LVCeline Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Her voice really needs a rest! What note did she miss on ANDHC? Sounded like she normally sings it, lower than the album version, so the "high" note isn't going to be very high anyway. TPOL is atrocious. I hate the intro and I loathe recorded track she's used forever. Quote

Thomas Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The TPOL was terrible. Not so much her voice but the devide between live and, erm, not-so-live is glaringly obvious... Quote
Shaun Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Totally agree Thomas. She sounded good but it's just blindingly obvious nowadays. Also, Celine's pronunciation is becoming a bit lazy during the live part of the song so it's even more noticeable when the playback kicks in, as every word is pronounced perfectly. thevoice Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The TPOL was terrible. Not so much her voice but the devide between live and, erm, not-so-live is glaringly obvious... it's like that for the last 5 years Quote
Thomas Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I've been talking about the laziness factor for months now. Don't get me wrong, Celine is the one of the most energetic and lively performers there is, but I'm talking about her vocals. Singing the same thing literally hundreds and hundreds of times has taken it's toll on the way she sings. Her pronounciation has suffered and sometimes it sounds like she's slurring her words or drawing things out but I think it's because she's on the same stage every night and she just slips into this persona who sings things a certain way. People might not agree with me (and it's only my opinion) but I think Vegas has brought back the singing robot she used to talk about so often. Not to the same degree where she isn't enjoying herself, but to the point where everything's a routine and that includes the vocal performance. She goes here during this song, she dances over there during that song, she adds a particular note in during this part of the song etc. Because you take her out of Vegas and out of her comfort zone and all of a sudden her voice is amazing and clear again. Just like at the St Justine concert or the TF1 special. It's like she's more alert and more conscious of her voice and I think we get a better performance from her when she's not in the Colosseum, personally. Quote
stevo Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 That join in TPOL was v obvious indeed. Why doesn't she remix this song and turn it into an uptempo number? On Kylie's tour, she turned around loads of classics- really uptempo songs into slow ballads. I'm sure TPOL could be translated some other way. We've heard exactly same playback since I was in nappies. Well, not exactly Quote
Céline's Blues Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The TPOL was terrible. Not so much her voice but the devide between live and, erm, not-so-live is glaringly obvious... it's like that for the last 5 years Wrong. Ever since 1994. Thomas Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Back then it wasn't obvious though. Her voice matched it perfectly! But now, her voice has matured and it just doesn't work anymore. I think it's time to retire this song or change the arrangement completely and do something more gentle. Quote
Shaun Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 (edited) Let's not get away from the fact that Celine still sounds superb and no other singer can touch her. Yet the way she just sticks with the norm at these performances is disappointing. TPOL clearly needs updating OR Celine needs to look at her pronounciation again because as fans we can accept the playback but sooner or later someone in the press is going to put 2 and 2 together and notice because let's face it, it's obvious where the tape kicks in on TPOL. Hasn't Celine been involved in a lipping row in the press before and denied it? She needs to update the sound! She CAN perform just perfectly when, as you say Thomas, she's taken out of her comfort zone of The Coloseum. Look at the TF1 special, Saint Justine, Divas, World Childrens Day, Jerry Lewis Telethon and the Grammys over the past few years - flawless performances. I think it's time to retire this song or change the arrangement completely and do something more gentle. Well, the point is back then nobody had the MEANS to hear a certain song, performance 100 times to compare. That's where comparisons come from. We have 40 TPOL performances from Vegas and like ten from her former tours. So it's surely a matter of perspective and always always a matter of fan's attitude. I am not saying it's not obvious but many fans just don't realize the era we're living in is not what we had before. We had nothing before. Now we can analyze, scrutinize and denounce without hesitation. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg

Well, not exactly I think every song from AND (Except PQTME and RDMH ) Should be BANNED on the next tour OR transformed in a new sound so Céline would be enthousiastic to sing them again! I can't imagine Céline dropping WDMHBN after 6 years and singing TPOL for 14 years, BYLM and IACBTMN for 11 years and MHWGO for 10 years and still 'love' to sing it! stevo Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 She really must be so tired of singing some songs. I can't belive she's had the motivation to keep singing them in Vegas for so long. Well, $120 million or whatever it was is pretty god motivation I suppose Quote
krazy_kool_dude Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 for the first time, i have managed to hear the difference in TPOL. I didn't question it, but i could never tell when it started. I don't have a problem with it at this moment in time due to the amount of performing she has to do but after Vegas she should sing it completely live or just forget the song altogether and perform some new material. firebird Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 She really must be so tired of singing some songs.I actually thought that too. She sounds like she's tired or even bored of singing it. Her voice still sounds good, but I agree with Thomas, the pronounciation has become bad. On disc they can rework it to a certain extent, but here it's more than obvious, because you have the direct comparison. I mean her voice is still amazing, but if you get all that mumble slur hot potato in her mouth thing with it, it takes away from the song. Quote
celinefanonline Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 i thought it's just about the video and suddenly u guys r talking about her voice again...... anyway i just hope she'll sing all the songs 100% live in the last show 15th dec!!! Quote Courage don't you dare fail me now!
Céline's Blues Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 And for the record: She sounds FABULOUS on the live excerpt of TPOL. So warm and not scratchy at all, yes, she would have some problems with the long notes but nobody says she has to hit them 100% like she used to. I trade the current warmth and texture of her voice for the perfect but scratchy technical perfection she was back then. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
ByuSmurf Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 With all these comments... I'm glad she is ending the show in LV. Sounds like the repetition has bored Céline, too! About the only song I'm NOT sick of in the show is I Surrender, but that is one of my all-time FAVORITES!! I automatically shut off the radio if MHWGO comes on! And I can only imagine how irritating it has been to sing this song night after night for 5 friggin' years!! I'm also glad I got to see ANDLV in 2003 when her voice was SUPERB and she had Et Je T'aime Encore in the show. Can't wait to see her performing NEW music!! idroveallnight Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 My gosh, TPOL. Just seriously blew me away...the way Celine sounds so completely different before they kick on the playback. It sounds like she's lengthening every single word with a nasal ring for some reason and then the fake track starts and she remarkably sounds 10 years younger. It would just be so much better for her if she'd lipsynch that song start to finish, especially for the audience because they sounded much more alive during the playback portion. If you watch the opening night performance (from 4 years ago) of this song, it's really not as obvious when the playback is bumped on. Quote
