Thomas Posted September 6, 2007 at 10:05 PM Posted September 6, 2007 at 10:05 PM Pavarotti doesn't need Celine to sing a tribute to him so that people know who he was and what he was about. He was almost certainly the most famous tenor in the world and as nice as it would be for Celine to say something in the Colosseum, it really isn't up to her to attend an awards show to alert young people to his work. It should be those people who looked up to him, fellow opera singers who worked with him and share in his passions. Celine only sang one song with him and so her tribute will no doubt be smaller, maybe a speech in the Colosseum or a video message in a tribite show or something. Those people who worked with him for many years (like the remaining Three Tenors and the conductors and composers who worked with him throughout his career) could put on a far more fitting tribute than Celine could. That's not to say she shouldn't attend any tribute show they organise, but I don't think the VMA's is the right place to do it. It isn't specifically for him and I really think he deserves his own concert and it would be better for Celine to attend this show than some rubbishy awards show. Quote

Thomas Posted September 6, 2007 at 10:12 PM Posted September 6, 2007 at 10:12 PM (edited) I think Celine's done enough virtual duets with dead people to last a lifetime. How about she sings the song at a proper tribute concert in Italy with a tenor who studied and respected Pavarotti instead? Or one of the other fabulous tenors of the world? I think this would be far better than a carbon copy of All The Way... Edited September 6, 2007 at 10:13 PM by Thomas Quote

I disagree Pavarotti had a great voice but he might not been the greatest tenor. What makes him unique is that his responsible to bring the Opera to the masses he was a clever business man, an expert on marketing and a the only person that was able to reunite the greatest names on pop music to collaborate on Classical music on a concert celebrated each year in a Tiny city in Italy for major charity causes . With both the three Tenors series and the Pavarotti & Friends Series he became an icon to both...those who enjoy opera and those who love pop making a unique audience of open minds that wouldn't open their eyes with disgrace when they heard Pavarotti & Jovanotti saying "Filigio di p..." on the amazing rendition of Mattinata/Serenata Rap...so I think a that a tribute to Il MAestro shouldn't AT ALL!!!! be closed just to Classical music....he was soooooooooo much more than that and his charisma should be reflected by all kinds of music lovers/performers...but I agree...NOT ON THE VMAs Edited September 6, 2007 at 10:32 PM by Loup_garou Quote

If its popular, it can't be good. Pavarotti was one of those who undoubtly had some influence on making classical music a promotion vehicle. I don't know if, without him or the Three Tenors, there would be such a hype about people like Ronaldo Villazon or Anna Netrebko or any other of those "opera stars" nowadays. They even get better record company treatment than a lot of pop musicians. Pavarotti as a tenor had a unique voice, one that you recognize. You could tell it was him when you heared it. That's what talent is about. Quote

Thomas Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:06 PM Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:06 PM There's a time and a place though, that's what you seem to be missing. A rushed tribute at some generic awards show is NOT the kind of thing I would want for Celine. And it's not what I want for Pavarotti too. He deserves better than that. We aren't cold hearted for wanting something more than an exact replica of All The Way at some rubbish awards ceremoney that Pavarotti would never have even attended. Quote
maykonprincess Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:07 PM Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:07 PM it would be a great idea, but mtv will never ever do something like this. I can see this more at the Oscars or Grammy's, where it is more classy. MTV isn't so classy. Pavoritti deserves more respect. Quote

Mozinha Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:15 PM Posted September 6, 2007 at 11:15 PM (edited) But most of the public for VMA's doesn't give a damn about Pavarotti. It's not his place, he was hardly played on MTV. Most of the youngsters don't give a damn about Pavarotti! They don't want to watch the tribute to a Opera Singer in a Awards Ceremony that has nothing to do with Opera. And for MTV what counts it's the viewers and the audiences.
