Canadian singer Céline Dion is to receive a Legend Award next month at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo.

 

The award, which recognizes global success in the music industry, has previously been won by artists such as Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Elton John and Luciano Pavarotti.

 

Celine Dion, performing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on May 7, 2006. The Nevada Tourist Commission plans to honour the Canadian singer in December. Prince Albert of Monaco will present the Quebec-born star with the award on Nov. 4, during the 18th World Music Awards ceremony.

 

In 2004, Dion earned a Diamond Award at the WMAs for selling more than 100 million albums worldwide.

 

One of Quebec's most beloved stars, Dion has agreed to perform next summer on the Plains of Abraham as part of Quebec City's 400th anniversary celebrations. She is scheduled to perform what will likely be a free concert on Aug. 22, 2008.

 

Dion is also to be recognized by the state of Nevada, where she has performed since March 2003 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

I have been informed that what I wrote on Sep 23 about Céline at World Music Awards in Montecarlo this year could be very true. I'll keep you posted. :flowers:

As, I already posted on Oct 6 I can now confirm Céline will perform at World Music Awards 2007.

 

The show will be broadcasted in the US on November 22nd at 8PM on My Network TV.

 

 

I was wondering what that channel was for... :whistling:

it's so obvious that they want celine there no matter what - her album is not out yet and she was not nominated there for years now . so they thought - "how can we get her here?" and then rene and the producers probably came with this idea . since celine already got the DIAMOND AWARD , like 2 years ago , they came with this one .

 

the only thing that matters is that she'll perform there live!! :wub:

I didn't understand what you said? Are you saying they just made this award up so Celine will be there? Or are you saying they are giving her this award so she will be there.

As you can see from previous posts...this is an official award that has already been received by the likes of Elton John, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and Luciano Pavarotti.

 

Other than that, I think it's about time Celine gets this type of recognition :yes: :clap:

That's what I was thinking too...I don't think Celine has received a "Legend" award of any kind yet , has she? I don't know if Queen of all Lambs has received the Legend award either. :hmm:

That's what I was thinking too...I don't think Celine has received a "Legend" award of any kind yet , has she? I don't know if Queen of all Lambs has received the Legend award either. :hmm:

 

She did as well!

 

So Céline comes out on top of them with IDEAL timing. :D

and we all know by now that facts r the last thing they care about - celine might be the best selling female artist in history but we all know they r using those exact same words when introducing mariah , madonna , whitney and so on....

No. WMA usually gives it to the most important celebrity on the award, except the Diamond Award winner of course.

That's great! But, you know, I have an idea. Why don't you add a poll, something like 'Which song do you think Celine will perform'? It's just a suggestion.

i think, at that time, she will be promoting her new album so of course she will sing TC or any other song from her album. she should do it.

 

and by the way, how to know the next single?

 

i guess, in the shows where she will sing more than Taking Chances, you can bet that those songs will be the most probably chosen as 2nd and 3rd single.

not necessarily - sometimes artists are more likely to sing something that wont be released.

 

Celine sang At Last on Parkinson during ANDHC promo because it was a well-known song.

 

She may sing Alone quite a lot in the promo but because it is a cover and it will get peoples attention but they maybe not want to waste it as being the 2nd single.

Not really, the other awards, including Diamond Award are based on sales. This one's just based on nothing but empty words: "in recognition of their global success and outstanding contribution to the music industry" that applies to anyone you makes records

It's just good promotion for Celine, that's all.

Just curious, what did Whitney recieve that year when Céline was there? Coz she too performed and that a medley....
