nystrele Posted January 14, 2008 at 05:55 AM Posted January 14, 2008 at 05:55 AM Hello my Forum Pals! i had the amazing pleasure of interviewing celine for 45 minutes tonight as she, rene and rene charles were en route to the airport for their vacation. they will be out of the country until the mid-february launch of the tour. celine was in wonderful spirits. she was funny, as always so very open (one of the joys of interviewing celine is that you barely have to prompt her with questions--you turn the key and she starts the engine!), very dear and shared so much. the article i am writing for a billboard special (feb. 16 cover date, feb. 9 street date) is called BILLBOARD STARS, and the Q&A with the artist is meant to cover an overall perspective of artistry, ambitions and accomplishments. so instead of just addressing "taking chances" (which we covered in the fall bb cover article) or the tour, we really looked back. here is a general list of questions that we addressed: * let’s start with unison… you had a successful career in French and were determined to cross over to English… why? * At that point, what were your expectations? You signed with tommy motolla the most powerful man in the business, you had david foster and chris neil by your side… and yet it had to have felt so new and uncertain. Did you dare to have expectations? * Beauty and the beast happens and suddenly everyone in the united states knows the name celine… how did that feel? * Power of love… no. 1… did you watch your ascension on the charts? Was having a no. 1 a marker of success for you? was it a thrill or was there a sort of sense of terror… now what? How maintain all that you had hoped for? * announcement of being in love with your manager... rene... on th album... * Falling into you… album of the year grammy.. I remember so clearly seeing that on TV and watching you stand up with a look of utter joy and exclaim… how did that feel… * jumping to December 31 1999. farewell concert in montreal. first break. I know you wanted to have a baby and give your body time to adjust… but in terms of career, you had never taken a break in your life… from 1981 to 1999, 18 years of working… at that point, did you feel that you had personally proven everything to yourself that you might ever need to… was it a time of solace….? * And now new tour… What are you looking forward to the most artistically that’s different from vegas? do you miss? * What have you not yet accomplished? * Let’s say that someone watching your TV special next month knows my heart will go on, beauty and the beast and the power of love. How do you think they’re going to react when they hear celine dion, the alleged power ballad singer, sing “that’s the just the woman in me.” * Sense of humor – the whole diva label I’ve never found to be true. You’re funny as hell and yet I don’t know that this has come through to the general public. Why? * What would people who know everything about you be surprised to learn about you? * most meaningful song in french/english? i cannot wait to share the full transcript.... i have 2,000 words for the Q&A. how will i fit it all in?! xoxoxoxoxoxo=chuck=

Celine was very successful in her French-lang. career that it was only natural for her to raise the stakes. She idolized people like Barbra, MJ and Whitney, and she wanted to be like them. She's a true-blue Aries: full of ambition and energy. And Sony Music knew that was an artist of international appeal when she won in Yamaha Song Festival and of course, in Eurovision. 2. Back in her "Unison" days, she said, "I'm almost afraid to say it but my dream is to win a Grammy award someday."3. When FIY won the Album of the Year award, I think she felt utterly grateful. I would not give up my jobs as parent and social worker, but would change places with you at least once so I could have a laugh with that "funny as hell" Celine of ours; I bet you didn't want those 45 mins to end. I am certain that the final interview transcript will be very well done and I am looking forward to Celine's answers to all those wonderful, well-thought out questions. Thanks for consulting the rest of us in preparing for this important interview; it proves just how much you love and respect Celine and that you understand how much Celine means to the rest of us as well.
