grobandion Posted July 23, 2008 at 02:24 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 02:24 PM Hi all I remember when I first heard "This time" I thought: "Wow, this is great. I love Celine dealing with social matters like abused women....it's the fisrt time she does this"But lately I listened once again to a very outcast and forgotten song in my discography, "Treat her like a lady" and found out Celine deals with something similar here too. Certain lines from "Treat her like a lady" caught my attention, like: "all that boy wants is to hit and run offHe and his friends-they sit and they laughGoing around talking 'bout the girls they used in the past" "She stopped going to church, she don't wanna go to schoolShe left with anger when he took her for a fool" "Right in her face with another womanNow she's in jail for attacking her man" "Anyone would rather be alone than be used" "You're gonna get what's comming to youfor all the bad bad thing you do to your lady" I know "This time" is a few steps beyond on the abuse subject, and speaks openly about physical abuse, instead of emotional/psycological abuse, but I honestly never paid attention to THLAL before, and it really surprised me to find out it was an approach to this terrible situation many women suffer around the world, only this time speaking about a teenager I believe it's great that she also sings about social problems, like she does in many many French songs Want to know what do you think. And I'm gald to find out more songs like thisI agree with the arrangements, that's the reason actually I don0t like the song...too Britneyish gracias for the song Quote
WallsDoTalk Posted July 23, 2008 at 03:06 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 03:06 PM Thanks a lot GD and Davey for those songs...To be honest, I never listen to them, I'll give them a new "listening" right now.I believe THis Time is way more adult and hard, in its subjetc and the way it's delivered by Celine Quote

maceta_biloxi Posted July 23, 2008 at 06:06 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 06:06 PM I love This Time, it is such a strong and empowering song. Love it. TT= YES it's a powerful song, the feeling in it is very very nice. Teaching the women. THLAL= Is more like teaching men a lesson. LIAWN= is more like giving hope about love and ho wit can change abuse. This 3 songs are kinda on the same line but the meaning is a bit different. I think TT is powerfull and puting the finger on the right place, everyone knows by listening to it ones where the song is about, the other 2 needs a few listingings before you know it.. I think Céline should do more of this kinds.. THLAL is faaaaaaaaaaar better than TT. :sofunny: Quote Elle est mon idéal, La plus grande étoileWill be going to Celine march 2 and 5 2016 and June 20 and 21 2016
CelineRules! Posted July 23, 2008 at 07:50 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 07:50 PM (edited) I always find it difficult to listen to This Time. The lyrics are so spot on.....I guess it's different when you've lived in a similar situation. My so called 'father' was an a**hole like that.... Thank God my Mom was strong enough... It's like that song is her story.. Edited July 23, 2008 at 07:52 PM by CelineRules! Quote
reamary Posted July 23, 2008 at 08:43 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 08:43 PM I believe THis Time is way more adult and hard, in its subjetc and the way it's delivered by Celine I agree that This Time is more "adult" and hard, more serious than those other two we're talking about. It's like someone's saying "I'm really serious here, I've had enough this time." Treat Her Like A Lady is still a little less serious, though it's also like an angry woman's message for a guy who's not treating her well. But I think this song isn't about physical abuse, but betraying and the guy having another woman. While This Time clearly speaks about physical beating. But in my opinion, Love Is All We Need speaks about not caring other people around in general, not about women specifically. So to me it falls into a little different category than This Time and Treat Her Like A Lady. Well, those are just my opinions about these songs. Well it's a long time ago now. It's just that I'm someone who always listens to lyrics when I first hear a song... I don't know how some people can listen to a song without knowing what it's about.. And man...., the first time I heard it, I really had to sit down and listen to it to the end...I always think of my Mom when I hear:'Your world remains a mystery You cannot get the best of me'That is so her. I wish she could have heard this song... Quote
MTJ Posted July 23, 2008 at 10:02 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 10:02 PM Well I think Celine is happy to sing This Time not only because it speaks of such a powerful subject, but also because -as we saw in the sessions- she likes songs that make her emotional. It's certainly a very personal and emotional song -more so than Treat Her Like a Lady- but I don't like Ben Moody's production of it sounds just like all the Evenesance hits. It's kind of passé. I prefer Treat Her Like a Lady, mostly because it shows that she has a wide range in singing styles. Quote
CellyDee87 Posted July 23, 2008 at 10:39 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 10:39 PM I had never really noticed the similarities in subject matter, but yes the three of those songs are strikingly similar. Of course with This Time the content is more obvious. Quote
Javier_Natalio Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:41 PM Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:41 PM I don't see similarities, sorry. Cheating is a very different thing than beating. And neither one of these songs is included on my favs list. I will say this: A good remix could have saved LIAWN just like EOM was redefined by it's remix. Oh well. Quote
Kitty. Posted July 24, 2008 at 12:25 AM Posted July 24, 2008 at 12:25 AM (edited) I deffinitley prefer This Time, i think it's such an emotional and powerful song and only Celine could deliver it like it is to give as much impact. Treat Her Like A Lady is aso great but i think This Time just speaks total volumes. After seeing the recording studio video on youtube for it, to me, it means even more now. I love it, it's an amazing song and one of my favourites for sure. Edited July 24, 2008 at 12:27 AM by Kitty. WallsDoTalk Posted July 24, 2008 at 11:39 AM Posted July 24, 2008 at 11:39 AM It's obvious the three songs share similar subjects, and I really can't believe coments like "get over yourself" or "A remix would have saved the song"Those comments are unbelievable shallow, and completely missing the point... Jan Posted July 24, 2008 at 06:58 PM Posted July 24, 2008 at 06:58 PM It's an exciting idea to compare these two songs, I've never thought about it before. THLAL is not that serious as someone wrote above, it's just a woman lecturing his man for not treating her well (not necessarily physical abuse rather cheating) in a rather entertaining way. This Time is really far more beyond, out of the songs on TC it was This Time that affected me the most. I'm really proud that Céline recorded this song and I believe that a video clip with Céline acting the abused woman would (have) be(en) a huge hit. I'm sure people would stop thinking about her as the woman who sang MHWGO. Someone mentioned LIAWN. That's a real controversial song. I didn't like it too much when I first listened to it, but paying attention to the lyrics changed my opinion. The style is still not close to me, but I appreciate the song as a whole. Quote
Javier_Natalio Posted July 24, 2008 at 08:02 PM Posted July 24, 2008 at 08:02 PM I wish I knew how to multiquote, but sadly I never learned. A couple of people didn't like my comment about wanting a remix for LIAWN. Well I'm sorry but to begin with, the song, being treated in that cheap pop way, was stripped from any seriousness from the get go. A great remix would have made it listenable and it would have reached people. Someone said they didn't really pay attention to the lyrics when first listening to the song, and me too, I had to actually take a second and pay attention to really figure it out. I seem shalow to you? I don't mean any disrespect to abused people, or people that have been cheated on, I'm just talking about whether I like a song or not, or whether it has reached me at all or not. THLAL and LIAWN never did it for me, and I blame the music. That is what's shallow, not me. Quote
Nando Férri Posted July 24, 2008 at 08:53 PM Posted July 24, 2008 at 08:53 PM I like the beat of LIAWN. Very heavy. Too me, the only thing weird is her voice that has that "britney" effect. Quote http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4ejungtQy1r9swpco6_250.gif
