So this happened. I'm quite surprised because I thought they don't have a beef anymore, but then again, it's memoirs so it's only fair to mention that how she felt that time.

It's just funny how 2 people have different approach. One didn't want to touch her goddess, another (celine) wanted to feel her and enjoy their special moment.

At the end of the day, Celine was the one invited to sing for Aretha's tribute. I'm sure Aretha was impressed by her. Otherwise I'm sure we would've heard so many times her shading Celine as she never had a problem shading others

I can feel Mariah. She and Celine are apparently different. Mariah may seem like the ultimate diva but I believe she's an insecure person deep inside. Celine, on the other hand, is very lively. So that's what makes the difference in their approach and attitude towards the same situation.

That’s because Mariah cares about the the label and behind the scenes stuff, Celine never has. Which only hurts the fans, in the end of the day Celine is the boss, if she pushed her label/ team for more vaulted songs, more box sets, vinyls, more music videos, all of that she would have been able to make it happen. But Celine doesn’t care to, she only cares about Residencies, and Tours.

I read it and listened to the audiobook, which is also amazing. It's definitely the best use of an audiobook format that I've listened to. It basically comes across as her telling stories about her life, all related to specific songs and lyrics, while singing acapella snippets for 11 1/2 hours. Tiny snippet of her singing Happy Birthday for example and also this for her father's funeral:

 

Anyway, there are quite a lot of revelations even though people thought they knew much of Mariah's story over the years. Quite a lot heartbreaking, told with humor and positivity and with meaningful lessons in between as they relate to her songwriting and lyrics.

 

Turns out she and her mother actually have a very estranged/complicated relationship. Worst thing I read in the book... when she got mad at her children or had issues with discipline, her white mother loved to fall behind white privilege and call the police on her non-white children over minor issues such as not answering the phone in Aspen during the one time she took her family there for Christmas and during what everyone thought of as the Glitter meltdown period. What on earth?!

 

Anyway, I'd love to have something like this from Celine or basically any of the stuff we've been getting from #MC30, but this has been a dream year to be a Mariah fan for sure! One of the few good things in 2020.

for her memoir i'm still waiting for the delivery............... but have started listen to the audio of it since yesterday about 3 hrs in only (out of 11hr)

If it comes to lyrics, probably Never Too Far, Never Forget You and The Wind. That's all that instantly comes to my mind.

My personal favourite is My All. Butterfly is a great song, too. The albums The Emancipation Of Mimi and Caution are just fine if you want to get to know the real Mariah Carey.

I'm not sure Mariah's fans are a lot older than Celine's are they ? It's just a question . They have the same age and started (well in USA for Celine as she already was a star in Quebec) in 1990. Maybe Mariah's register change in late 90's helped her to gain a new and younger audience back then, but nowadays I have the feeling (not a truth just a personnal statment) that Mariah's general audience and fanbase are in their 30's just like a majority of Celine's fans ?
