smw Posted January 24, 2008 at 03:33 AM Posted January 24, 2008 at 03:33 AM So I was talking with some close friends, and they brought something to my attention. Is it healthy to be THIS supportive of someone? I could go into a detailed description about how people may put all of their energy into someone else, because they don't have the confidence to put it into their own, personal lives. But I don't think that's true for a lot of us. Personally, I am 100% dedicated to my theatre work, family, and relationships with friends. But I do have this need to feed myself with Celine knowledge. I do want her to succeed. I want to protect her - and sometimes that means lie for her. "No, she wasn't lipping". It's a big topic - but I'm curious. Quote

It's a big topic - but I'm curious. I'm so with you on this one! I think many of us have this in common; Celine is in our heart and our minds regularly. There is something about her that causes us to keep closely connected to what she's doing, to be her biggest cheerleaders, to care deeply about her happiness, her health, her safety, and to protect her soul. Maybe it's because a part of our souls are touched so deeply by her music, her voice, her being. I think this is a healthy obsession and I think she is worth it!! I am deeply committed as well to my social work, my boys and my partner, my friends, and my volunteer work, and my family doesn't mind the time I spend with Celine; they actually enjoy it too! Thanks for starting this topic! Quote http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/5273/18771156.jpg
RLAAMJR. Posted January 24, 2008 at 05:20 AM Posted January 24, 2008 at 05:20 AM Well, I'm a Celine Dion addict. But I don't lie. Lipping is not really an issue for me. before it was. But when I started working which involves talking for 8 hours everyday, you voice eventually strains right away so if I try to sing songs with high notes, I wouldn't really be able ot hit it or if I do, My voice is already gone on the next song. Celine lipsynchs rarely. Others lip more than her. Just don't lie about Celine. Quote

Filine Posted January 24, 2008 at 09:43 AM Posted January 24, 2008 at 09:43 AM Great topic, what's healthy...I guess a Céline addiction is more healthy than smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, it's more healthy than drinking more as you should. I grew up with Céline and her music. She's been there practically every day since I was fourteen. Of course you grow up and to me it's no longer about collecting, plastering all my walls, taping every performance...that's faded to the background a long time ago, but to me it's about doing something worthy in life, also with the part of me that's a 'fan'. We all know music has a huge influence on many lives, it doesn't matter if you listen to one artist over and over again or to many different songs from different artists. Basically everybody on this planet has favourite songs that will get them through a crappy day, or will make them dance, or cry, or laugh, or remember. What's wrong with that? What's wrong about seeking for support or for a common passion or for friends who believe the same? I strongly believe that music brings people closest to their inner self and make them reflect, if there's one medium to transfer emotion it's music. Céline fans are often ridiculed, so is Céline, because we believe in our emotions and our dreams...we don't care if they are the biggest cliché's around and from the amount of Céline fans around I wonder who is wrong...I think it's the others, that can do nothing but accuse us of being cheesy, unhealthy, addicted to 'something' that doesn't exist. They are so wrong...Céline is not our life but she stands right next to us For me it's basically so that I support Céline because she believes in the same things I do, her music and live give me inspiration to do the best I can with my own life. Because of her I met people, who are now my best friends because we are so alike in many different ways, we believe the same way, we see life the same way are and as dedicated to what we do in our lives. Céline inspires me to go out there and make the best of myself. Together with my Céline friends we've done things for Céline and other people that I'm very proud of. It's only a little contribution to the world, but every bit counts. Being a Céline fan makes me more more happy and healthy than I could ever be and whatever they say, whatever books they write about it or whatever critisism from whoever...I don't care. I stand up for myself and this is what I believe...take it or leave it... grobandion Posted January 24, 2008 at 11:06 AM Posted January 24, 2008 at 11:06 AM I think I would be more obssessed with Celine if I had the chance. What I mean is that most of her albums are not available here. None of her CD singles, almost none of her DVDs (actually "Live in Las Vegas...A new day" isn't) there is no merchandising available at all, and off course I never ever had the chance to watch her live, or even watch the TV shows she appears (like the CBS special that's on its way)All I do is come to this forum and try to catch up with what she's into. But it really doesn't affect my life,a t all.My family, friends and work is first, off course.Kisses to you all, from this side of the planet Quote

ashleylovesceline Posted January 24, 2008 at 11:27 AM Posted January 24, 2008 at 11:27 AM (edited) There's nothing wrong with it - unless, of course, it's out of control. If you find yourself going into debt... or everything you do revolves around her -- I would say you're going overboard. No, it's not illegal or a hazard to your health - but it's not good for you. I remember Céline said in "For Keeps" -- it makes her sad when a fan ‘stalks’ her or has nothing in their life but being her fan. She doesn't want them to realize years from now that they should not have been observing her life, they should have been living their own. Céline has and will always be a big part of my life, but she is not my life. I spend more money than I should on going to see her and buying her albums, etc. - but it's not excessive. And I do check this forum everyday, listen to her at least once a day, and cannot miss a TV appearance - but that's just because I am a supporter of her. Yes, I wear clothes with Céline's name on them a lot, but I'm proud to be her fan!! And it's true... she brings people together, I've made so many great friends because of our common bond being Céline. She has impacted my life in so many ways, but there is more to me than being her fan! Edited January 24, 2008 at 11:31 AM by ashleylovesceline Quote

I really don't understand certaint actions like calling radio stations to vote, or buying twice the same CD, or wearing T-shirts with her name, etc, etc. I am a fan of Celine, I love her and her music...but I don't need everybody to feel the same way, or to buy her records, or listen to her music...to sum it up, I don't need to "reclute" fans. I love her music myself, and that's enough. I respect all of the other fans who feel the need to do that "supportive" things, but I really don't care if she's the bvest selling female of all time or not, I just want to listen to her music.Respect. kathyc25 Posted January 24, 2008 at 03:41 PM Posted January 24, 2008 at 03:41 PM I`ve become a little obsessed yes, but I have other things in my life that are more important. My music, graphic arts, my partner...my kitty . And I think that its ok so be obsessed with Celine as long as it dosn`t take over your whole life. And also I find that I don`t always look at her with rose colored glasses either. I feel like that there are some fans that would never criticize anything she ever does and she`s completely perfect and all of her songs are perfect and they would never skip any of her songs because they are "TRUE" fans. I love Celine, I don't think about her 24/7 and I have many things in life that my time is dedicated to, but there are times when I made a choice to see a Celine show instead of going to an important family function. The way I see it is...I may never get this opportunity to see Celine again. Celine has been a part of my life since the tender age of 12...and being that young, people make an impression on your life...and well I'm sure her impression is evident on mine. Don't worry! I knew exactly what you meant! Celine is indeed a great role model... I think she's a fantastic example of what a woman and a mother should be... Celine has so much class and really wants the best for everybody! As far as Christina is concerned... I know she has been given so much grief about her clothing choices in the past... And we all know she has even been called a slut and labeled as trashy. Personally, I don't think she's neither of those things. I think she was just misinterpreted due to some past clothing choices and the video she did for "Dirrty". And even though Christina has been so criticized for so many reasons, I think she actually is very stable. Though in the past she has gone out with her friends to have fun, you don't see her getting drunk everynight at clubs or making a spectacle of herself. At age 27 and with almost 9 years in the business (not including her days on the Mickey Mouse Club), she has recorded some very good quality albums... And we all know she has done many collaborations that her contemporaries can only dream about. She's now married and has a newborn son. She appears to be living her life decently. So, I think that she's doing much better than a lot of people in Hollywood and the industry! Edited January 25, 2008 at 10:15 PM by scorp82 Quote
sangstar Posted January 27, 2008 at 11:08 AM Posted January 27, 2008 at 11:08 AM For me I started off obsessed when I first became a celine fan, every converstaion i had went back to celine in some way.In school everyone knew me and my sis for celine, when we left and people write messages, there was message to me and most people incorporated celine in some way lol. My french teacher wrote me a message, and something i should tell celine when i see her lol When Celine took her break I took a break aswell. After Celine's break im not an obsessed fan, but she's still my role model, and someone i admire. Im 25 now so unlike before my walls are no longer plastered with celine, except for a Lets Talk About Love poster; celine's huge face, so she's always watching over me.I think Dave Platel said it right, Celine's fans are for life, so even if she's not around me every second of the day (except for whenmy mobile rings and celine starts singing quelqu'un que j'aime, quelqu'un qui m'aime!), she's a VERY important part of my life, without Celine i know i wouldnt be the person i am today, she is my 2nd mother after all. Cesdra Posted January 27, 2008 at 01:10 PM Posted January 27, 2008 at 01:10 PM (edited) I can get obsessed with something or someone I really love, but only for a while. Maybe a few weeks. Then it ebbs and I still care about them a lot, I am just not obsessed anymore. I think, these times come when you need an escape from your life. When your workload is too much, too many exams, stress with your family or friends. That's when you get obsessed with something else. For some it's videogames, for some it's drugs and for others it's music. To me, music is the best drug of all. I am high on music! I became a FAN of Celine only recently. I used to be a HUGE Shania fan, but this break was really long....?! Anyway, I don't excuse for being a Celine fan and I don't lie. She is a great singer and I got to know her as a great person, too. If others don't like her - FINE! I do like her, a lot! And let's be honest: anyone, who pays around 200 bucks for ONE concert ticket IS a bit obsessed.
