How do you pronounce 'Celine'?

She doesn't really care HOW you pronounce it, as long as you KNOW who she is! LOL!!

What really bugs me (a pet peeve) is when the accent mark isn't over the e in her name - Céline!

My eldest daughter's name is Angélique and my youngest daughter's name is Renée - so when it isn't spelled with the accent mark it irritates the poo out of me!

a good way to learn Celine's own way to pronounce her name:

I'm Céline Dion

"Sister...Sister...Children...Children...And...And..." I'll go insane!

And that "And everything else you want me to be" was ! :P

Thanks for sharing!

I must have I made it clear right from the start**

In France it's pronounced Say-lean but in Québec you're more likely to hear Say-lin - at least that's my experience.

I'm from Quebec and my first language is French. The "right" way to pronounce it according to our accent is more like you just said Say-lin...and not "lean"... I think you call it a short vowel and not a long vowel (as in lean). It might be more like the "i" in "pit" or "rid". There's also a difference between French from France and Quebec. The "i" in Celine is more tensed in France and more relaxed in Quebec.

For Dion, someone said the "n" was silent and it's true. In French we have nasal vowels that you don't have in English like the "on" in Dion. It would be easier with a phonetic transcription. I hope it's clearer now. :)

Nice explanation! Thanks :flowers:

I've always called her Ce- leen, but it's really interesting how many different ways of saying the name.

as a french name, if there is a 'e' following the 'n', the 'n' is pronoucne as a consonnant, but explosed, which is different from english, so after the 'n' sound, you have to leave your tongue from the 'n' position

I always pronounce her name with the E in Celine more like an A but short not long so SA not SAY, and the line like LEAN too. I pronounce Dion like DE-ON where I say the n at the end. I have some French in me but I never learned French so don't pronounce it like they do. Edited by GiftedCeline

Basically you say it how celine would say the SAYLINE Soloution she uses for her nose!! :giggle:

:sofunny: :sofunny: :sofunny: :sofunny:

I think I should tell this to my doctor with the next Celine-Infusion I'll get :bye1:

SO...

that's what Wikipedia here in germany says:

Céline Marie Claudette Dion

Phonetic: [seˈlin maˈʀi kloˈdɛt djɔ̃]

so it's

[seˈlin djɔ̃]

and it should be all over the world

so do you guys over here write Düsseldorf? Or Köln? Nope... you all say Dusseldorf (you know, that a Dussel is something like a "dopey"?)

I think the accent is a French thing... and SonyBMG writes it in english without it as well, and I never heard, that Céline or Celine (or both) disagreed with that.
