if you're going up there in February i'd definetely suggest you go to the Winter Carnival in Quebec I hear is one of the most important and fun events of the year.

if you like nature well yeah the Jardin Botanique is breathtaking...but in winter not so much....if you're looking for celineish hidden places try the Celineotheque aka Francofolies on rue Ontario link

i had the opportunity of living in montreal from feb until august this year so if you need any advice let me know i'd be very happy to help!

i don't know much about five star hotel's though...i'm more of a backpacker hostel kinda girl myself :)

but yeah you definetely can't miss the nuit blance , the festival en lumiere in jacques cartier, the ice hotel in Quebec (AmAZING!!) and don't leave without attending at least one hockey game

Thanks for the suggestions, there very helpfull!

Since I like Vegas also I can find some time to go to vegas ;)

I've always said that I wanted to go to the première of the new show and I still intend to do so... It would be great if we can get hold on a bunch of tickets to see this show with others from this board. But that is still future...

A new show won't go in première before 2011 so we have still a year to go.

I'll even hope to free some extra days next year to go to Vegas again. Vegas is a fun place to stay for just a couple of days... To bad that it takes quite some flying from here otherwise I'll go probably more to Vegas.

No problem, it wasn't like I was planning a meeting or so ;) Maybe someday, sometime (in Vegas?)... ;)

I love the cold... Actually I miss it here, we are having a mild (but rainy) fall and it seems that the winter will be the same so I would love to get somewhere cold :icon_mrgreen:

OK...

Change of plans... Since my father is still in the hospital due complications after surgery I had to cancel this trip. However, I'm still intending to visit Montréal this year. Probably during the last 2 weeks of July. Is this a good time to visit the area? I do like the winter better but since I have probably no choice then to go in summer I'll have to settle with that option.

It has some benefits though, I can use the daily Air Canada link between Brussels & Montréal that will open in the end of June (at least if the business fares are reasonable compared to United Airlines), so no need to hop on a small regional jet to get to Montréal from Washington.

Is there something special to see during summer? How's the weather?

Thx!

I loved Montréal in summer (August) and I would sooo LOVE to go back there one day but guess now the priority for me is to save & arrange everything for Vegas trip next year. ;)

The weather was warm but not hot, it was around 25 degrees Celsius buy sunny weather, I guess, so just fine.

I dislike winter but I'm also not a fan of really hot weather but it was just perfect! :D

If I'll be going again one day, I prefer it to be in summer again. Renting a car and cruise around Québec province must be great thing to do... ;)

You're lucky to be able to go there this year, yay!

Oh, and I really hope that your father will get better very soon - give hime my best "get well" wishes! :)

Stijn if you're planning to be in Montreal in July you can't miss the Fireworks tribute to Celine!!

Summer is the best time to visit Montreal for sure. You have the Jazz Festival, which is amazing, shows all day in the street, free concerts , the parade in the afternoon à la New Orleans style...then there's Just for Laughs festival which has some of the best comedians in the world come to Montreal to do shows as well. Not all the shows are free, though. After that it's the Francopholies with a lot of French singers, wonderful. I went to Mes Aieux concert last summer for free, it was amazing.

If you like adrenaline you can go to La Ronde (Six Flags park) with rollercoasters and big rides.

There's an island in front of the Old Port , you can reach it by metro. There is the Jean Drapeau parc, which hosts a lot of festivals during the summer as well. You can do some biking, even swimming (there's an artificial beach ), and if you enjoy nature this is the place to be. Full of beavers, squirrels, ducks, etc. There is a Biosphere which has an exposition about nature.

The Jardin Botanique is worth paying a visit as well. The Chinese and Japanese garden are gorgeous during summer, there is a Hiroshima ceremony in the beggining of August with the major and all. There is an insectarium if you are into bugs and stuff like that.

The Biodome is a very nice zoo you can visit too. And then there's of course the Olympic stadium which has an observatory to see all the city and it's the worlds largest inclined tower.

What else??? hahaha OMG i love montreal so much. well you can visit the Mont Royal of course, this is where you get some of the best views of downtown.

Near Montreal is Quebec City with tons of festivals during the summer too, so if you get a chance don't miss that

Thanks all!

But I doubt I can get out of Belgium this year... Though the situation with my father seems to have improved from a coma to the current state where he's awake, able to eat, drink, speak, walk etc... by himself again it seems that he's still very confused, still seeing things that aren't there, etc... I doubt it will get better in the hospital thought they are still doing all sorts of neurologic tests... I had a meeting this noon with the neurologic psycologist and she is going to examin him further. Even though every doctor told me they couldn't find anything previously they tranferred him from the abdonimal department to the neurologic department, doctors at the neurologic department told me they received my father completely dehydrated and with some serious infections and in a coma state, probably days away from dying... Now it seems they have even found 2 neurologic problems, but they didn't want to reveal much except it wasn't a tumor or anything... I hope to get more info soon before he will be transferred to a recorvery home...

Due the fact that my father will probably be in a recovery home for months (in the best case it turns out well and he'll be good enough to come home again), I've cancelled every travel for this year. Due the fact that there happend probably something in the hospital with my father which they won't tell me (and probably they are hiding) I'm thinking about pressing charges at the hospital to get more insight in my fathers file. If this doesn't get the results I'm hoping for then we'll probably going to take it a step further... Tommorow I have a meeting with my own doctor to discuss it and depending on what he says we are going to take action...

I've let my former doctor walk away with the death of my mother which was somewhat her fault due the wrong diagnose... She was lucky that she WAS a friend of the family but i'm not going to make the same mistake twice... If the doctors at the hospital did something wrong I want to know it...

Pfff life sucks sometimes...

My thoughts are with you, Stijn, and with your dad. I keep my fingers crossed that it will all turn out fine and that you'll find the right doctors and execute the truth on the facts about your father's health!...

As for Montréal, I fallen in love with this city and would so love to go there again - if only the flight wouldn't take so much time and so much money, hehe... ;)

Charlemagne is a charming little place, deffinitely a must-see for every Céline fan that happens to visit Québec province. But it's enough to go there for a few hours - I guess 2-3 hours are more than enough to see everything that's something to do with Céline there. :)

Ohh you're so lucky to go to Montréal!! :) It's one of my dream cities to get to one day. :)

I've heard there's at least supposed to be this "Just For Laughs" festival in July! Though I don't know if it still goes on, or if this information has gotten old.

There is going to be a huge Céline Dion fireworks show I believe in Montreal the first week in July! And they are setting it to Céline's music. I believe at least half an hour long! That would be fun :) July 10th!

I just went to Montreal for the first time this past weekend. I stayed at the Delta Montreal, which was a pretty good hotel. The first place I went to was the Notre Dame Basilica (for obvious reasons), as well as to Mont Royal which gave absolutely stunning views of the city. If anyone wants some photos, just send me a message, and I'll gladly give you some photos of the view.

Anyway, the big thing that I wanted to share with everyone is something that proves Celine is still the queen and love of all of Quebec, and Canada. I went on the trip as part of a college edcational tour within my university's business management department. Due to this, we were required to go to Quebec's government building and listen to a seminar informing us of Quebec's economic relations with the United States. Well, the guy who headed the seminar began by stating that during the mid-2000's, the three most popular shows in Las Vegas were headlined by French-Canadian entertainers. When he got to Celine, he said that people in the U.S. don't understand how popular and loved she is in Montreal, and in Canada. He later went on to tell us of her biography (much to the boredom of the other people in the seminar, who were mostly guys), and ended with telling us of which places in Montreal we should go to. He mentioned Notre Dame and said that Celine's wedding was broadcast on national television (which is crazy and amazing). So, my point is that despite what some people may say about Celine's discontinued influence in Canada, she is still loved and adored by the Canadian public....including the Quebec Director of International Economic Relations. Oh, and thanks for sticking in while I wrote this novella, I mean message. :D
