: the whole Taking Chances CD, revamping her image and of course the TC Tour. A brilliant move! And I think D'elles was a great release too. I think we've been waiting for releases like this since 'ANDHC' or so. And I loved the D'elles and TC photoshoots! They show her young, sexy, mysterious, edgy and powerful. <3

Wrong:

1. No songs from 1 fille & 4 types and only one from D'elles on TC tour (I don't count that one time she sang TLDH in Belgium). It was terrible choice not to include songs from her TWO latest French albums. She completely ignored them as well as Je ne vous oublie pas. It was Au coeur du stade/Live a Paris setlist all over again mixed with A new day... Live in LV songs. Of course, I'm talking about shows in Francophone countries. Thank God for couple of new songs from Taking chances otherwise there wouldn't be anything new on this tour which is ironic considering she released couple of albums since her last tour.

2. Weak or barely no promotion for the above mentioned albums, meaning no officialy released singles, no videos, no remixes etc. Instead we got rare to find promo singles for Immensite, A cause, Alone etc. for which you have to pay a little fortune on ebay if you want to have it. Taking chances is an album full of amazing songs but majority of wider audience don't even know they exist. Why? Because all the promotion stopped after TC single, because Celine was the only one promoting it appearing on couple tv shows and events, because we got only ONE video from that album, because we got ONE officialy released single, one only in UK and one only in Japan.

Right:

1. Two great French albums (1F&4T, D'elles), three English (ANDHC, OH, TC - a lot of people here don't like OH but I like it), French compilation ONCP, dvd and blu-ray of AND...LILV.

2. TC world tour - nobody predicted she would tour immediately after Vegas and it was unique chance for a lot of fans all over the world to finally see her, especially for those who didn't have a chance to go to Vegas.

3. A new day... - Las Vegas never looked so good while Celine was there performing almost every night .

yeah totally agree... PLUS the logo stood for QUALITY in every aspect of the word... when the logo disappeared, so did that old quality standard! -_-

2. staying her old self! Of course she has changed a bit over the years, but she’s still very down to earth!!

3. take time for her fans… not a lot of artist do!

4. working her @$$ off in the 90ies

5. protecting her voice

hmm there should be more clarity about rereleases, I aint a big fan of it, unless it’s something like a reissue of Unison with a bonus dvd, but unfortunatly most artist rerelease their albums now, to make more sales…

SO TRUE!!! I can understand céline doesn’t want to spend 2 weeks with shooting a clip, but most of the last 7 years have been not céline worthy!!

Yeah I totally agree… even though I loved the TCWT, the setlist just sucked!! Why on earth was TJTWIM removed??!! I can’t ever understand!

yeah I hate the way her latest singles has been released, or better HOW NOT!!! Why shoot a video for Contre nature and Immensité if there isn’t a real single??!!

8. This isn’t that appropriate now, but why did she dress like a 50+ year old conservative spinster in the past?? Sure she had some hot outfits, but most of the time she had very unsexy clothes… that’s the reason why everyone still thinks she’s older then madonna! :confused:

I think her image has improved as she's aged. She's wearing HOT clothes now, compared to the FIY era. During her big peak it was pretty conservative, but she's more gorgeous today than 10 years ago.

It would be great to have albums and singles on vinyl. It's a treat to have them especially for collector's like many of us here on the forum. Just look at all those amazing picture discs and vinyls from Madonna for example. Btw, does anyone know if A new day has come album was released on vinyl? I think I saw it once on ebay but I'm not sure, maybe I'm wrong. In any case, it would be great to have it.

no the last album that was released on vynil was FIY and the last real vynil single was TTWII/ IWYTNM.

Alex... yeah i know céline dresses so hot right now, and she did improve... but many people think she's ancient now, because of the way she dressed in the nineties! :confused:

Vinyl?! For reals? Back in the 90's and early parts of this decade, only DJ's and professionals used Vinyl, and collectors got the rest. Now most professionals are using digital methods for music; times have changed. There's a reason why stuff doesn't get released on vinyl as much: not as many folks are using it. Sure, it's cool from a collector's perspective, with large album artwork, etc., but it's just not used as much. Sure, there are still professionals who mix it in with what they're playing, but that really wouldn't include much Celine Dion.

It's more collectable now, I guess.

That's the biggest improvement! In the 90's she dressed like a grandmother most of the time. Now she's comfortable with herself and she dresses her age, and she looks amazing.

Big singers had their albums also released on vynil! Katie Melua, Amy Winehouse, Duffy;s rockferry, madonna's albums are still on vynil and most of her singles too! and why couldn't it be released on vynil?? not every release has to be about making money only -_- and Kian the last album that was released on vynil of Céline is Falling Into You :thumbsup2:

One heart as my thoughts was an overact,and extending the contract of Vegas one of the biggest mistakes. and releasing alone with that crap live video as as single pissed me off so much :nono: .

Done Right

- Changing the cover of A New Day Has Come from the Célineless photo to the beautiful shot of her on the beach. The newer cover truly brought a different feel to the album and helped bring everything together more tightly artistically.

- Releasing a second "Collector's Edition" type version of A New Day Has Come without the CBS special as part of the DVD. If it couldn't have been done due to contractual issues then it shouldn't have been done at all. Doing projects half-a$$ed only makes the artist(s) and others involved in the project look lazy and passionless.

Lol. I disagree. Based on how the songs were performed (*coughs*), I don't think too many people are upset about it not being released.

More important DVDs should have been released...live in memphis...and a live DVD of a English concert from LTAL.
