More Stars Align for Idol Special

Idol hands-on-deck are Fox's playthings.

 

The network has unveiled a second impressive batch of stars who have signed on to appear in American Idol's second annual "Idol Gives Back" charity special next month, which will once again raise funds for U.S. and international causes.

 

Forest Whitaker, who appeared last year as well, will be back to make a plea for viewer donations, to be joined by Jennifer Connolly, Amy Adams and the network's own Kiefer Sutherland.

 

Robin Williams and Billy Crystal will also make guest spots on the one-night, two-hour special, along with fellow funnyman Dane Cook.

 

As Simon Cowell is so keen to remind contestants, American Idol is, above all else, a singing competition, and as such some impressive musically inclined stars have also joined the guest spot ranks. Friend of the show Celine Dion will appear, as will High School Musical stars Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale.

 

Idol alums Eliott Yamin and Fantasia have also signed on.

 

Earlier this month, Fox rolled out the guest star big guns, unveiling the first batch of A-list supporters to lend their celebrity to the worthy episode. Brad Pitt, Bono, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox, Snoop Dogg, Fergie, John Legend, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry were revealed as participants.

 

Last year's inaugural event raised more than $76 million for a variety of charities at home and abroad, all of which benefit underprivileged and poverty-stricken children.

What excatly does "appear" mean? Is it like waving hello from a dressing room via satelite, or something as marvellous as last year??

 

And no not Alone dammit, Stevo hush, I would love another new cover performance or a song which have been performed by the contestants many times (Céline's own songs, not Heart's songs) - for example I Surrender.

 

Please Céline do not sing obvious picks like MHWGO or BYLM, and not hits which never really were hits lire I'm Alive, Taking Chances or Alone. Bring on something new most prefferably.

if she performs at all it should be a cover of a classic or fade away...NOT ALONE. especially since AI contestants (INCLUDING from this season) have already performed it. and let's be honest, these are all amateur singers whose voices have not been strained/who have to give it their all each night (to prove themselves) rather than saving their voices (just yet) and so celine performing alone will just be dissapointing. although not as dissapointing as mariah's performance on there will be

 

i'd much rather celine just appear to talk/or in a video clip than to perform alone if that's the song..

 

but this is REALLY good news. when i heard mariah was gonna be on i was like where's celine?!?!? taking chances plug much?!?!?

Seriously, since when have they promoted a single before it is even announced to be out in like three months? She always perfom songs which have been singles already for too long.... remember Immensité...

 

And people please stop wishing for Fade Away to be a single, since when did they release single material as singles? They didn't do it with I Surrender, they didn't do it with Naked, nor Revlea, they didn't do it with Ain't Gonna Look The Other Way...

 

And the phrase "new single from her latest album" we are never gonna hear in connection with Celine Dion (there's always MHWGO, MHWGO and MHWGO). The only ones using that phrase is the phrase- and termabuser celindion.com, and when they do they are talking about a single releases three months ago and an album released 8 years ago.

The optimistic side of me has this view: Eyes on Me negotations have fallen through so it cannot be the second single. They have been asking for people's opinions of all of the songs on Taking Chances on celinedion.com because they are actually interested in what the fans think the 2nd single should be. Celine will be premiering said single on the American Idol special.

 

The pessimmistic side of me thinks that she will sing Alone with Heart via satellite.

She doesn't have to sing the next single from the album. Celine tends to do different things when she

does TV - not always the obvious next/current single. She may do something special like last year - NO ONE

expected that and it really got people talking!! Since she's on tour now she'll either do a prerecorded message or

a prerecorded performance. Whatever she does it'll be great!!
