Deffinitel the French version for me!

Maybe because this one was first, maybe because of French language which I love, maybe because it reminds me so much of my first trip to Paris... I don't know...

It touches me much more than the English version, although the later is really great too, much better than English version for "PQTME", IMO. :)

Why has Javito been silenced ???

Je Sais Pas ... IDK is 'almost' equally good, but JSP just has that haunting vibe IMO

I voted for JSP.

JSP really moves me. I can feel the passion stirring through out the entire song.

IDK actually has some of my favorite lyrics of any song, but I still voted for JSP:

I know what I want, I know what I need

But there's just one thing I must believe

Deep in the night by a dying flame

You will be there when I call your name

I like both of them, but I prefer je sais pas

although celine tends to sing with more emotion on her native language, she gave her all in I Don't Know. Most of her songs on Live a Paris are a lot better than the studio versions found on D'eux. I voted for I Don't Know. it's a masterpiece and could've been bigger than Je sais pas.

Generally speaking, I prefer the French versions of her songs but in this case I voted for 'I Don't Know' because it's just...WONDERFUL! Probably one of Celine's BEST English songs!

hmm it seems that im the only one who dont like both of them  .I got a wrong impression for them from the very first time

Je Sais Pas by far. I don't think it's a good idea for her to resing her french song in english. The emotion she sings with in french is nowhere near the one she's singing with in english.

You know even though I figured "Je sais pas" would get the most votes I didn't expect as many people to vote for the other choice, "I Don't Know," as they did. I guess it just goes to show the different tastes people have!

Keep those votes coming in. I'll mention why I'm asking this question later this week!

Take care,

Joe

erm........ does anyone know why this question was asked then?it was never mentioned on this thread back in april '07,and my memory is not that good

BTW just thought id mention that i prefer IDK rather than JSP,and i didnt think the lyrics are that different. The translation on the first page is a litteral word for word so looks different(but thanks for them though :D ).

CHOCOLATE is the answer....I don't give a damn what the question was!

I Don't Know BY FAR. Her vocals on that song are out of this world. I listen to the French version and I am very underwhelmed. Her voice just isn't as powerful and quite frankly I don't feel much emotion as I do when I hear the English version. It's incredible, and it's one of my favorite Celine songs!

Generally, I prefer the French versions of the songs she recorded both in English and French, so I voted for Je sais pas.

I'd have to say that I enjoy them both equally. They are vocally different, but there are great things she does in both songs...the soaring highs of the English version, and the raw grit she has in parts of the French version. Lyrically, I think they're both quite good and are much more similar than other French-English translations. In this case, it's really only my particular mood that decides which one to listen to, because I can't really say that I prefer either one over the other.

Céline sounds more dramatic in French on this song. Also: I love to sing along more with the French lyric. Maybe it's also got to do with knowing the French version first. I also prefer the music of the French Version. The English versions sounds a bit overproduced with the added sounds. This songs asks for a rough approach in my opinion as it's so dark and emotional.

Je Sais pas is the only one, and the one who came first, anyway.

The english version could have been good, because it's a very good song, but it sounds like Celine is really screaming in this version, whereas in the french song, it's more emotional. In french we say "nuancé".

And the adding of percussions as an intro is just ridiculous, they shouldn't have put this sound all alone!

Hey there,

Wow, I was quite surprised to see this thread come back alive! I guess it goes to show ya that things truly never "die" on The Forum. LOL

Anyway, to answer your question back when I asked this question I was putting together a second packet of ideas to submit to Franco Dragone, Celine, and Rene for things to add to A New Day.... Needless to say for a number of reasons I never got the chance to before the show ended. I wanted to know which version fans prefered so I would have a better angle to go at when approaching The Vegas Trio, as I call them.

Anyway, here is my rough sketch followed by the final graphic created by The Forum's own designer, Clari.

Enjoy!

I Don't Know: It's easier to enjoy a song that I understand.
