Alex_Incognito Posted February 18, 2008 at 03:22 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 03:22 AM Accents appear EVERYWHERE on the globe. No matter who you are, you have an accent. I love French Canadian accents, myself! Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990
Your_Su_Phu Posted February 18, 2008 at 03:35 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 03:35 AM it depends, celine's accent is a part of her, the entire package, so in a way it's endearing. but sometimes it's just too much..especially in recent years. Quote
Bellamy Posted February 18, 2008 at 03:36 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 03:36 AM Yes, it's funny sometimes. But it's cute. The people ridicule her for that should try to speak French as good as Celine speaks English. Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Jeffieboi Posted February 18, 2008 at 04:08 AM Author Posted February 18, 2008 at 04:08 AM it depends, celine's accent is a part of her, the entire package, so in a way it's endearing. but sometimes it's just too much..especially in recent years. I'd have to disagree. I don't think it's too much. It's barely even there. Maybe it's because in French Canada, things are pronounced similarly in English or something. I remember in the Callaway Golf Commercial...she had no accent at all, but I'm sure she did many many takes for it. The only times I really hear her mispronounce words are when she doesn't say the "H" sound (like the story in the Live In Memphis concert), and she makes the "D" sound sometimes instead of the "TH" sound. Quick question though for people who have a first language that isn't French or English...Have you heard Celine speak in your language? I heard she wanted to learn Spanish back in 1997, but I don't know if she ever did. And if you guys HAVE heard her talk in a different language...does she have an accent? Or even when she sings in a different language? Quote

I've always thought that in the beginning of her career her english was much better whilst singing because it was obvious phonetic memorization was a bigger part of it. whereas later on as she could communicate more freely in english she seemed to care less about perfect pronunciation. even from my 1st post I was referring to her singing, not speaking. when I listen to the color of my love, or even "later" albums like falling into you, let's talk about love, her english while singing is smoother to me. it's strange because at certain times such as during the falling into you era her english seemed to be at its best. like the quality of her english just went up and down at different points rather than rising or falling steadily :S Edited February 18, 2008 at 04:44 AM by Your_Su_Phu Quote

I thought you meant talking. While for the most part when I hear her sing...it sounds like English is her first language...I have to agree that occassionally nowadays, sometimes it's not spot on. I think that's because now she's an international superstar, and the pronouncation isn't as important since she's so famous and successful. Before she was still climbing her way to the top. Quote
scorp82 Posted February 18, 2008 at 06:57 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 06:57 AM I do think that Celine's English language skills have greatly improved over the years. Nonetheless, given that English is not her native tongue and she learned it as an adult, I think it is undeniable that Celine has an accent. When she speaks English one can tell she sounds like a foreigner speaking the language. But I love her accent! Quote
Black Kitten Posted February 18, 2008 at 07:27 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 07:27 AM celine speaks english fine and i love it. my only problem is celine always repeats what she says and i, sometimes feel sick and tired of hearing them from her mouth. the more she repeats herself, the more insincere she become. but who's to blame? she's still in the learning process. and after all, she said she's not an english artist. she will forever be a french artist. RLAAMJR. Posted February 18, 2008 at 08:39 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 08:39 AM I don't like her accent. I LOVE HER ACCENT. very expressive and uplifting. Well, her voice is still beautiful even if she only speaks and I really admire her 'cos she's really , really good in english. Quote

Davey84 Posted February 18, 2008 at 09:19 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 09:19 AM I luuurve it when she says de-liver instead of déli-ver it sooo cute! When she had a break, or a holiday, her accent is always more clear! Like after her millennium break and recently too, when she gave the heavily accented pressconference in SA! destin139 Posted February 18, 2008 at 10:08 AM Posted February 18, 2008 at 10:08 AM I love Celine's accent - i think it has such a nice flow to it - even though she's french canadian and her french is different to pure french, i love it when she speaks in french aswell - i would love to be able to speak two languages!! anna Posted February 18, 2008 at 12:49 PM Posted February 18, 2008 at 12:49 PM i think anywhere she goes she tries to adapt her accent to the language or place has anyone noticed her accent has surely changed since she's been in South Africa Quote
LasVegasCanadian Posted February 19, 2008 at 05:21 AM Posted February 19, 2008 at 05:21 AM Celine and Rene both definitely still have French Canadian accents. I am an "Eng;ish Canadian" living in the USA for the past 12 years and I still sound like I am from the Canadian prairies. Because the French language does not have the phoneme "th" in it, I distictly here "d" or "t" when she tries to say a word that has th in it. Hey, I can't roll my r's in the back of my throat even after studying French since Grade 4. Celine is distinctly French Canadian in her speech. She does speak English as a second language pretty good though! Aline (who grew up surrounded by another French Canadian dialect called Franco-Manitobain.) Quote
changepas39 Posted February 19, 2008 at 04:12 PM Posted February 19, 2008 at 04:12 PM i love her accent!! Quote http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f131/changepas39/f28ed0e8-0230-434c-9df9-6801977de1f0_zps821ef336.jpg
CelineAndRene Posted February 21, 2008 at 02:36 AM Posted February 21, 2008 at 02:36 AM I luv her accent, it is sometimes the MAGIC on the beautiful notes, artists that have accents are better than people without one i think Quote "...It's the circle of life. You gotta look forward. Two days during the year there's nothing you can do about: yesterday and tomorrow. Today is a great day." - Celine Dion, People.
Jeffieboi Posted February 21, 2008 at 03:44 AM Author Posted February 21, 2008 at 03:44 AM I went back and I listened to her speak in English again...wow...she really doesn't have that much of an accent. I'm actually shocked at how good her English is. She speaks it VERY very well...and that's not just a biased opinion. Her pronounciation is amazing. It's almost scary how dead on her English is. It's even SCARIER how accurate her singing in English is. Any American, Canadian, Brit, Australian (or anyone from a country who has English has a first language) who listens to Celine sing, would never guess English isn't her first language. That just goes to show you how much time and effort she puts into her career. Even when she was 15 or 16 and sang "What A Feeling" and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" before she even knew English...her pronounciation was almost flawless (as opposed to being completely perfect now). Damn, is this anything this woman can't do? I just listened to her sing "Over The Rainbow" BEFORE she even knew English...again, no accent. Is every French Canadian this good...or is Celine just THAT talented? Even when she sas the name "Judy Garland"...she says it perfectly. NO ACCENT! Damn, I wish I could speak a second language as well as she speaks and sings English. *Yo se que cuando yo hablo Espanol, yo tengo un acento.* (I know that when I speak Spanish I have an accent), but Celine's English is so dead on, and René's is almost perfect. It's almost supernatural how amazing her pronoucation is. It's probably because God lurves her more than anyone else in the world, and gave her this gift. Both of pronunciation and song. Quote
iloveceline22 Posted February 21, 2008 at 08:28 AM Posted February 21, 2008 at 08:28 AM if Celine didnt have an accent, i wouldn't feel as if its Celine. I think its what makes her Celine! I love her accent, i think its so cute. But i got to say, its gotten better over the years..i think because i listen to her and watch videos of her so much, i notice it or actually we as fans, notice it much more then others. when u look at in a way, she uses bigger words and doesn't use slang. Her English is sometimes better then the reporters...i hope you guys get what im trying to say. Quote Theres nothing more I want but to meet Celine Dion! " The Greatest Reward is the light in her eyes, the sound of her voice..." i love Celine so much!! http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n14/elojellokyank2/celine.jpg
GiftedCeline Posted February 21, 2008 at 05:07 PM Posted February 21, 2008 at 05:07 PM I adore Celine's accent, singing and talking both!! It makes her voice what it is, so unique!! It's just the sweetest, most beautiful voice ever!! Quote
