Let's say I do...
You know both sides?! NO!!! so try to open your eyes to another things exept the things that you see in your contrey, because I asure you that you don't see our side of the story if you say those things!!

And I really have to ask you somthing: Did you ever set in a shelter waiting to hear an explotion?! Did you ever heard an alarm in your life?! Did you ever had 60 seconds or less to get to a shelter?
You want to tell me what was your conurns this week?! with who or where to go on the Silvester?! you know what MY concerns was?! My concern was to know if my friend arrived saifty home from where she serves!!

In my country I see only the Israel part 'cauze I live in Italy, and you know that Italy (Berlusconi) is a fan of USA and Israel...

I had to reason with my own brain and so I watch in the Net what's really happening.
I've expressed my opinion and my view, and I know that's hard to leave in a country that's in war... I know...
But I think it's more hard for the Palestinians.
And you Mrs. Goldman, how can you say that Palestinians are terrorist? That Palestinians are idiot. For me the more terrorists are The israelians which are murdering thousands of people with the EXCUSE that they want to kill Hamas leaders.
That's not justice! The palestinians haven't a justice!
You were persecuted in the past, and now you're persecuting another popolation.
I've seen Israelians soldiers killing Palestinians child giving they kick and I can't believe that...

You have really no idea...Oh my gosh.....!!!!!

I have friends here in Switzerland and two are from Palestine and one is from Irak!!!

They told me that it is not Israel's fault that they always have war there... Israel is only protecting there people there!!!

They even told me that in there religion no other culture or religion are allowed except Islam!!! So they had to escape to Europe otherwise they wouldn' be alive anymore!!!!!

So please don't write such nonsense here.... It's a shame!!!!

My comments are likely to irritate many. If you find yourself getting upset about mine, or anyone else's, take a break, calm down, and then try to re-read them without attributing what YOU perceive they mean.

1) First and foremost, any death of any innocent bystander is tragic. It is not a necessary evil, but it is the inevitable by-product of long term vicious conflicts.

2) Any conflict, lasting THOUSANDS of years, is a war, not a isolate dispute. You cannot take one period of time in isolation, as those in conflict certainly aren't.

3) As time passes, at some point one or both sides is equally guilty. You cannot take a snapshot in time and argue for or against any position. Blame & guilt will shift back and forth.

4) Any attempt to win by force alone, ultimately fails. This means that both Israel and it's opponents are ultimately going to fail if violence is the method chosen to finally end the conflicts. The fact that this particular little war has been happening for thousands of years proves that. WW2 didn't end with the surrenders of Germany, Italy or Japan. The hostilities ceased. That is NOT the same thing. Once the violence was curbed, and eventually ended, it still took a long time to win the true peace- lack of animosity and eventually, acceptance an openness.

5) Equating the efforts of groups like Hamas, with all Palestinians is naive and incorrect. Similarly, certain ultra hawkish groups within Israel does not reflect all Israellis. You must separate the agendas of those groups, with the agendas of the peoples of those 'countries'.

6) Both sides have groups of people that do not want the conflict to end, ever, unless the other side ceases to exist. That is NOT the view of the general public at large. It is usually the view of the most radical elements. Hamas most certainly does NOT reflect what the average Palestenian wants. Same can be said of some groups within Israel.

7) Those radical groups seek to undermine their own people's more peaceful efforts, knowing that this will prolong the conflict and, hopefully, give them the support to actually eradicate the other side. Hamas and it's israelli equivalents do NOT want peace to work if that means the other side is given the right to exist.

So, the fact is that until those that support violent resistance are not given support by way of money and people, there is only the hope of another relatively calm period developing.

The best example of how such long term conflicts can be resolved can be seen in the aftermath of the partitioning of India into India and Pakistan. That area is still in turmoil, but Ghandi showed that peaceful resistance, without acquiesence and without armed conflict, does work. Certainly, getting your heads beat in and NOT fighting back did more to win world support and sanctions than anything. Yes, thousands died in the process- slaughtered even at the hands of the British. Still, eventually the peace was established. When you repay attrocity with attrocity, the rest of the world that might help turns it's back saying, "A pox on both your houses."

Yes, it will still take decades for all that hatred to burn itself out. But each year that goes by, less and less of both populations hang onto the past.

The same must happen in the middle east.

Until all this happens, arguing about any 6 month period of the conflict is meaningless.

One final thought- The chinese have a saying that I find also quite applicable: Man who decides to tickle the tail of a dragon is stupid.

all i want to say is i'm against this war.

declaring war on hamas won't stop their resistance.

i understand the israeli point of view but that doesn't mean that we won't speak about those kids, women,... who are dying everyday. who live without food, electricity and water.

their shelters aren't safe.

if war is the way how israel is protecting herself so it's the wrong way.

the results of wars is more wars.

if israel killed hamas leaders other will came and even more violent.

and if now israel have the power and missiles to kill that won't be forever.

human being are dying were they from israel or palestine.

this war should stop immediatly.

i'm lebanese and i know what the meaning of hearing bombs explosing, missiles droping near us.

so not only the israelis know that feeling.

and the palestinians who hear the bombings everyday 24/7? what about them?

neather israel has the right to declare wars, neather hamas has the right to launch those missiles randomly.

at the end all i want to say is innocent people are dying. they are not animals. they are human beings.

this war should stop. because no one will gain anything.

the results will just be more destruction and hate.

For lost84 I don't know about your friends, I only know that I'm both Italian and Iranian and in Iranian Parliament we've a rapresentance of all religions, included the Hebrew rapresentance. So, aren't true for me the things that yours foreign friends had told you.

Finally, I've understand that Israelians are very fixed with theirs ideas, so as far as they don't open their mind the war will continue. And the war is not the resolution.

Israelians were persecuted and now they're persecuting. That's my idea and none cane change my point of view.

I'd like so much to see in that region two countries (Israel and Palestine) in peace to each other! Two states and two populations living in peace. But with the mentality of Israel I think it won't be possible.

It's not that we're fixed with our ideas, it's just that someone who is so much out of this circle (Italy) won't really be able to understand what it's like to live in such a war zone.

Imagine you have 15 seconds to run for cover before a bomb hits your house. that's the daily life of the people of the city of Sderot for the past 8 years (!!!) and that's the way it's been when gaza was in normal situations AND when the borders were shut.. no matter what, they kept launching missiles and Israel did absolutely NOTHING, which is absurd...

When almost 3 years ago, the palestinians broke into an army base and kidnapped a soldier and took him to the gaza borders, Israel did nothing. they started a negotiation which is still going on while the poor soldier is rotting in some basement if he's not already dead.

Only when it started in another front and the hezballah started launching rockets on the north of Israel, from Lebanon, and kidnapped two more soldiers in the process, did we fight the fire with fire....

We have really put up with it all for too long.... and now, the missiles they are shooting are even more far-reaching that they almost get to the other half of the country, it's crazy! yes, I'd support everything in order to stop that!

It's a stupidity to blame any of the sides... Like someone said is a 'war' with many many years and the 'one' to blame was already lost in the middle of this big mess and confusion. Even more, both sides are suffering, that's what matters the most.

I believe we should focuse in helping those in need, by that I don't mean Palestinians or Israeli, I mean EVERY person caught in the middle of all this crazyness. Sometimes it seems we are not in the XXI century... It seems we are in the era of the conquers... hundreds of years ago. Sometimes in history we found ourselves in a point that we act as animals instead of acting like human beings. We saw the suffering of the WW2 up close and we still remember it every year but somehow when we want to, and just because we think we are right, we forget it.

I really hope this situation could stop and I would also love to see the people here talking about solutions and about helping others instead of pointing fingers to each other.

We should start caring about others instead of caring about us or only those who are born in the same country we did... In the end there's not much that separates us. We are all equal at the beginning and end of life... The only problem is that we tend to think we can pretend we are different somewhere between the middle. It's not true. We are being fools.

What you describes here is exatlly what the Palestinians learn from a very young age.

When I was young I learn to read and right not to hate people... that came later, when everyday there was a bomber here.

Oh BTW I just went out from my shelter and bombs fall near the place I live. It happend TWICE today!!!!!!

It's normal that Hamas has attacked Israel. In fact with the excuse that there was an agreement Israel also besieged Gaza... Gaza was without anything... ANYTHING

It's normal that Gaza now is rebelling to the Israelian siege, not give a damn to the agreement.

Today's numbers: 423 Palestinians killed - 4 Israelians killed (in the last 8 days)
