French songs translated would be huge hits

A Cause! OMG I lurve that song so much. If it were in English, I think it could be a huge hit in the U.S., as well as the rest of the world. The beat is so modern, yet it's unique in a way. Plus I could sing to it, lol.

I saw on the New Day documetary some guy told Celine that he learned French because of her and then he cried.... I too wish I understood French so I could listen to ALL her songs. But I'm glad Pour que tu m'aimes encore was recorded in English because it is such an amazing song. BEAUTIFUL lyrics. "every second I live, thats the promise I make, till there's no more to give, IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES"

I LOVE PQTME but If Thats What It Takes isn't a patch on it, its not a translation in the literal sense either, though it does have a similar aim.

Je Sais Pas and its English alter-ego I Don't Know is an example of a French song working in English, though I still prefer Je Sais Pas. Can't imagine S'il n'en restait qu'une in any language apart from French. Its just too beautiful to tamper with.

 

Have to agree with several posts though - A Cause would be a massive hit in English - I've been stared at more times than I care to remember when I'm bouncing in my car along to it at traffic lights!

I have to agree with everyone that has brought up the idea of Celine working with the musicians from her French albums on and English album. I have thought that would be a great idea for a few years now, and with the sharp contrast between D'elles and Taking Chances, that seems like an even better idea. I think if the English speaking world understood the caliber of the music Celine makes in French, and that was somehow applied to her English music, there would be less of the notion that Celine is an over-the-top cheesy singer. It would be great for the emotion, musicianship, variety and subtlety of her French music to be showcased in her English work so that people see her as more than a power-ballad singer. Whether such a venture would include translations of existing songs from French to English is debatable. I agree that a lot of the song's original meaning is lost in translation, but I personally have no problem thinking of, for example, "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" and "If That's What It Takes," as two separate songs. While I don't think it would be a great idea to make "D'elles: The English Version," I do think there are some French gems that could be reworked into meaningful English counterparts.

I agree with it and also wanted to add a point i think many of you may have not thought of.

As i have stated before on past posts,for years i did not listen to hardly any of Celine's french songs as i love understanding what someone is singing and singing along(MY OPINION PEOPLE ),with the exception of D'eux.My opinion has changed over the past couple of years(and im not trying to discuss this on this post! ) but i can understand why they translated these great songs into English and placed them on an English album.There are alot of English speaking people who like Celine and buy her albums but are not as obsessed as we all are and also listen to her french music(I have 2 friends exactly like this!).So if this had not happened many people would probably have missed out on these beautiful songs,even though they are translations of the french ones.

Everyone has different tastes,and i personally have loved every song that has been translated from French to English(well apart from Ziggy maybe! ),AND i would love more(but not all!!).

I just want Celine's music to reach as many people as possible! (maybe make it a legal requirement to listen to Celine? )

I think that French songs are amazing how they are. I think it makes the songs more interesting. I love listening to them but I wish that I could understand what she is saying. I think if they were translated she might pull in more fan base because that is so many more spectacular songs out there for us to listen to and to understand.

If lots of her French songs were translated I think they would lose their charm. At least part of it - being sung in FRENCH. I do not mind that I have no clue what she is singing about, I can always check on some fan sites where they have the translations.

Hi esty...a few things I'd like to say

First of all, you are from Serbia. Just like me, we're both used to listen to songs in languages that is not ours, same with movies, we are used to subtitles

I believe american people isn't. They are used (and that's what it's successful) to songs in english.

That's why I thought that some of her amazing french songs, if translated to English, would be huge hits.

Through the different posts here, we had come to the conclussion that the best would be if Celine made English songs with her creative French team.

That'll be awesome.

i don't like as much the english versions of french songs. also, i think that the meanings change a lot...there are not the same words or phrases in english that are so emotional and have the same feeling to them. maybe change some english songs to french!!!

I dont think I would prefer the french songs in English although I have wondered what certain songs would sound like. If they were too I would choose
