Black Kitten Posted January 21, 2008 at 11:57 AM Posted January 21, 2008 at 11:57 AM It's very rare for a pop artist to crossover from pop to country music. Do you think Celine has that 'magic' of singing country songs? I do believe, Celine only have 3 country songs under her belt. But for me, her best country song is Goodbye's (The Saddest Word). Quote
Davey84 Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:15 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:15 PM Céline doesn't have any country sounds... GTSW is definatly NOT a country song and anything that might even come close to country is Faith Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
miracle_girl Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:20 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:20 PM Yeah i would agree with the person above me she doesnt really have a full on country songalthough I suppose "At Last" sounds quite countryish.... Lymon Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:27 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:27 PM I don't think Goodbye's(The Saddest Word) is really country. Maybe a tiny bit, but not a whole lot. Faith is the closest she has come to Country, and Faith is probably the worst song she has ever recorded. I'm not sure how well she would do with Country. She doesn't have the right sound for it. firebird Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:31 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:31 PM Don't know. How do you define a country song? Isn't it basically just American folk music? Anything that has a fiddle and a steel guitar on it? Half of what comes out of Nashville these days doesn't sound like that and still it's labeled as country. Quote
peo Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:39 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 12:39 PM Well, she has the voice for anything. It would be nice if she could do one song. Black Kitten Posted January 21, 2008 at 01:18 PM Author Posted January 21, 2008 at 01:18 PM thanks for correcting me since i really don't know what "exactly" country music is. i picked GTSW because it was written by RJ LANGE who wrote almost all shania twain songs which is a country-pop song. but my definition of a country this time (since celine is definitely not a country artist) is an easy listening music with guitars, country twang. when i think of a countryish celine song, i can only think of 3 songs, IWCT, GTSW (both written by lange), and Ten Days. I don't think Faith is a country song since it has many effects on her voice and the instrumentation. And i do believe RNTTRO is a folk song. correct me if im wrong folks. Quote
Davey84 Posted January 21, 2008 at 01:41 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 01:41 PM Look on Utube for George Straight, Dolly Parton, Heather Miles, Garth Brooks etc etc... then you'll get an idea of country! Attendais Posted January 21, 2008 at 03:00 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 03:00 PM Celine would be quite nice country singer - I have to claim.Ehh... we all know that Celine is the Meryl Streep of MUSIC She'a able to do everything! The best song for country version? I think "JE LUI DIRAI" Quote http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff31/Takin_chances/jetaimeencoresing.jpg "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes"
Esty Posted January 21, 2008 at 03:33 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 03:33 PM Most the aforementioned songs in this thread have country elements but are not pure country songs IMHO. I think Celine's voice wouldn't fit that genre even if we like to say she can sing any kind of music she wants, but there are simply genres that wouldn't suit her. Most of the songs of 1f et 4t have that "countryish" feeling, and Faith is more of a pop/rock song, GBTSW is a pop ballad... Quote
grobandion Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:06 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:06 PM since I'm from Argentina, I really can't get the whole concept of "country music", but from what I've heard taht people call country, I agree that Celine doesn't really ahs a song 100% countryI would say though, that "A WORLD TO BELIEVE IN" is her closest effort of a country song.If walls could talk too. DuonganhCDF Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:15 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:15 PM (edited) 'A world to believe in'??? Closest? IMO, its just far like the distance from the moon to the earth. Have never known some country song with that much screaming and high notes...and less guitar. The only Celines english song sounds countryish to me is Right next to the right one. Nando Férri Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:18 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:18 PM OMG! Read that "That's just the woman in me" (rockish/blues), "At last"(blues) and "Goodbye's"(AC) are country songs is VERY weird. Even "Right next to the right one"(folk music) isn't a country song! "Retiens-moi" is the most close song that she has of a country sound. And I LOVE THAT SONG! Quote http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4ejungtQy1r9swpco6_250.gif

I am a huge fan of country music, and I agree with you that AWTBI has a lot of feel to a country song. I once posted that if the arrangement is changed a bit and country backing vocals are added, it could be huge on the country charts. Quote
fred Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:26 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:26 PM The most country I've heard from her is the Blueberry Hill performance with Johnny Hallyday - although that nutty host named is at blues... /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
Alex_Incognito Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:29 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:29 PM "Ne bouge pas" has HUGE country influence and "Naked" has a country/pop influence. I wouldn't call "Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)" country. Wasn't it written by Mutt Lang or someone like that? I believe he worked with Britney Spears, too. Cesdra Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:44 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 04:44 PM well, mutt lange also worked with AC/DC and Bryan Adams AND The Backstreet Boys, only to mention a few! Are they country? Goodbye's is NOT a country song. Even Shania's music isn't traditional country. I don't think all this labeling is helpful. But for the sake of discussion: I don't think Celine has a country voice and would do well on country. She is great at what she does. Taking Chances album is amazing, her best, I think! She doesn't have to go country and she shouldn't IMO! Quote

tonybower Posted January 21, 2008 at 05:05 PM Posted January 21, 2008 at 05:05 PM I think the songs from 1F et 4T that have been mentioned could qualify as country(ish). I love 'Right Next To The Right One', probably one of the best songs on the new album. However, one song that sounds very country to me and which i ABSOLUTLEY LOVE, is 'No Living Without Loving You' from The Colour Of My Love.Okay, I didn't always like it and I know not many people like it in this forum, but I think it's a great song.
