The song: 'Alone'

I'm not sure how much of this has been discussed, but I figured Alone could be separate thread worthy.

 

Anyway, I'm really interested in hearing Celine's take on the 80's Heart classic. I'm definitely getting an 80's feel for this album between this news and working with David A Stewart.

 

Heart's version is really good, but everyone knows what Celine does when it comes to covers. She's a very rare gem that can take any song and make it her own. All By Myself anyone?

Well , I really wanted to share something about that song. Only if I knew that song. I haven't heard it yet but I have a good feeling it's a good song. i like the title. I can relate to it.

Of course Celine's Version will be better. It reminds me of "TPOL" another 80ths song that was better than the original. But on the other hand, it was posted that Celine's version isn't much different from the original, which bored me at first listen.

shon heard it and he thinks the original version is better - celine is singing it the exact same way and he obviously prefers the original - we should hear it before declaring it's better .

Heart's version is good. But Carrie Underwood totally owns this song. Check her performance at American Idol and the special performance she did with Heart at VH1. It was really good!

 

I hope that Céline will use an arrangement similar to Carrie's. It gives much more energy and power to the song. I can't wait for Céline's version.

all i care about is whether celine sings it in a powerful manner or whether her voice there is raw like in the original version...shon described it as a "copycat" of the original - i just hope she is using her full voice there with that amazing vibrato on the long notes

Yes, Carrie did a wonderful job with this song. I have several bootleg versions from her concerts. Just brilliant.

Ever since I heard this was going to be on the new English release... I have had the tune "Alone" running through my head constantly!! Hearts version is sublime... but I think Céline can vocally tear it up!! I can't wait to hear Céline's version!!

I agree that Celine needs to bring something new to the table if she chooses to cover songs. "Alone" is a superb song and Celine could do it brilliantly but not if she simply copies the original. Look at what she achieved with "I Drove All Night" - wildly different from the orginal and also Cyndi Laupers cover version - and the results were spectacular. Be prepared to take risks Celine.
