I still love the idea of having the ball after the final show. We need to end the trip with a big bang. It is too pricey, though, so give Marisa a chance to cut back the price somehow. Change the venue or do it with no frills like the podium etc.

 

Ceasars has so many conference rooms. There might be a smaller, cheaper one that we could use. I would say that all we need is a simple buffet and an open bar.

Yeah, those are good ideas but some of the categories are really objective and the end results may not be/seem to be fair. For example, i think it will be extremely hard to choose most friendly fan, or the most beautiful. IT IS NOT A PAGEANT PEOPLE and we are not there to parade ourselves (our looks or characters) but rather be a part of the experience of CELINE's last show.

I disagree with the whole competition thing.

We're all there to have fun and enjoy our vacations.

However, we can have a talent show just for fun IF WE HAVE THE PLACE; but nothing for competition.

I'm going to be brutally honest with my opinions on the whole convention thing. The original intent was a great idea, but it's turned into something that's so disappointing and pathetic. I'm sorry, but a price tag of $250 is absurd. Not only international fans, but all will have spent way more money than most of us can afford (airline fare, hotel, food, show ticket(s), and other things). By having a price like $250 most of the international and some domestic visitors are automatically going to be closed out to this event. If Celine is going to be present it should be posted NOW not later.

 

I believe whole-heartedly that there should be a cheaper get-together at either Cheesecake Factory or another restaraunt. Or, just have different groups go off and do what they want. This whole "convention thing" should be called off. Just say it was a nice attempt, but it wasn't doable - at least not this time.

 

I think better planning should have been top priority, not whether or not there could be a fan's only show or get the most expensive conference room with a podeum. Sounds to me like somebody bit off more than they could chew.

 

I think there's a valuable lesson to be learned here.

Well, I can't afford $250... especially because there will be two of us. I can't even afford the trip to begin with, so $500 isn't possible. I do drink, but not $40 worth per night...

 

Sophoan - Cheesecake Factory was the first thing I thought of too (I go to the one near Seattle here often... mmm!)

 

I give Marisa kudos for all of the work she has done. She has spent a lot of time trying to coordinate this, but it looks like it's not going to work out for the majority of us.

 

So, we'll improvise. Let's some of us meet for lunches and dinners leading up to the final night. (Ooh, and how about ALL of you meet up with me before each show at Caesars to help find someone to give the book to? Or just get me a contact now... haha) In the meantime, we'll come up with something to do for the final night. Perhaps we will just have to get a head-count and reserve room for a large party somewhere like The Cheesecake Factory.

Lol, my rent is $1522.96 and that is for a studio apartment!!!!!

 

And on a side note, i just found out that the school is pushed back a week this fall semester which means that finals are Dec 12 thru 19.... And i don't know how i will be able to come to the show on the 13th (assuming after the final), then go back to LA do another final on the 14th....(assuming before another final) and then come back to Vegas on the 14th after the final...

This is beyond being blind... it's being stupid IMO. And Darryl and his mandatory flowers explanation: can ayone be more granny than that?? OMG!! Who cares about friggin' flowers? Is that what people want to pay for? Flowers? OMG! How friggin' more ridiculous can it get??

but, there's no reason to hate on the convention. none of us have planned ANY convention for the 15th - good OR pathetic - so we are in no position to judge. if we can do so much better, then let's do it.

 

anyways, i'm down for cheesecake factory (or wherever!). i went there after the show once for drinks, but i didn't notice how big it was (we were just at the bar). anyone know if we can make reservations there for.. i don't know.. how the hell many of us are there?? a lot, right??

The reason that I am going for the sponsored bar for "unlimited drinks" is as follows.

 

1. We HAVE to meet a food and beverage minimum of $80 per person to book the space that we are looking at. This means that the selection for food that I choose from their options (which is priced per person—or per piece in hors d’euvres) needs to meet at least that amount. No less.

 

+ If the fans plan to have dinner at the event after the show, this is not as difficult to meet.

+ If fans plan to eat before the show, chances are they'll not be hungry for actual food items or an additional sit-down dinner, and more likely would prefer snack items or small deserts and drinks. This is harder to meet the food and beverage minimums.

 

2. Past results show me that alcohol is an important value to a party with those who would be attending.

 

+ In January a majority of the fans that attended our dinner were old enough to have alcoholic drinks.

+ The ones that were not, if I recall correctly, will be old enough to have them by the time the event in December takes place.

+ The drinks were expensive and because we did not watch that closely, we ended up short on our bill.

+ The list that I have consists a lot of the people who attended January's event.

+ This leads me to believe that alcohol is then something that should be incorporated into the event and that would be a great value since we seemed to enjoy it enough last time to have consumed, I think it was $700 worth and still come up short after accounting for how much each person had consumed.

 

3. The sponsored bar ends up giving us the perfect option as I discussed with my event coordinator over at Caesars and as I've reviewed in the packet that she provided.

 

+ The sponsored bar is about $40 per person

+ Rates will soon be changed if we don't act soon. They may go up a dollar or so, from what I last remember hearing.

+ If we decide to go with the sponsored bar we have call brands of alcohol available to us.

+ The sponsored bar includes water, juice, soft drinks and alcohol.

+ Personally, I could easily have 2 full glasses of Coke on my own and I love tequilla. I could have two shots and those soft drinks and I'd probably have spent that $40 right there based on what the prices are in Vegas.

+ That would mean that we have eliminated half the cost of the food and beverage minimum.

+ Not only that but we would have eliminated any chance of putting any financial burden on myself should there be a mistake or miscalculation in how much people have consumed.

 

4. Choosing the sponsored bar gives us room for a selection of desserts rather than having to have food that people may not be hungry for.

 

+ This allows us to choose from fresh fruits and other desserts and make it that midnight snacking event. Like a Strawberries and champagne kind of an evening.

+ If we take the sponsored bar out of the cost, we have to add some sort of food in there and then another beverage package on top. I don't think food is going to be the hot item, I think the drinks and deserts would, assuming everyone ate dinner before the show.

 

 

 

If anyone was planning on dinner at the post-show event, let me know and I'll re-work the situation and costs.

No! The whole purpose of this convention was not to work together asa team. Did you or anyone have a say at what has been decided besides Marisa (and maybe Darryl for the flowers )? No! The purpose was to have an idea that couldn't have been executed because of lack of experience.

Why not criticizing? Isn't it called free speech where you live? Criticizing may seem harsh to you but it's the only way to face the truth, learn from your mistakes and move on. If no one says anything about what's wrong then nobody is doing anybody a favor. Instead of looking at the glass half empty, look at it as half full. (Darryl, you can use those flowers for the "convention" - I won't charge you anything)

anyhow....I think that the idea just expanded in to something so big we can't handle. The prize is HIGH...and without sponsors it's impossible to book a beautiful room and delicious food for so many people at affordable price. It would have been a different situation if we had big sponsors covering up some of the costs but we don't...so we gotta change the plan.

 

So instead of criticizing the current plan, we should start planning other solutions...I like the idea of going to Cheesecake Factory or Slice (though Slice is kinda tiny..). I don't think that the place is that important..it's more about the fans and sharing the "CelineLove".

I'm just being realistic looking at this fiasco from the outside. I was never gonna attend the convention anyway so it's easy for me to see it from a very different point of view than all of you who are still wanting to make it happen. And what I think is rude and insulting is to ask fans to spend $250 for a ballroom "filled" with a podium and flowers and an open bar. The price itself is more expensive than what most people paid for their ticket to see Celine. THAT'S insulting and rude IMO.
