Koolan Posted August 20, 2008 at 02:54 PM Posted August 20, 2008 at 02:54 PM JSP is amazing!! I think she sung it better on the second night. No one mentioned that the drummer lost one of the sticks during IDAN Celine went to pick it up during the next song. Oh and before Celine came out, the audience were doing that "wave thing" (I don't know the name of it). They were definitely more into it on the 16th, we gave her many standing ovations. Most of my pics came out really crappy. Did anyone record My Love from the 15th? Kathy: your pics are not showing up. Hugh Mann Posted August 21, 2008 at 07:18 PM Posted August 21, 2008 at 07:18 PM Was anybody else disappointed that she didn't speak English at all during the August 15th show? There were some of us who attended the concert who are English speaking and it would have been nice for her to acknowledge us. A simple thank you or hello would have sufficed. Considering most (if not all) of her hits are in English, is that too much to ask? I recognize Montreal is mostly (not all) French.I appreciate that this forum is a Celine love fest, but I felt the need to bring this up, having paid good money to see the show. On a side note, my tickets were in 119, row V. There were two huge lights in my seats. After complaining, the security guards tried to move me to row W right behind the lights. Finally, the moved my wife and I to the 4th row next to Celine's sister and mom. That was pretty cool. Quote

Um, I think it's a bit much to expect Celine to speak your language in her country and provence where the language is in French! Why on earth would you expect that? Also I know that some of the Dutchies were there too and many people from other countries, so should she take 20 minutes out of the show to say hello in every language of the world? If you wanted/expected to hear English, don't go to a FRENCH show I'm looking forward to the Montreal show and I don't EXPECT her to speak english at all! If you wanted/expected to hear English, don't go to a FRENCH show I'm looking forward to the Montreal show and I don't EXPECT her to speak english at all! Speak my language in her country and "province" where the language is French? If you are familiar with Canada and Quebec which happen to be MY country and province too, we speak English and French here. In fact, 30% of Montreal is English. The concert wasn't in Paris where the official language is French , it was in Montreal where the official languages are French and English. A lot of those English speaking fans came out to see her that night. A simple hello or thank you would have been nice. It was a bit funny that she went on and on in French about how deeply she felt about the Prayer and then proceeded to sing it in English. I'm not denying she is an amazing singer. You don't have to get defensive about that and stand on a soapbox and say she can do no wrong. This is merely my opnion about something I found disappointing since I, along with thousands of other English speaking fans attended her concert. To compare us to a couple of Dutch fans is preposterous as I'm sure you would agree. We know Celine knows English. She interviews well in English. Her major hits are in English. Just say "thank you". That's all. Quote

Alex_Incognito Posted August 22, 2008 at 04:04 AM Posted August 22, 2008 at 04:04 AM (edited) Celine needs not to speak english at a francophone concert. Let's not get into the anglo vs franco Montreal debate here, but she's home where she started her career in French. When she performed her hits in her early career in Quebec there weren't people that said "why couldn't she do it in english?"So should she have learned every language in Africa to perform in South Africa this year (a continent where french is also widely known!!!)? Je ne sais pas pourquoi il y a beaucoup de gens qui pensent que tout me monde parlent l'anglais!!! Je crois que tout les fans de Celine Dion doivent apprendre le français. Is that really the reply you want to go with? If it was a "francophone" concert then why were 70% of her songs in English on Friday night? I'm not the one starting a anglo v franco debate here. All I said was I would have appreciated at least one word (other than all of her hit songs) in English. She may have started her career in French, but she wasn't selling out the Forum for multiple shows until she sang in English. And I think you and I both know that your ridiculous Africa analogy doesn't hold water as you appear to be intelligent enough to know that if she is able to sing in English and interview in English then she can probably spit out an English word or two at a concert in which 30% of the natives are English. I'm not some troll causing trouble here. Obviously, I found this site and paid a lot of money to see her concert because I am a fan of Celine. Obviously, you are too blind by her fantastic voice to see any flaws so I guess having an intelligent discussion is useless. Quote
