MTJ Posted September 30, 2008 at 11:09 PM Posted September 30, 2008 at 11:09 PM (edited) I don't believe it. Sony spent money on Celine? Nope, last I heard Celine dishes-out for videos herself. All artists do. But Celine's special because she also buys her own jewelry and clothes, while everyone else just borrows them or is given them. Xpresso Posted September 30, 2008 at 11:15 PM Posted September 30, 2008 at 11:15 PM Actors have to be paid, cameramen, chefs, costumes and make-up people, hotels for all these people if more than a day's work, editing, etc. Lots of $$$$... And it's quite normal that record companies are not willing to spend so much on videos anymore. Just take Céline's career as an example. Her albums used to sell between 25 to 30 million units, so it's not a big deal for the company to spend $1 million for the video of the first single. Now she sells 3-4 million units, so it's easy to understand why Sony doesn't want to spend $1 million for a video!! And it's the same for ALL artists nowadays.... I guess record companies need to be a little more creative and do something beautiful/artistic with 1/3 of the money!! Something Sony hasn't learned yet.... Quote
idroveallnight Posted September 30, 2008 at 11:23 PM Posted September 30, 2008 at 11:23 PM If this is true it's probably because they had to pay David Meyers a pretty hefty penny to direct it. Considering David's resume includes directing videos for some very high profile artists (i.e. Britney Spears, Missy Elliot, Jay Z, J.Lo, Janet Jackson, Mariah, Kelly Clarkson, Shakira...) I don't think he was cheap... and he probably charged Celine extra since she doesn't "fit" in with the other talents he's directed for. Can you imagine how much they had to pay Will.I.Am to appear on the TC special? Plus it was shot on a private beach, probably late at night and the crew looked enormous in the making-of video--that's a lot of traveling to pay for, a lot of workers to move equipment, a lot of mouths to feed, and a lot of paychecks to sign. Just to have access to film on that beach probably cost a fortune. They wasted so much money to shoot on that beach since the footage from it was used for only 5 seconds...what a waste. I wonder how much Taking Chances cost? Quote
Javito Posted October 1, 2008 at 12:12 AM Posted October 1, 2008 at 12:12 AM I wonder how much Taking Chances cost? Nothing. It was a present of Caesars Palace to Céline in appreciation for the 5 year recruitment she spent there. The video was free also for Sony because they didn't have in their plans to send it to any TV channel in the world so that anyone can know this video. So it was the cheapest video she has done in her career, the record company did not spend any dollar in sending it to TV's Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

I remember thinking that this video must've cost a fortune to make and unless they were planning to really push it I thought Rene would be out of his mind to spend so much money and have the video go to waste. Anyways, thanks Caesars for the great production! God knows you robbed us blind with those high ticket prices. Quote
JP Posted October 1, 2008 at 12:46 AM Posted October 1, 2008 at 12:46 AM (edited) Well, i'm surprise it was that expensive but not surprise it's expensive!!I think it was a big director so that cost a lot.. And you can't compare with PQTMAE since ANDHC have been filmed 8 years later so for sure it cost more..And i guess if you have actors, you have to pay them, instead of Celine, i don't think she receive a paycheck, must be part of her contract And i didn't knew about TC, that's soooo great!! Or i guess we will had the recording sessions instead!! It's my favorite english music video since 2000! Love, Posted October 1, 2008 at 02:06 AM Posted October 1, 2008 at 02:06 AM (edited) I study filmmaking, so I know that that production can be very expensive. Music Videos are not cheap to make. It has a lot to do with the prices charged by the production companies and the "creative" team behind them, location costs, production costs, editing costs, special effects, and everything in between. I can give you a theoretical example of how this music video could cost so much:BUDGET EXAMPLEfor "A New Day Has Come" Music Video Pre-ProductionProducer's Fees - $75,000Storyboard Creation - $10,000Set Design Budget - $25,000Casting Director's Fees - $10,000Management Fees - $100,000 ProductionDirector's Fees - $200,000Production Team Fees - $150,000Actors' Fees - $75,000Set Design Budget - $75,000Stylist Fees - $10,000Film - $20,000Equipment Rental (camera, lights, sound) - $35,000Transportation - $45,000Costume - $25,000Filming Location Permits - $15,000 Post-ProductionFilm Printing - $15,000Editing - $50,000Special Effects - $25,000Printing and Optimization - $40,000 I can't believe. Céline's team pays 1 million for SUCHA mediocrity it hurts while the video to PQTME cost like 20 000 francs MAX and is her most amazing to date. So sad to see them waste so much money that could have been speant let's say on...promotion of the damn album? Is it me or have the quality of music videos gone way down in the past few years? New videos look very cheaply made. A sign o' the times for the music industry?—Chad, New YorkGood eye, "Chad," if that is indeed your real name. Über-director Dave Meyers, who directed Missy Elliott's 3-D blowout "Ching-a-Ling," recently told the Boston Globe that video budgets have dropped from roughly $1 million (for a major-label star) to an average maximum of $400,000. ("Ching-a-Ling" is an obvious exception.) Examples of the bygone $1 million videos include Britney Spears' "Boys," Celine Dion's "A New Day Will Come" and Shakira's "Objection." I mean a big WTF towards Céline and her absolutely hideously unimaginative and wasteful team of ppl. Edited October 1, 2008 at 02:09 AM by Love, Quote

autumnskies00 Posted October 1, 2008 at 06:52 AM Posted October 1, 2008 at 06:52 AM Music videos aren't cheap. At my internship, they talked about one of Sean Kingston's first videos costing half a million...and he's no where near as big as Celine!! No wonder we aren't seeing anything new, video wise. venezia7 Posted October 1, 2008 at 10:30 AM Posted October 1, 2008 at 10:30 AM I love the ANDHC video, i thinks it's beautiful. One of my faves i would say. I can also completely understand how it cost that much, especially after Love broke it down. Also as you say it's the artist that has to fork out for the video, well i doubt that Rene would let people rip him off. Prince Whiskers Posted October 1, 2008 at 01:13 PM Posted October 1, 2008 at 01:13 PM ANDHC became Sony's bestselling album of 2002 so it's fair to say that the investment on the video was worth it. Quote http://cdn.webecoist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/modern-pet-solo-blown-glass.jpg
