Frida Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Hellooo all bored forum addicts! lol I think the topic title says it all, but what does your name (or names) mean? Do you know why your parents gave you that particular name and would you consider changing it? If so, to what, and why? I'll go first... Frida - is a nordic name (with german origin) meaning "the loved one", and sometimes "lady". (I got this from my great grandmother, Alfrida) (instead of Frida I could've gotten the name Annie or Ellinor) Erika - a feminine form of Erik (the reason I got it: My dad's name is Nils-Erik,), meaning Iréne - originally a greek name meaning Peace (I got this from my mother) Different sites says different things, but that's what I've been told so please, tell me yours Quote http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p234/celinedion_56/tcc2copy3_zps08f18352.pnghttp://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p234/celinedion_56/tccgallery-1.png

ByuSmurf Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Brenda - It is of Old Norse origin, and its meaning is "sword". Related to the English word "brand", meaning "to mark by burning". Yep... mess with me and you'll get cut and burned!! Renée - It is of French origin, and its meaning is "reborn". This name was given to me to connect me with my French heritage. (It is also the middle name of my youngest daughter and my oldest daughter's name is Angélique... so the heritage thing is passed down to them as well) Quote http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/byusmurf/siggy12-25-05.jpg
Bell Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Mine is Beloslava. I don`t know if it means something but if you translate it literally, it will be something like 'white glory'. There was a Bulgarian princess with this name who lived around 9th century. That`s where it comes from It`s just something that my mother found nice. Quote 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER
Mozinha Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 My first name is Monica and it comes from the Latin word Moneo and it means "Advisor". My middle name is Alexandra and it comes from the Greek word Alexo "To Defend, To Help". I think the second one fits me. The first one not really... but maybe the advisor thing comes with age. CellyDee87 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 So my name is Denelle, I'm told it's French but some sites have it listed as American. It apparently means God is my Judge. I've never heard of anybody else with my name before and because it's so uncommon I'm quite likely to just answer to anything that begins with D really, I've never once been called by my correct name before first time it's mainly Janelle or Danielle that I get. My mum had always wanted to call her first daughter Denelle from when she was a little girl, she had lived in Melbourne and a family had moved next door from France and the little girl Denelle would spend hours on end on her swing and mum just said she was so adorable. I'm Italian and got stuck with a far less glamorous surname; Calafiore meaning either shrub or Cauliflower (I choose shrub). I'm a teacher so needless to say the kids struggle with calling me something, I happy to answer to Miss or excuse me Quote

tonybower Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 My name Tony (or Anthony) is of Latin origin and means 'Worthy of Praise'... As for Bower I am not aware that it has any significance as a surname (in the same way that Bucher or Taylor does) but a bower is a shady, leafy recess or a rustic dwelling/cottage... So I'm a Praiseworthy cottage...! Jacqui Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Jacqueline means "the supplanter." I had no idea what a supplanter was, so I just googled it, and it means someone who illegally takes the place of another person! Ok, I need to have a chat to my parents about this!Frances- (middle name)- means "from France." Which I am not.Matilda- (confirmation name)- St. Matilda...did something...married a guy, had some sons who were kings, and she built churches or something? I only have myself to blame for this one, since I chose it (I was 10! I had no idea what I was doing!) The name means "powerful battler." Quote

VanMerlin Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I am sorry but I have no idea what "Zoe" means, I think it is Greek. ZOE Gender: Feminine Usage: English, Greek, Ancient Greek Other Scripts: Ζωη (Ancient Greek) Pronounced: ZO-ee (English) [key] Means "life" in Greek. This was the name of two early saints, one martyred under emperor Hadrian, the other martyred under Diocletian. The name was also borne by a ruling Byzantine empress. Quote
