nick1975 Posted April 26, 2008 at 05:33 PM Posted April 26, 2008 at 05:33 PM Hello, I am a fan from Montreal, Quebec and I am looking for the real numbers of Celine’s albums sales. According to the IFPI (the most reliable source), Celine Dion never was the best selling female artist. I find it weird because since 2004, Sony and a majority of cultural media have been claiming that she is. The following list comes from the Spanish IFPI Wikipedia page and the numbers do not seem to have been contested but, according to many, we can’t rely 100% on Wikipedia sources. Since we can’t rely on record companies sources because they blow up the numbers for all artists, does anyone have the real numbers and their sources? http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federación_In...ria_Fonográfica *Note that the numbers include album and single sales. 1.The Beatles ~400,000,000 UK 60s (1962-1970) Rock/Pop Guinness/EMI2.Michael Jackson ~350,000,000 US 70s-00s (1979-) Pop/R&B MJ Stats3.Elvis Presley ~300,000,000 US 50s-70s (1956-1977) Country/Rock4.Madonna ~275,000,000 US 80s-00s (1984-) Pop WBR5.Mariah Carey ~250,000,000 US 90s-00s (1990-) Pop/R&B6.Nana Mouskouri ~250,000,000 Greece 60s-00s (1959-) Pop7.Cliff Richard ~250,000,000 UK 50s-00s (1959-1969,1977-1979,1986-1999) Rock/Pop8.The Rolling Stones ~250,000,000 UK 60s-00s (1964-1981) Rock 60.5 million in the US9. Bellamy Posted April 26, 2008 at 05:43 PM Posted April 26, 2008 at 05:43 PM Sorry, wikipedia has nothing to do with IFPI. Not to mention those numbers are far off to the real sales numbers.Even mariah Carey's record label only dare to claim she has sold 165 million records, including albums, singles, videos. This wikipedia page claim she had sold 250,000,000. That's so funny. This is the best topic you can find info about sales numbers.http://www.celinedionforum.com/index.php?s...31&hl=chart Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Chula Posted April 26, 2008 at 05:53 PM Posted April 26, 2008 at 05:53 PM (edited) The best selling artist has to do with ONLY album sales, NOT singles. That's why Sony in 1998 encouraged people to buy the LTAL album by limiting the number of the MHWGO single at 500,000-600,000 units. Edited April 26, 2008 at 05:55 PM by Chula Quote

nick1975 Posted April 26, 2008 at 09:46 PM Author Posted April 26, 2008 at 09:46 PM this is the whole point: Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source, neither are record companies and certainly not Sony Music. The IFPI produces a list of best album sellers, but the access to it isn't free, does anyone have it? Quote
nick1975 Posted April 26, 2008 at 09:49 PM Author Posted April 26, 2008 at 09:49 PM there again Bruno, these numbers were published by Sony or Celine's entourage, they're not reliable and there is no way to verify if they're accurate. Quote

Bellamy Posted April 27, 2008 at 04:10 AM Posted April 27, 2008 at 04:10 AM World Music Award gave Celine the title Best Selling Female Artist Of All Time in 2004 with SONYBMG and IFPI. If you believe IFPI only, this is the closest truth you can get. Otherwise, you need to ask IFPI about it yourself, they won't answer though. Your_Su_Phu Posted April 27, 2008 at 06:17 AM Posted April 27, 2008 at 06:17 AM (edited) There is no such thing as a 100 percent reliable source for global album sales... What we do know is Celine is at the very least one of the top selling female artists in the world. While no one has 100 percent reliable global sales for the albums of each artist - we DO have certifications. Certifications don't really represent all of the sales but they can be a guide for who has sold the most and are much more reliable than random figures thrown out there. Based solely on certifications I believe it's something like: 1. Madonna2. Celine3. Mariah Celine and Madonna's sales certifications are very close to each other, Mariah is further behind But then again these are based upon certain individuals' calculations of certifications and are still far from "official". Even if you get IFPI figures do you really think that's 100 percent reliable source for global album sales? I don't think that's possible. We'll just have to live with the fact that Celine is at least one of the very top best selling female artists i watched the world music awards 2006 michael jackson sold more than 750.000.000 record sales...i`m so sure celine sold nearly 250M The MJ figure (as well as the Celine one you have) sound so bloated and unbelievable. These are the same people who want to claim Michael Jackson's "Thriller" sold 104 million copies. World music awards is just as unreliable as record labels. And btw, that whole debacle about Nana Mouskouri's sales is fake fake fake Edited April 27, 2008 at 06:25 AM by Your_Su_Phu Quote
