Bell Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I prefer Celine`s French songs. I think they are much better than the English ones. More powerful, romantic and passionate. What do you think? Quote 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER

Dionesque Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Yeah, FRENCH, FRENCH, FRENCH!!!!! :D I like many of her English songs.... but I totally love and adore her French songs!!! OK, now she speaks perfect English... but still I belive she can sing out her heart the best only in French!! That's why I'm dying to see especially her French-speaking shows next year!!! :D Quote Visit me on Facebook 14th & 16th May 2008 - Antwerp Sportpaleis24th & 25th May 2008 - Paris Bercy2nd June 2008 - Amsterdam ArenA12th June 2008 - Berlin Waldbühne18th June 2008 - Köln Arena20th June 2008 - Hamburg Colorline Arena28th June 2008 - Kraków Błonia Park1st July 2008 - Vienna Stadthalle15th, 16th, 19th & 20th August 2008 - Montréal Bell Centre10th, 15th & 16th March 2011 - Las Vegas Caesars Palace ColosseumJ'étais là pour toi, Céline! Thomas Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I would take her French songs in English any day. The lyrics always seem so much deeper and more meaningful than the crap that she sings about on her English CD's. Quote
Cheerfuljane Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I'm English but I WAY prefer her French songs !! I think it has a lot to do with the songwriters as well. And that French is just a more poetic and flowing language ! Quote
Attendais Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 (edited) People... this is obvious that I rather FRENCH songs!! Unfortunately, songs in english sound very ordinarily because this language is just used by everyone. English is commercial and narrow. Definetly this is NOT a language for poesy... FRENCH is the king. I love this... it sounds very very beautiful and is extremely rare. Celine songs in French are much more ambitious than in English... so I'm afraid of the upcoming english album.... Shaun Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I would love for her to take as much interest in her English recordings as she does in French. She seems to get very involved in every aspect of her French work and this makes it very interesting and the results great. Sometimes with her English work it's like someone has said to her "Here Celine sing this!" and that's about all the work that goes into it. That's not to say I don't love her English work too but for me personally, I prefer the French material. Mozinha Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 (edited) I wouldn't mind if she decided to stop singing in english. This doesn't mean I don't like her english music. I love it. I Her english music is very good. But her french music is BRILLIANT! I'm still waiting for an english album matching the quality of her brilliant french music. Alex_Incognito Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I think it's obvious...FRENCH. If you don't speak French, it's understandable why one would say English. But her French songs are much more powerful and aren't meant to reach a certain audience. Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990

changepas39 Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Her french songs are very powerful and deep. nature boy Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I do love both but I'm gonna go for the English ones only because I can understand tham lol! People keep talking about how deep her French recordings are, I can't see that bercasue I don't speak a word of French. When I hear the French music I love the Celines voice, her passion, melodies and sound of the music and I do wish I could understand what Celine is singing about. Her earlier French videos are a lot better than most of her English stuff though. Although the last few videos we've had have really just been Celine singing the song, I've come to expect more and that has not been delivered. As for the English music I get invlolved with those more because I can relate more. Quote http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/3239/kylieima5lp9.jpg How do you describe a feeling??
leenylover Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I absolutley adore Celine's french music, the styles, the melodies and the passion in her voice, but I have to say I get more enjoyment from listening to her English work. For me, it's about being able to interact. Due to my lack of undertanding of the language I can only listen to Celine's french repertoire, though I must add, I love doing so! However, with Celine's English work, I can sing along, and understand each word and phrase, I can picture the story that is being relayed and put myself in the place of the character in the song. Although I may know the general underlying message in her French songs, it's not as easy to get that involved. As for the comments regarding the simplistic nature of Celine's English songs, I don't see this as being an entirely bad thing. Artists such as Elvis, Madonna, The Beatles and many more have established huge careers on simple, popular music. Songs that were recorded decades ago, are still as popular today. The lyrics are not profound or poetic, but it doesn't make the songs less enjoyable, there is always a time and place for them. I also do not see Celine's entire English repertoire as being unchallenging and unpoetic, there are some beautifully poetic songs in Celine's English albums. Songs such as Live, Miles to Go, Prayer, Water from the moon for example. And the pure unadulterated passion in songs like Us, Seduces me, and To love you more to name just a few. Would you really want to be without these amazing songs? We also have Celine's English songs to thank for her global success. There would be many audiences that would not have had the chance to enjoy her music had she not decided to also record in English, that would be a real shame. Love Lisaxxx Quote My List of Celine Dion stuff, PM me to trade!

IL_DINO Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Although I live in the French part of Switzerland I don't speak good French or English (mother tangue is german and a little bit spain, russian and arabic) - so I am neutrally in this question: I don't very obsessioned about the new album, but her "bad" (not really bad, of course) French albums are much better than her English ones. In english she sings a lot of real "diamonds" but never this kind of autentic and reliable full albums. But this question is exateliy the special quality of Celine Dion! It's this widts between French and World-Music... That's one of the reasons because she is one of the most selling singers in the world. I think this is not only a question about languages - it a question about style and, I am not finding the right word.... maybe it's "deepness" or "character" ?! I simply love her. Quote
WendyB Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 My understanding of French is weak, but I love her French songs despite this. The English Céline songs that I prefer are never the ones that are released as singles - not "commercial" enough I guess Quote
Elaine Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 For me it's hard to tell because the English songs have a special meaning for me.. They were the first ones I heard, the ones who helped me a lot when I was only an English student, so I just love her English songs...But I also hold a special care for her French songs, specially because they're so deep that can make me cry even when I don't understand what she's saying... I can't really tell what my preference is. For me both have their advantages! Quote http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/1352/opo3.jpg

firebird Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Right now she came back with another amazing French album, her best since SISDA, maybe even since D'Eux. Some years ago with her journey into shallow French variety I would have said it's quite a tie between French and English, but her new album throws another perspective on it. It says, she's still got it going en francais. Maybe one day she'll come with an English album that is as good as D'Eux or SISDA, as complete musically and lyrically. Quote
